Wounds are a new mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. During hunts, wounds will appear on the monster’s body, especially around weak spots and the parts that have been recently hit. In this beginner guide, we'll cover the basics of everything you need to know.

How Wounds Work

Monsters take more damage from active wounds, and hitting wounds with a Focus Strike (L2 + R1) will trigger a powerful attack from your Weapons.

Wounds mainly appear on the body parts that have been repeatedly hit, and more often in their usual weak spots. They can also appear at random.

Active wounds are shown as scratches or cuts in the monster’s body, and while in Focus Mode (L2), they’re highlighted in red. When hitting wounds, you will see orange damage numbers with a square around them, showcasing the elevated damage procs.

Certain monster attacks will also make temporary wounds appear. Perform a Focus Strike during these openings to deal immense damage and knock the monster down.

If a wound is damaged enough, it will be destroyed, damaging the monster and causing it to flinch. After some time, wounds can appear in the same spot.

While mounting a monster, your attacks will cause wounds to appear, too. It is possible to cause wounds on up to two different body parts before performing a mount finisher

Certain monsters also have special mechanics around wounds. For example, Doshaguma will reopen all its previous wounds while it’s low on health. Watch out for specific interactions and use wounds to help in your hunts!
