When it is not powered by electricity, Rey Dau mostly uses physical attacks. These attacks are precise and swift, and dodging is a valid strategy against most of them, especially if you’re able to dodge below it, as its attacks do not have hitboxes there.
Like other high-tier monsters, Rey Dau can chain two, or even three attacks together, especially when it’s enraged. Be on the lookout for sudden attacks.
Its physical attacks include the usual tackles and tail swings common among Flying Wyverns. However, Rey Dau makes use of its wings to attack, too.
Ground Wing Drag
While on the ground, Rey Dau can drag one of its wings across the ground, both forward and to the side. The side-to-side attack doesn’t hit hard, but is very quick. The forward attack hits harder but can be easily seen coming.
Ground Wing Slam
It can also prepare a wing slam by slowly moving it up. This move is easy to read, but hits hard, so Hunters should disengage when they see it coming.
Backflip Wing Attack
One of Rey Dau’s signature attacks is his aerial wing slam after a backflip. It will suddenly leap into the air, and crash down after doing a backflip, slamming one of its wings forward. Focus on his movement and orientation to see which side the attack will come from, and move to the other side.
Wing Dragging Attack
Rey Dau can also drag his wing across a large distance while in the air. Rey Dau can aim this attack and follow Hunters to a certain degree, so dodge out of the way when it’s about to hit. This attack can also be offset.
After dragging his wings across the ground, Rey Dau will cover them with blue Fulgurite. This will increase the damage of its wing slams, so be careful. You can attack its wings to destroy the Fulgurite shell.
Thunder Blast
Aside from the usual enraged state, Rey Dau can also power itself up with electricity. This happens more often while under a thunderstorm and whenever a lightning bolt hits it. In this state, its horns and tail will spark with electricity, and it can unleash thunder blasts from its horns.
These thunder blasts can happen in a variety of ways: From the ground, after a sudden leap in the air, or even after another attack. Be on the lookout for audio cues, as Rey Dau will emit a specific sound and you will also be able to hear electricity sound effects.
After some of these thunder blasts, it will open up its horns so they cool down, allowing for a temporary Focus Strike.
Ultimate Thunder Blast
Rey Dau’s ultimate move happens when it charges up with electricity while it’s enraged and in its powered-up state. The whole screen will become darker, and he will unleash an even more devastating version of its thunder blast. This move can one-hit K.O., so run away from it and into Rey Dau, as it will be exposed afterward.
It is possible to knock Rey Dau out of his charged state by repeatedly hitting the body parts that glow with electricity, resulting in a knockdown.
Nest
The hardest part of Rey Dau’s fight happens when he moves onto its nest. The floor there is made out of Fulgurite, which conducts electricity. Rey Dau’s electric attacks will cause an Area of Effect explosion after a brief delay, making the fight significantly more difficult.
Using the Falling Grounding Rock in the ceiling, or the Grounding Pods in the area, will dispel electricity around where they hit, and temporarily knock Rey Dau out of its charged state.
