Build Overview

Update for Recoup Setup in 0.4 - video!

Disciple of Varashta variation of this build

Useful links

Upsides and donwsides of Chrono over Disciple of Varashta

When comparing normal setups (not recoup)

  • Much better in campaign and early game, because non-Djinn Varashta passives are nearly useless in campaign
  • More AoE/Cast Speed
  • Easier Mana sustain on single target with Temporal Rift
  • Recoup Setup is good and slightly better (and more expensive) alternative to Varashta setup, having infinite Mana and constant ES recovery is very strong
  • Has lower Damage in early-mid mapping, simply because Varashta can use Staff with Effigy of Cruelty
  • Optimal route would be:
    - Start with Chrono
    - Do maps until like level 80-85 when you should get decent gear to beat 4th Trial of Sekhemas
    - Then change to Disciple of Varashta
    - Then either max out Varashta setup, or gather pieces of gear required for Recoup Chrono

POB:

https://pobb.in/u/paintmaster%232396/XecqD8fEqtEY

  • CoA Comet/Frostbolt setup before i moved to Recoup. Costed me between 1 and 2 Divs, considering i crafted almost all my gear, which was much cheaper than buying.

https://pobb.in/u/paintmaster%232396/wvbnZ6zR-FuL

  • CoC Comet/Frostbolt with Maligaro's Virtuosity, same gear i had CoA Comet aside of gloves, build get ~95% Crit Chance on Frostbolt and 100% Crit Chance on Comet

https://pobb.in/u/paintmaster%232396/S3SHE-B3FRFA

  • PoB of my current Recoup Chrono, costed me around 15 Div (at the time) considering that i bought Wand, Focus, Ring and Boots with 4-5 Mods to add Desecreated Mod, which saved me a ton!
  • I recommend to do Recoup after you get Boots and Focus with ~300+ ES or more, build really need as much ES to lower risk of oneshots.

How to get Level 21 Skills in cheapest way possible:

  • Use any level Uncut Skill Gem to get Skill you want.
  • Quality it, use Perfect Jeweller's Orb if needed.
  • Vaal Orb, repeat until you hit +1 Level from Corruption.
*Use Omen of Corruption if you doing this for Skills with 5 Sockets.
  • Socket that Skill in Skill Menu, then use Uncut Level 20 Gem, which will give you Level 21 Skill.

Quest Rewards

  • Venom Draught: Stun Threshold.
  • Halls of the Dead: 5% Fire/Lightning/Cold Resists.
  • Qimah: 15% ES, 3% Movespeed, +5% All Ele Resists

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Very flexible build, have many ways to play early
  • Clearing with Cast on Elemental Ailment and Comet is crazy
  • At level 90 with decent gear you should have 5-8k ES
  • Can farm Pinnacle Bosses at max difficulty, especially Recoup Setup that can just facetank them
  • True offmeta!
  • Not fastest build you can play if you only care about clearing speed
  • There's builds that have higher DPS, if you looking for something that can do highest DPS possible
  • If you play regular setup with Cast on Elemental Ailment and Comet with decent gear, it might cause fps drops because how many Comets you trigger :D
  • Only downside of Recoup - can't do Maps with Less Recovery Mod

Build Variants

DO NOT TRY TO BUILD THIS WITH LOW BUDGET, IT REQUIRE TENS OF DIVINES!

About Recoup:

  • First of all, in Character Sheet you MUST have ~117%+ Mana Recoup, and ~65%+ Life Recoup (aside of 20% Phys/Elemental Recoup)
  • Build REQUIRE Wand + Focus, because Focus and Boots are main sources of ES in this build due to Sacrosanctum having low ES
  • Build will not work if you decide that you don't need some gear or some corrupts, so read equipment section to not miss anything!
  • Build recoup more Mana than it spend, build recoup more Damage than it take, only danger is a lot of hits in short time period or oneshot
  • Build can't do Less Recovery Rate mod on Maps, especially in endgame when it has large values!

Updated to 0.4 Crafting Guide - has examples of low budget crafting that have good chance save you a lot of currency, plus example with buying cheap rares with empty prefix/suffix.

GEAR

Wand:

  • +4-5 Cold Spell Skill levels
  • Crit Chance for Spells
  • Cast Speed
  • Any good prefixes like Extra Damage, Spell or Cold Damage

Focus:

  • +2 to All Spell Levels
  • Crit Chance for Spells
  • 1 good Resist
  • Preferably ES prefixes with Spell or Cold Damage

Staff (Second Weapon Set)

  • Chiming Staff with level 19+ Sigil of Power, it only need +# to All Spells which you can get from Perfect Essence of Sorcery. So just buy any Chiming Staff and throw essence at it.

Amulet:

  • Must have Mana Recoup, atleast ~20%
  • +2-3 Levels
  • 1 good Resist Mod
  • Any good Prefixes, make sure it has no Increased Armor, not critical but less armor we have - better.
  • Spirit not needed, unless you willing to spend 3 points to get Whispers of Doom to use Blasphemy with Temporal Chains
  • Infused Flesh for Instil

Rare Ring:

  • Should be bought as last item to cap all Resists after you got Amulet and Focus

Boots:

  • Triple Resists
  • Movespeed
  • Preferably high Energy Shield

Helmet:

  • Scold's Bridle with 95%+ Manacost taken as Physical roll, closer to 100% - better
  • If you get corrupted one with over 100% that would be even better
  • At high budget you can corrupt it 2 times to possibly get above 100% and 2 Sockets.

Body Armor:

  • Sacrosanctum MUST HAVE MANA RECOUP CORRUPT ENCHANT
  • Must have 2 sockets and good roll of normal Life Recoup Mod
  • Atleast 21 Spirit to fit 30 Spirit Skill
  • At very high budget you can possibly get both Life and Mana Recoup Corrupt Enchants if you use Architect's Orb to corrupt it second time.
*Saw single Sacrosanctum with both Life and Mana Recoup Corrupts on trade so far.

Gloves:

  • Maligaro's Virtuosity with higher Crit Chance roll is good to have
  • Having extra socket helps a lot

Belt:

  • Midnight Braid corrupted with as close to 61% Mana Recoup as possible and ideally good Resist roll
  • At high budget you can Corrupt it second time using Architect's Orb which can possibly add Resists as Corrupted Enchant which will be super useful!

Ring:

  • Snakepit with good corrupt, like %Damage, %Chaos Res, %All Ele Res.
I recommend buying uncorrupted Snakepit rings with good roll, add Caster quality and Vaal with Omen, as long as it's worth doing with current prices

Flasks:

  • Blood of the Warrior to get extra Life Recoup, look for good roll
  • Lavianga's Spirits for permanent extra Mana Regen

Charms:

  • Nascent Hope for Freeze removal
  • Forsaken Bangle for Chaos Recoup
  • Sanguis Heroum for Bleed Removal

Jewels:

  • Controlled Metamorphosis with Medium-Small radius, good roll isn't expensive
  • Heart of the Well with Speed of Recoup Effects plus anything useful like %Extra Damage, %Crit Chance, %Life Recoup, or few other mods.
  • Rare Jewel as alternative to Heart of the Well with 3% Recoup, Spell/Elemental/Cold Damage, %ES or Crit Chance passives.
  • Megalomaniac as another alternative to Heart of the Well with one of these passives: Heart Tissue, Aspiring Genius, Evocational Practitioner, Deadly Force, Energise, Endless Blizzard.
  • From Nothing (Necromantic Talisman) allow to take:
    - Adverse Growth
    - Regenerative Flesh
    - Glazed Flesh
  • Heroic Tragedy in socket next to Stormcharged might be very strong if you get good jewel, which is hard to do so because you have to buy different seeds and check it manually until you find one.
Heroic Tragedy is good because one of passives it can roll is Oaken Form that grant 10% Life Recoup which is huge amount. And because you have From Nothing(Necromantic Talisman), you can allocated 3 Notables that are in radius of Heroic Tragedy without connecting to tree.
If you manage to find Heroic Tragedy that has 2 Oaken Form Passives on those 3 Passives, it's easily best on slot Jewel, allowing to change Instil on Amulet and drop small 3% Recoup Passives.

Notes:

  • For bosses swap Spell Cascade do Living Bomb on CoC Comet.
  • For clearing you can keep Living Bomb, but it should be better to swap it for Spell Cascade to get more comet. Or mix supports to find combo you like.
  • Arctic Armour for some defense.
  • Or Overwhelming Presence to trigger Comets more often as Energy gain depends on Ailment Threshold. Use level 10 that require 65 Strength, which you get because you need 67 for Sacrosanctum.

Other stuff:

  • If you get Amulet with enough Spirit, can use Blasphemy with Temporal Chains, but it require Whispers of Doom.
  • In theory you can get enough Spirit from Amulet and Sacrosanctum implicit to use only Cast on Critical and Archmage and since build has infinite mana, it's just free damage from Archmage.
  • Wouldn't recommend using Mana Tempest, sure it give damage, but it eats mana really fast, i rather have infinite mana and just cast nonstop.
  • Flame Wall add a bit of damage to Frostbolt, can use or not, whatever.

Passive Tree

set 2:

Controlled Metamorphosis allocation:

  • Stormbreaker and Sudden Escalation with weapon set 1 points.
  • Soul Bloom, Arcane Blossom and Roil with normal points.

From Nothing (Necromantic Talisman) to allocate:

  • Adverse Growth
  • Glazed Flesh
  • Regenerative Flesh

Ascendancy:

  • Must have: The Rapid River, Quicksand Hourglass and Now and Again
  • For last 2 points any of 3 reachable passives:
  • Temporal Rift might be rarely useful when you get super big hit
  • Apex of the Moment might be best option for mapping to slightly slow mobs around
  • Inevitable Agony if you need even more damage for bosses for some reason

How it Plays

Normal Setups:

Clearing:

  • Early its Frost Bomb + Ice Nova
  • Later its Frostbolt, with Frost Wall if needed

Single Target:

  • Sigil of Power, then Elemental Weakness
  • If still using Eye of Winter then use Flame Wall, Orb of Storms and Frost Bomb before it
  • Reset mana with Temporal Rift every ~4 seconds

Recoup:

Clearing:

  • Frostbolt with Frost Wall

Single Target:

  • Sigil of Power then Elemental Weakness
  • Then Frost Bomb and spam Frostbolt and use Frost Wall but not all charges at once
