Overview

This Monster Hunter Wilds guide compiles useful tips and tricks for beginners and seasoned hunters alike, covering all systems and mechanics needed to engage with the game fully.

If you’re new to the Monster Hunter series, you may want to have a look at our guide, What Is Monster Hunter Wilds?, if you haven’t done so already.

Monster Hunter Wilds features many dynamic systems and mechanics, and it can be overwhelming to keep track of all of them at once. This tips & tricks list will help all players keep track of ways to enhance their hunts and make the most out of the game.

Between Hunts

Manage items in your box

Gather or buy any items that you need to take on hunts, like Potion, Honey, Flash Pod, Shock Trap, etc.

Take advantage of special meals

Sometimes, you will be offered a special meal by other characters that will provide stronger buffs than usual. These are time-limited, so don’t hesitate to pick them up!

Scout available monsters on the map

Different monsters spawn at different weather timings, and can yield different special rewards.

Be on the lookout for monsters whose investigations reward special drops, like plates and gems.

Check for special dialogue

You should talk to NPCs with a yellow exclamation mark over their head, as they will give you new side-quests or important information.

Preparing For a Specific Quest

Create an item/radial menu loadout

Item loadouts will save you a lot of time when preparing for a quest, so make sure to have one –or many- loadouts readied. That way, you can simply head over to your tent and restock the items you need.

Don't miss our Radial Dial guide to make your item selections as efficient as possible.

Counter the monster with your elemental resistances

Each Build's armor pieces offers different elemental resistances, so you want to maximize the corresponding elemental resistance equal to the monster’s affinity. The same goes for status resistances, so adjust your armor set accordingly to make hunts go smoother!

Eat a meal

Keep track of each ingredient’s effect. Some boost elemental resistances or offer specific buffs that may aid with the hunt. Keep track of the buff duration and eat another meal before it runs out!

Prepare your weapon combos

There’s a Practice Range within the Base Camp, in which you can test weapon moves and practice your combos. Whether you want to pick up a new weapon or master your favorite one, the Practice Range is an invaluable tool.

During Hunts

Use Quest Supplies

After starting a quest, Supplies (including First-aid Med and Ration among other useful items) will be sent to your Seikret’s pouch, which you can open by pressing (Dial Pad Left) while mounted. After some time, additional supplies will be sent again.

Sharpen your weapon during the hunt

You should sharpen your weapon with your Whetstone when it hits yellow sharpness. Make a habit of sharpening when the monster flees to a different area. You can sharp while on the Seikret, too.

Watch out for wounds

Scratches or cuts on a monster’s body indicates that a wound is about to appear. Keep hitting that spot to guarantee that the wound will open! Remember that active wounds allow Hunters to perform powerful Focus Strikes.

Use the Seikret recovery

Right after a monster knocks you down, press (Dial Pad Up) to call on your Seikret mount and quickly stand up, heal, or reposition.

Carve monster tails

Some monster body parts (like tails) can be severed and carved after. Don’t forget to carve before moving to a different area!

Use environmental traps

Most zones have terrain features you can use to knock down monsters, such as vine traps, falling boulders, or even wildlife like Paratoads or Sleeptoads. These are usually marked on the map, so keep an eye out for them!

Gather materials and wildlife buffs

Gathering items and wildlife is easier than ever. Pressing (â—¯) while aiming the Slinger (L2) will allow you to gather from a distance, even when mounted on the Seikret. Some wildlife, like the Vigormantle Bug or the Wiggly Litchi, grant strong temporary buffs.
