Overview

Note that this guide is based on the MHW beta playtests, there may be updates upon release so be sure to check back.

Beautiful open-world maps are waiting to be explored in Monster Hunter Wilds. These maps will feature various biomes coupled with a robust weather system, passage ways, and levels of verticality.

The Seikret mount, new to Monster Hunter Wilds, is your trusted way to navigate these maps and in this guide, we'll cover everything you need to know about them.

This guide is written by JourneyFar.

What is a Seikret?

Sporting luscious green feathers and wings, these rideable creatures are a small type of Bird Wyvern. They are mainly bipedal but are able to glide through the winds with their wings. They also have a keen sense of smell that can track a monster while on the hunt.

The people in the Forbidden Lands have tamed them for various uses due to these useful attributes. A Seikret will accompany the hunter on their journey through the Forbidden Lands. With quick agility and a pouch for storage, these feisty feathery creatures will be a valuable steed for any hunter.

How Seikret's Work

Just like Canynes in Monster Hunter Rise, this bird's main purpose is to take hunters from point A to point B.

Being able to sprint and glide, they will help hunters traverse the landscape to their objective. The Seikret can also drift for tight turning which then results in a quick speed boost too.

Besides transportation, supply items for some hunts will be found in your Seikret's pouch. These supply items and other items like s, s, or even Slinger ammo can be used while mounted.

Additionally, Seikrets are able to hold one additional weapon in their pouch. They let hunters use the new mechanic known as Weapon Switching.

Controls

Basic

Call Seikret for manual riding (↓) - Calls the Seikret to mount and ride with no particular destination

Call Seikret for auto riding (↑) - Calls the Seikret to mount and ride to a marked objective or follow monster

Access item pouch (←) - The Seikret heeds your call and runs to your side for access to its item pouch. It holds Supply Items that can be issued at the start and mid-quest.

Weapon Switching (→) - The Seikret heeds your call and runs to your side to access your chosen secondary weapon. Both main and secondary weapons can only be equipped at Base Camp and Pop-up Tents.

Movement

While mounted:

  • Move (LS) - Basic movement with Left stick controls
  • Speed Up (R1)
  • Speed down (R2)
  • Full Stop (R2 hold)

At full speed (holding R1):

Drift (R1 hold + R2 hold + ←LS or →LS) - Seikret eases into a drift in the chosen direction for tighter turn

Drifting Dash (R2 release) - gain a burst of speed coming out of the drift

Holding R1 will keep you at full speed

Mountain Actions

The calvary is here! Every weapon is capable of a mounted attack. Some weapons like the Bowguns can be especially effective while riding because of the increased mobility.

And while the longer range weapons may be more advantageous to use while mounted, don't forget that when a hunter dismounts they launch themselves into the air. This means that during the dismount a hunter can launch a midair attack that can result in a mount on the opposing monster!

While mounted, with melee weapon:

  • Mount attack (△) - Attack with equipped weapon and stay mounted
  • Leaping Dismount Attack (△+ ◯) - Special attack that dismounts the hunter; can mount monster

While mounted, with range weapon:

  • Draw weapon (△)
    • Aim (with weapon drawn, L2 hold)
      • Riding Shot (while aiming, R2) - Shoot with the ranged weapon

Sheathe (◻) - sheathes weapon

A Great Defensive Option

Seikrets are more than just a mode of transportation. These mounts can aid the hunter in other ways. One very useful way that a Seikret can be used is by calling them when in danger after a monster knocked you down. While lying down on the ground after an attack, just call for Seikret and Seikret will come running to pull you out of harm's way.

However, be careful because some AoE attacks may still affect you even after mounting. But the added agility to reposition right after a huge attack is indispensable in a hunt. After escaping, a hunter can now reengage with the monster or take the time to heal or sharpen. It is a good idea to heal or sharpen while mounted because of the mobility as using items unmounted restricts movement.

Customization (Mount Fashion!)

Although the original colors are a nice green hue, some more fashionable hunters will be delighted to learn that Seikrets can be customized in their physical appearance.

Straight down from their skin to feathers and even their eyes can all be customized to a color of choice. Not only their physical appearance, the saddle and pouch can be colored too. Also, a hunter can give their companion some nifty pendants and decorations to personalize them even further.
