Overview

A key ingredient to pretty much every survival game is figuring out how to manage your food production. After all, without a stable supply, you aren't going to make it very far.

In Palworld, it's no different. So in order to get a good start, here are some quick tips to help establish, automate, and maintain a reliable food supply. Let's dive in.

This guide was written with the help of ItalianSpartacus. Be sure to check our their channel out for more Palworld content.

Upgrade Your Food Supply

Nutrition plays a main role in ensuring that your Pals are happy and healthy. Early on when you first begin, your primary source of food will likely be Red Berries.

They are easily accessible within a few steps from the starting area, and they can be planted and harvested shortly into your playthrough.

However, once you progress a bit further, you'll want to upgrade to a more nutritious supply. And given where you started, Baked Berries are the obvious transition.

They have a higher Nutrition value than their raw form, and can be made easily with just the Red Berries.

Later down the road, the Salad becomes the ideal choice for a significant Nutrition boost (84 compared to 21). With a more effective food, you won't have to worry about the quantity nearly as much.

Important Note

Speaking of quantity, make sure you're carefully managing your supply in order to avoid letting the food spoil. The Cooler Box (level 13) is a necessity once it's available, so be sure to keep a specific Pal assigned to it at all times.

Balance Your Production Ratios

Try and set up your farms to match your needs as closely as you can. By balancing your production ratios, you'll avoid the awkward issue of having too much of one ingredient.

Of course, this is by no means mandatory. Perhaps you're looking to cook a variety of food (in which the ingredients will greatly vary), so in that case, do whatever works best for you.

Evolve & Downsize Your Farms

When building your base, it's completely normal to make adjustments as you progress. Your needs will change over time, so don't be afraid to evolve or downsize your farms when necessary.

This goes beyond wasting space, it also wastes time. After all, the more fields you have, the more time gets split between them, instead of your Pals prioritizing what matters most.

Pay Attention to Food Consumption

One final thing to keep an eye on is the different food consumption rates of your Pals. This is what determines how much they eat, and if you aren't aware of it, you may run out and risk making your Pals Depressed, Sick, or Injured.

In the beginning, this is far less impactful, as most of the really early game Pals don't eat that much. However, once you start catching the medium and large size Pals that quickly changes.

If your food production can't keep up, consider sticking with the smaller Pals in the meantime. Then once you reach a stable point with higher quality food, feel free to bring out the big guns!
