Build Overview

This is a guide for Lightning Spear + Wind Serpent's Fury Deadeye. The strongest build in patch 0.2 Dawn of the Hunt bolstering top tier clear speed and incredible single target burst damage. It is THE aspirational build for this patch and I highly recommend it.

Despite the great damage and speed, the build does not provide a lot of defense. You can scale enough Energy Shield to be safe while mapping in Hardcore, but in this guide I will be focusing on a setup best suited for the Softcore league. The build handles all map mods and all boss encounters, and the only difficult content for it is a high difficulty Simulacrum.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Stellar Clear Speed
  • High Single Target Damage
  • All map mods and all boss viable
  • Limited Defense
  • Trouble doing high tier Simulacrum

Gearing Priorities

Above you can see the ideal gear you want to aim for. Your first priority while gearing is to cap your elemental resistances, get 40%+ chaos resistance and meet all of your attribute requirements. After that you want to keep getting more Life, Evasion and Energy shield and start improving the damage rolls on your gear. Your gloves and rings provide the majority of base damage for your build, so highly prioritize those added damage modifiers. You can of course have rarity and life on prefixes as well, but the added damage modifiers are your first priority. The last priority are the luxury modifiers, such as crit on helmet and gloves as well as Rarity on most pieces of your gear. The goal is to reach 100-150 rarity, since that is the sweet spot for maximum benefit vs efficiency.

Weapon

You want Tangletongue with as much critical chance as you can get. Ideally shoot for 23%+ corrupted one, but get whatever is the highest crit you can, at the beginning.

Off-Hand

Sacred Flame is the best off-hand you can use. It provides Purity of Fire which has no spirit reservation and allows you to have supports such as Clarity and Cannibalism socketed in it, without the additional spirit cost. The only roll that matters on it, is the Fire Damage roll - get as much as you can.

Before Sacred Flame, you can use an Omen Sceptre with attributes and increased spirit.

Helmet

Use an Energy Shield helmet to maximize the benefit of Subterfuge Mask passive. Helmet is a good slot for a lot of rarity and can come with extra crit chance if you need it.

Gloves

Get as much added damage as you can. Critical Damage Bonus suffix is also a great way to boost your damage. Ideal suffixes will have the Crit Damage Bonus, Chaos Res and Rarity, but get whatever useful stats you can.

Boots

35% movement speed is the priority, after that you want as much defensive stats as you can while also trying to get a rarity suffix.

Body Armour

Falconer's Jacket is the best base, due to implicit movement speed bonus. Focus on as much evasion and energy shield as you can as the main priority - then get as much life and resistances with it as you can.

Rings

Both rings should have as much flat added damage as possible. Breach rings are the best base, but any base with a useful resistance implicit modifier is good. Try to get one ring with triple attributes, to maximize the benefits of catalysts which increase attribute modifiers. The other ring should have resistances and rarity on suffixes.

Amulet

Beacon of Azis is a simple solution to all enemy resistances. We deal mixed damage, therefore we need something to deal with all resistances.

Anoint Stormcharged as soon as you can. You can also use the anoint to temporarily fix your attribute requirements.

Belt

Ingenuity it's one of the only ways we can increase our damage and rarity through the belt slot. Get as high rolls on it as you can. Make sure to get 3 charm slots with it as well.

Mana Flask

In order to get the maximum benefit from the Ambrosia support, you need at least 68% increased mana flask charges on your suffix.

Jewels

Get either Sapphire or Emerald jewels, with as many beneficial modifiers as you can. Corruption enchants can also provide additional attributes and resistances that can help you meet your requirements.

  • Purity of Fire - comes from Sacred Flame - put these supports into Combat Frenzy if you're using another Sceptre
  • Spear Stab - gains sockets as you level. Pinpoint Critical can be replaced after you cap your crit chance.
  • Lightning Spear - you can replace one of the damage supports for Fork if you have enough damage. Only use Deliberation if you're riding a Rhoa Mount.
  • Wind Serpent's Fury - you can replace one of the supports for Twofold which has less consistency , but higher burst potential.
  • Infernal Cry - used only for bossing - Second Wind helps when you need to cast Wind Serpent's Fury - twice to kill the boss.
  • Barrage great for clear - works especially well if you're riding a Rhoa.
  • Rhoa Mount - if you have low evasion/resistances you should wait with using it, otherwise you'll get knocked off the mount too often. You can relog to remove heavy stun.
  • Combat Frenzy - charge generation while mapping. Use Profusion here while clearing.
  • Cast on Critical - charge generation while bossing. Use Profusion here while bossing. You will likely need to get a lower level gem, due to high intelligence requirement.
  • Ghost Dance - you can use the supports from Purity of Fire in this skill before you get your Sacred Flame
  • Herald of Thunder source of Electrocute while clearing for Combat Frenzy. You need it to deal enough damage to Electrocute consistently. Play around with support gems to make sure you're Electrocuting monsters in maps.

Thrilling Chase is one of the main reasons for playing Deadeye with this build. It doubles the bonuses that Lightning Spear and Wind Serpent's Fury get from frenzy charges, effectively doubling your damage and clearing coverage.

Avidity allows us to stack Frenzy Charges faster on bosses as well as greatly improve the consistency of our Frenzy Charge uptime while clearing.

We are prioritizing critical hit chance and critical damage bonus on tree, to scale our damage. We don't need any extra attack speed because we rely on burst damage with Volt and Wind Serpent's Fury. We are also picking up as much movement speed as possible and scaling Evasion + Energy shield for defense.

How it Plays

Single Target

  1. Spear Stab the target, proccing Sniper's Mark from Cast on Critical and generating charges, until you reach the maximum of 7 Frenzy Charges. Avidity can grant you maximum frenzies and you can also arrive to the boss with Frenzy Charges already prepared.
  2. Infernal Cry to buff your next melee ability.
  3. Position yourself so that the boss is between you and a wall or another boss.
  4. Attack with Wind Serpent's Fury (you will sometimes immediately generate 7 Frenzy Charges and be able to attack with it again right away).

Clearing

  1. Move until you have 10, 20 or 30 Volt charges.
  2. Cast Barrage if it's off cooldown (you can skip it if you have Frenzy Charges up, but whenever you need more damage or more hits to generate Frenzy Charges, it is good to use it).
  3. Attack with Lightning Spear

How it Works

Important Tips

  1. Try to get your critical hit chance as close to 100% as soon as possible, otherwise your damage will be inconsistent because sometimes you'll be doing regular hits and sometimes you will deal double crits with massive critical damage bonus multiplying it.
  2. You can exit to character selection screen and log back in after getting knocked off Rhoa Mount, to remove the heavy stun and safely escape dangerous situations.
  3. Knocking Bosses into the walls or other bosses deals much more damage with Wind Serpent's Fury

Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great time playing this build. Chers!
