Monster Hunter Wilds: Quest Counter Guide
Overview
Although you'll initiate some monster fights in the open field, you'll usually start them through Alma, the Quest Counter of Monster Hunter Wilds (MHW).
Whether you want to join a random party, help out an SOS hunter in need, or quest with friends, you have a ton of choices.
In this beginner guide, we'll cover how the Quest Counter works since it can be a bit daunting at first to understand all its options.
Where to Find Alma
With MHW being the first truly open world game of the series, Alma is available to you at nearly all times - from base camp, riding alongside you, or from the training area.
This makes it easy to multi-task in between hunts, such as while you're crafting gear, harvesting materials, or practicing combos.

Quest Counter Options
Quest Menu
The Quest Menu is where you can either Post a quest for others to join or Join a quest that another hunter has posted.

It will be the option you use most often when interacting with Alma, so you're going to want to get used to it.

Settings
There are a ton of ways to play Monster Hunter and these Settings allow you to really customize your experience.
Here's where you can set a passcode, focus on partying with beginners or veterans, choose whether to allow cross-platform play, and much more.
Optional Quests
Here's where you can choose which hunt to post along with details like Rewards and Conditions.

Upon selecting one, you'll have to wait until other hunters join your party, but it shouldn't take too long depending on the population of your lobby.
Lobby Member Quests
If you prefer to join a quest that's already posted, Lobby Member Quests will show the number of players already in each party and when the quest started. There's upsides and downsides to this as you can sometimes join a doomed hunt or one that is already doing well and almost done.
Link Member Quests
Link Members are your party members, here's where you can find their specific quests.
SOS Flare Quests
If you want to be a hero for a hunter in need, you can join battles where an SOS has been called.

Palico Deployment Status
For hunters who want to really test their skills, Palico Deployment Status allows you to command your Palico stay at home so you can be truly solo.
Change Lobby Menu
When you join a game of Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll be put into a lobby with up to 100 players unless you adjust your Settings.

Recommended Lobby
If you don't care about your settings and just want to join a lobby ASAP, choose this.
Lobby Search
Within Lobby Search you can find three options: Conditional Search, Hunter Friend Search, and Lobby ID Search.
- Conditional Search allows you to filter your Lobby choice by Playstyle, Skill Level, Recommended Lobby, or Language
- Hunter Friend Search lets you join your Friends in lobbies, if available.
- Lobby ID Search lets you enter a specific ID to join, such as if you're joining someone who isn't your friend yet or for other reasons.
Private Lobby
If you want to create a Lobby that requires a joiner to search through the Lobby ID Search to find it, this is where you can host.
Online Single Player
Last but not least, this choice allows you to simulate an offline experience while staying online. The beta playtest required you to stay online but the full release should have an offline mode.
