Gypceros can use a variety of physical attacks, as well as its signature flashing that can stun hunters, and poisonous attacks from its mouth.
Triple Charge
This Flying Wyvern isn’t particularly quick to attack, but its charge happens almost instantly, leaving no room to react. Hunters should avoid standing directly in front of it to avoid getting tripped. Gypceros will also spit poison in the Hunter’s direction while charging, making it difficult to heal up or sharpen while it is happening. While enraged, Gypceros can charge up to three times.
Gypceros can also spit poison in other ways, such as directly in front of it, or throwing a poison spit upward which then creates a poison rain briefly.
It also shares the usual 360º tail slam with other Flying Wyverns and a pecking attack directly underneath it.
Flash Attack
Gypceros can flash and stun hunters with its crest in two different ways:
- Standing in place, snapping its teeth and moving its head side to side in a taunting way to flash Hunters in all directions. This creates a Wound on its crest while he is readying the attack, allowing players to stop it if they react quickly with a Focus Strike.
- Charging forward and suddenly flashing in front of it. This attack can be difficult to predict and dodge, so Hunters must have quick reactions.
Breaking Gypceros’ crest will render its flash attacks useless. When it is downed, go all out on the offensive on its crest, which is also a weak spot.
Multiple Tail Slam
Gypceros uses its tail as a whip, extending it to attack Hunters who are further away. It can deal significant damage, so Hunters must react when they see Gypceros turning away and preparing to slam its tail. Gypceros will often use this attack on stunned Hunters.
Apparent / Fake Death
When Gypceros is low on health, it will fake its death. This can happen anytime before or after limping to its nest. Shortly after, he will rise again with a powerful attack which Hunters must avoid at all costs.
Hunters should use this opportunity to either heal up or attack for a short time before retreating. Trying to carve Gypceros while it feigns its death will rarely work out unless Hunters react very quickly. Its body will spasm before it stands up again, allowing Hunters to prepare for the attack.
