Overview

Note that this guide is based on the MHW beta playtests, there may be updates upon release so be sure to check back.

The Slinger is an essential supportive tool that each Hunter wields on their arm, no matter the weapon chosen. It was first introduced in Monster Hunter: World, and has seen some Quality of Life updates in Wilds.

With the Slinger, Hunters can interact with the environment in various ways, as well as fire different ammo and pods, serving different purposes both in and out of combat.

For example, the Slinger can be used to fetch items from a distance, to make boulders fall onto monsters, or to fire s that blind them.

Aiming and Firing the Slinger

While your weapon is sheathed, hold (L2) to aim theSlinger, and (R2) to fire whatever ammo is currently loaded. Note that each Slinger ammo will have different effects and ranges.

The Slinger can also be fired while the weapon is drawn by pressing (L2 + L3). In the following clip, the Hunter uses a to knock down a Rey Dau while it is performing an aerial attack.

There are two distinct types of Slinger Pods:

  • Slinger ammo found on the field is forever lost when you equip another type of ammo.
  • Slinger Pods you craft and bring in your inventory (such as , and Luring Pods) can be equipped and unequipped freely from the inventory. You can equip an item Sling Pod on top of a field Sling Pod.

Gathering items with the Slinger

While your weapon is sheathed, and while aiming the Slinger (Hold L2), pressing (â—¯) will let you interact with the environment.

It is possible to gather most items and resources from a distance. This can be done even while mounted on the Seikret, and it is useful to gather items and supportive endemic life –like the Vigormantle Bug or the Wiggly Litchi– without stopping.

Pods and Ammo Types

There are many different kinds of Slinger Pods. Some of them can be crafted, while others can only be found on the field.

Here is a list of the most useful Slinger Pods:

  • (Flashbug Phosphor)
    • When fired, they blind monsters, causing them to attack randomly. Knocks down monsters out of the air or while on walls.
  • Luring Pods (Exciteshroom + Bitter Broth)
    • The monster hit will target and follow the Hunter that hit them with this pod.
  • (Dung)
    • The monster hit with it will abandon the area.
  • (Dung Pod + Nitroshroom)
    • Same effect as a Dung Pod, and will also disperse packs of monsters around where it hits.
  • Echo Pods
    • Emits a strong sound that can stun certain monsters, especially those burrowing in sand.
  • Paint Pods
    • Makes a monster or location easier to find.
