Monster Hunter Wilds Focus Mode Explained
What is Focus Mode?
Focus Mode is a new mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. It allows Hunters to carefully aim their weapon attacks and guards.
While in Focus Mode, Hunters can unleash devastating Focus Strikes when hitting wounds or weak points.
While using Focus Mode, the Hunter will automatically face the same direction as the camera, and attacks and guards will be aimed in said direction, allowing swift and precise aiming.

How to Use Focus Mode
Focus Mode can be entered by holding (L2); releasing the button will exit it. Focus Mode can be used infinitely and does not consume any resources.
There is a setting that sets Focus Mode to a toggle in the game’s settings, meaning pressing (L2) once will enter it until it is pressed again.
To find it, go:
- Options → Controls → Controller Aim/Focus Mode Controls → Press (L2) to Toggle Mode
Focus Strikes
Monster wounds appear as the hunt progresses and when hitting weak spots, and will be highlighted with a red glow while in Focus Mode.
Hunters can unleash special Focus Strikes (L2 + R1) while in Focus Modes. Hitting a wound with a Focus Strike will destroy it, dealing massive damage and stunning the monster, and occasionally granting monster materials.
Each weapon has its own special Focus Strike, so make sure to view weapon guides to know everything about them!
Advanced Usage
Focus Mode can be used to change the direction of an attack, even while the animation is happening.
This makes aiming and landing slow attacks such as the Greatsword’s True Charged Slash easier, as Hunters can move the camera to redirect the attack up until the very end of its animation.
Hunters who make full use of Focus Mode will find themselves having an easier time landing their attacks.
