Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol is a new limited-time Auto-Battler mode coming to Marvel Rivals. In this mode, six players will compete against each other throughout various rounds, choosing and strengthening their Heroes, and battling it out until one remains victorious.
"UBMP" is announced as an experimental game mode and will launch on June 6th, 2025 as part of the Season 2.5 update. While it isn't intended to remain forever, perhaps that could change if it's well received by the community.
In this guide we'll cover everything we know so far, along with some speculation about some of its mechanics!
UPDATE: As of July 2025, the Marvel Rivals devs have not made any announcements for the future of Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol. We'll update you as soon as we hear more.
Release Time and Availability
Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol releases on June 6th, 2025 at 9:00 AM UTC, and ends on June 23rd, 2025 at 9:00 AM UTC.
What We Know So Far
Each player will begin the game by selecting a six Hero lineup from a random assortment of Heroes, then dive into combat throughout many PvP and PvE (Galacta Bot) rounds.
In PvP rounds, players will be matched up evenly to battle. Those who lose the round will have some health deducted, as well as any players who end up in a tie. When a player reaches zero health points, they are eliminated and receive a rank based on the amount of players left in the round.
When an odd number of players remain, one player will be matched against a random mirrored lineup. If they lose, their health points decrease. However, if the mirrored lineup loses, the mirrored opponent does not lose health.
Similarly to other popular Auto-Battlers like Teamfight Tactics, players will be able to modify and upgrade the stats of their Heroes. From what we've seen so far, it appears that right from the beginning of the game you'll select and purchase "Base Modules" to improve specific attributes.
There are various types of Base Modules which apply bonuses to each category of Hero (Vanguard, Duelist, Strategist). Additionally, there are Base Modules which provide stats based on the amount of Unique Roles.
Looking at the star icons and their percentages, this indicates the rarity drop system. Acquiring more Base Modules of the same role will increase your odds of finding rarer Modules of that kind, as well as provide more stat bonuses as the "Protocol Level" improves.
So far, we know Modules have effects such as:
Base Module
Description
Attack Speed Enhancement (Vanguard)
Increase Vanguard Primary Weapon firing rate and magazine capacity by 4.0%.
Charge Acceleration (Unique)
For Each Unique Role, Increase Ally Heroes' Ultimate Ability Energy Acquisition Efficiency by 6.0%.
Damage Enhancement (Vanguard)
Vanguard Damage Done increased by 4.0%.
Defensive Shell (Duelist)
Duelist Damage Taken reduced by 2.0%.
Healing Enhancement (Strategist)
STRATEGIST Healing Done increased by 8.0%.
Health Suppression (Unique)
For Each Unique Role, Reduce Enemy Maximum Health by 2.0%.
You will have the option to purchase as many Base Modules as you like and can afford, while also being able to Reroll for more options. Finding and purchasing the same Base Module will upgrade it to the next tier (indicated by the stars).
Players can purchase Base Modules at any time, including during battle. However, anything purchased while in-combat won't be applied until the next round.
Clicking on the "Activated" tab will show the Base Modules you've purchased, and also give you the ability to sell them. So far we can see that Base Modules are sold for 4 Tokens each (perhaps more for higher tiers?), meaning you will only be -1 Token for every Base Module that is bought and eventually sold.
Players will also have the ability to swap out their Heroes during a match (known as a Replacement Module). This can be done by clicking on the "Change Hero" tab from the Base Module screen, and then paying the cost for the replacement.
The Heroes available will be random within a chosen category, meaning you do have at least some level of agency in case you're looking for a particular Hero. If you happen to replace a Hero that's equipped with a Strengthen Module (see more details below), it will be randomly replaced with a different Strengthen Module that's applicable to one of your Heroes.
Positioning looks to be a key part of this mode, seeing that there's an entire round dedicated to it. Players familiar with the Auto-Battler genre already know how important this can be when it comes to winning a fight.
Much is still unknown about the mechanics, but one very unique feature is the player-controlled aspect of combat. You will have the ability to aim and target the enemies manually with your "Ultron Robot".
From what we've see so far, it looks to be mostly supplementary damage compared to your Auto-Battler comp. However, it is a way to help focus down certain targets or pick off weak enemies.
It will certainly add a whole new dynamic to the Auto-Battler genre, since there's now an active element to each battle. We can also see icons for a couple of abilities, meaning there may be additional ways to impact the fight.
Ultimately, we'll have to wait and see how it all works. The damage, cooldowns, and precise abilities are yet to be determined.
At the end of the round we can see a new type of modifier called "Strengthen Modules". These look to be Hero-specific, allowing players a much deeper level of customization to really benefit their team. Strengthen Modules are obtained by defeating Galacta Bots, which are the PvE rounds of the game.
Here are some of the revealed Strengthen Modules we know so far:
Increase Guardian Shield radius by 2m, maximum health by 750, and recovery speed by 100 per second, while enhancing the slowdown effect on enemies passing through the Guardian Shield.
Increase Yancy Street Charge maximum duration by 5s, and stun targets for 1s upon collision.
Looking at some of the numbers leaves us to believe there could be multiple (but likely shorter) rounds in a single game. We can see an example of a round reaching 15-3. We'll have to wait and see what this means in terms of gameplay, but we're excited to jump in and find out soon!
Cosmetic Rewards
Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol launches with a mini "Battle Pass-like" challenge, rewarding players a Spray and Emojis for completing matches and earning enough points. If this limited-time game mode is as fun as it looks, I imagine it'll be easy enough for anyone to unlock and enjoy!
