Marvel RivalsUltron's Battle Matrix Protocol Meta Team Comps (Marvel Rivals Autobattler)

Just like Teamfight Tactics, we've got you covered with meta team comps in Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol, the new Marvel Rivals autobattler!

Intro

Note: Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol is now currently unavailable. We'll be sure to update you if this "experimental mode" returns in the future, but for now, check out our closing thoughts below!

Although there weren't any established rank tiers yet in Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol, there was a top 500 ladder for players to test their skills!

We've got you covered with different meta comps that have worked for our team to get 1st place.

shugo ladder battle matrix

For each team comp, we'll be including the included Heroes and their Strengthen Modules, Module ratios, and formations.

Closing Thoughts

Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol has come to a close, but it's been a fun glimpse into its potential.

While it certainly wasn't optimized for balance, it did showcase some unique additions to the genre.

Meta Recap

The Purple/Green core was the most prominent across the board, taking advantage of many powerful Strategists. Among the Heroes, Venom, Jeff, and Invisible Woman were clearly the defining trio.

Although the game was heavily Strategist favored, Vertical Vanguards stood up, showing full Blue investment could indeed work. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for Red or (pure) Green.

Despite the clearly dominant Heroes standing out over others, there was still room for small team adjustments where others could shine. While far from perfect, it showed us the potential of their Hero swapping mechanics, and gives us hope for solid improvements in the future.

Future Potential

Given how much effort was put into designing this "experimental mode", we can only assume it'll be expanded upon and return even better than before. Its depth may have been rather surface level in its first iteration, but there's a lot of potential for expanded strategies and synergies.

We'd definitely like to see improvements made to the UI, allowing players to read the details of each ability. It's certainly challenging to play an Auto-Battler when you don't know anything that's happening.

Overall, while there's still plenty to be done, they did a great job with the visuals and we look forward to its return. Hopefully they can learn and improve from the community feedback, then create something truly special with "Battle Matrix 2.0"!

Examples of Winning Team Comps

Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol is mostly centered around its strongest Heroes, more so than any specific team comps.

We're still early into its life span, but it's no secret that a specific Module combination is dominating the meta.

When it comes to positioning, consider the examples as a starting point, and be open to adjusting depending on the enemy. For setups positioned to one side, feel free to mirror it on the opposite side.

Ultimate Revival (1 - 1 - 4)

protocol equilibriumprotocol reboot

ultimate revival comp

The Ultimate Revival comp is about protecting Venom long enough for your Heroes' Ultimates to take over the game. The core of Venom + Jeff + Invisible Woman is a dominant force, with your choice of Storm or Iron Man for their AoE team-wipe potential.

With several backup Revives, the team will stay healthy and continuously spam Ultimates well into overtime. You can use Rocket Raccoon to maximize this, but otherwise Mantis is here to help counter enemy Jeff Ults.

This comp uses a Purple/Green Module split, primarily to capitalize on the power of Deadly Healing (converts Strategist Healing to Damage), but also to earn additional Epic Modules. Invisible Woman becomes the top DPS with this setup, creating a potent force beyond Iron Man's burst kills.

Tips and Tricks

  • Loki is much better than Adam during the early to mid game, helping provide extremely efficient Healing. However, once you hit six Strengthen Modules you'll probably want to swap, as by that time Revives start to take over.
  • Venom absolutely needs King in Black by Round 11. If not found as one of your first four Strengthen Modules, there usually isn't enough time to scale him into an unkillable monster.
  • Prioritize Purple to 40, then Green to 40. Feel free to pick up any Charge Acceleration (Green) on the way for faster Strategist Ultimate charging. If you're falling behind in the mid to late game (post Purple 40), you can reroll more aggressively for Deadly Healing and any Epic Modules.

Team-Up Bonuses

symbiote shenanigans team-up Symbiote Shenanigans: Venom shares a part of his symbiotes with Jeff the Land Shark. When using the Team-Up Ability in either his normal state or during Hide and Seek, Jeff extends symbiote tendrils to nearby allies, linking with them. Linked teammates receive continuous healing. When the ability reaches its maximum duration, all linked allies gain a large burst of healing, with excess healing being converted into Bonus Health.

jeff-nado team-up Jeff-Nado: When Storm unleashes her Omega Hurricane, if Jeff the Land Shark has It's Jeff! ready, he can channel her power to conjure a ferocious Jeff-nado! Additionally, a Jeff-nado will form if Jeff encounters Storm’s Omega Hurricane after devouring enemies with It's Jeff! Enemies will be drawn into the swirling chaos after enduring sustained damage from the Jeff-nado for some time.

  • King in Black: Devour permanently grants 10% of damage dealt as maximum health, up to 1,200, and enlarges the character.

Jeff the Land Shark

  • Looting Leviathan: Gain a random base module each time Jeff devours more than 3 enemies with his Ultimate Ability. The more enemies Jeff consumes, the higher the chance of receiving a rarer module.

    Devour 4: Common 90%, Rare 8%, Epic 2%
    Devour 5: Common 60%, Rare 30%, Epic 10%
Devour 6 or more: Common 0%, Rare 70%, Epic 30%.

Gamma Monstro (1 - 1 - 4)

protocol equilibriumprotocol reboot

gamma monstro comp

Gamma Monstro is an alternative to popular Venom + Jeff + Invisible Woman core. Hulk functions as a low investment replacement for Venom, which is perfect when you are unable to acquire and farm up King in Black.

Namor is the carry in this team, pairing with Hulk for additional team-up bonuses. It can still easily run the Deadly Healing (converts Strategist Healing to Damage) combo while overall requiring fewer key resources to get the comp up and running.

Tips and Tricks

  • Without Venom you have a lot more freedom when it comes to picking Strengthen Modules. Acquiring both for Jeff will help accelerate your Looting Leviathans, so if you're doing well enough you do have the option to prioritize Split Water Columns earlier.
  • Loki is a really strong means of sustain in the early game, especially with Final Illusion. Adam on the other hand can come later, so feel free to make use of other Strategists in the meantime if not immediately acquired at the start of game.

Team-Up Bonuses

gamma monstro team-up Gamma Monstro: Hulk charges Namor with gamma radiation. When Namor receives the radiation, he will summon an extra Gamma Monstro which will continuously fire gamma rays at locked-on enemies. The longer the rays hit, the higher the damage.

  • Monstro Spawns Army: Reduce Aquatic Dominion cooldown by 9s, increase Monstro Spawns Limit by 4, health by 50, and maximum duration by 8s.

Loki

  • Final Illusion: Reduce Doppelganger cooldown by 9s, increase the maximum number of illusions to 2, and boost healing coefficient by 50%.
  • Loki's Sanctuary: Reduce Regeneration Domain cooldown by 18s, and increase Force Field Core health by 100.

Adam Warlock

  • Fighting Nation Descent: Increase damage of allies revived by the Ultimate Ability by 80% for 5s.
  • Forge to Revive: Increase Ultimate Ability post-revival health by 100 and Invincible duration by 2s.

Vertical Vanguards

protocol fortress

vertical vanguards comp

Vertical Vanguards is a straightforward strategy that fully invests into its tanks. This allows players to all-in on Blue and take advantage of stat bonuses sooner, while hopefully hitting Epic Modules earlier than its foes.

While it can definitely fall off against the top tier Revive/Ultimate spamming comps, it does have potential, especially over Vertical Duelists or Vertical Strategists.

Tips and Tricks

  • Aside from finding Venom so that you can acquire King in Black ASAP, don't commit too many early resources into rerolling Heroes. Unfortunately, this comp can struggle with the variance of early starting options. Since you're picking six Vanguards from the get-go, what you see is what you get.
  • Pace the game depending on what you've encountered. If you've already got your ideal composition and are winning fights early, keep pressing that advantage to hopefully maintain a win streak. However, if you're losing, feel free to sit on a losing streak for a handful of rounds, then turn the tide with the extra Income.
  • Spending down to 30-40 is totally fine, especially when hitting your breakpoints. If you're in the late game and haven't hit your Epics yet, consider spamming rerolls until you find them. They provide a much greater power spike than the small incremental Modules.

  • King in Black: Devour permanently grants 10% of damage dealt as maximum health, up to 1,200, and enlarges the character.

Hulk

  • Gamma Shield Bomb: Each Indestructible Guard shield triggers an area explosion upon ending.
  • Gamma Shield Generator: Accelerate Indestructible Guard casting speed, and refresh Indestructible Guard cooldown after dealing 200 damage.

Magneto

  • Meteor Gravitation: Before the meteor lands and explodes, pull nearby enemies to the center.
  • Wrath of Magneto: Increase the Ultimate Ability's maximum duration by 2s and Damage absorption limit by 800.

The Thing

  • Invincible Haymaker: Stone Haymaker has a 50% chance to trigger a Super Punch, knocking enemies back. If pushed to the edge of the map, it deals additional damage.
  • Yancy Street Rampage: Increase Yancy Street Charge maximum duration by 5s, and stun targets for 1s upon collision.

Protect the Sniper (2 - 1 - 3)

protocol equilibriumprotocol reboot

protect the sniper comp

Protect the Sniper is a comp that's specifically built around Black Widow. The goal is to keep her safe during the early to mid game, allowing her to farm up the permanent Damage of Sniper Elite. Once online she becomes a one woman machine, gunning down all backline enemies in sight.

This is an anti-meta comp that can pick off the ever-present Strategists that are otherwise difficult to reach. Just like the Ultimate Revival comp, it also includes the Invisible Woman Deadly Healing (converts Strategist Healing to Damage) combo.

Tips and Tricks

  • Only pursue this team comp if you acquire Sniper Elite as one of your first two Strengthen Modules, otherwise you don't have enough time to scale it effectively. Thankfully you'll know by Round 6 whether or not it's possible, in which case you can assemble something else.
  • Peni is very good at keeping melee units off of Black Widow, but the one downside is that all your Heroes clump together. This means AoE burst Heroes like Iron Man can potentially explode your team. If you're struggling against these matchups, you'll likely want to drop Peni and pivot to a 1-1-4 setup with Adam.

Team-Up Bonuses

rocket network team-up Rocket Network: Rocket Raccoon upgrades his B.R.B. by integrating the Bionic Spider-Nest effect. Now, the beacon creates Cyber-Webs when placed and periodically spawns Arachno-Mines and Spider-Drones, and can be linked with Peni Parker’s current Cyber-Webs. Peni Parker can deploy Bionic Spider-Nest and Armored Spider-Nest.

Black Widow

  • Red Room Rifle 2099: Increase Red Room Rifle firing speed and magazine capacity by 80%.
  • Sniper Elite: Straight Shooter deals 10 additional damage per hit, each Final Hit permanently increases this damage by 5, up to 260.

Ragnarok Rebirth (2 - 1 - 3)

protocol equilibriumprotocol reboot

ragnarok rebirth comp

Ragnarok Rebirth takes advantage of the Loki + Hela + Thor trio, allowing for game-swinging Revivals, provided that Hela lands the final hit when defeating foes. It's another spin on the standard Venom + Jeff + Invisible Woman core.

Hela offers a different angle of attack with more sustained Damage, compared to the big burst Heroes like Iron Man. Since the comp inherently has Revives from its team-up, you can forgo the usual Adam pick during the late game.

Tips and Tricks

  • While it's not quite as resilient as the top Revival comps, it does offer a flexible "Plan B" during games where all three Heroes are available from the start. Worst case scenario you can always pivot to a more standard setup if the trio doesn't hold their weight.
  • Outside of the listed priority Strengthen Modules, look to grab both of Hela's to improve your offense. King in Black is a must for early scaling, but the other two could be delayed. Grab Final Illusion if your core feels fragile, and Looting Leviathan if you're ahead (so you can farm earlier).
