Enshrouded 1.0: How to Level Up Fast

Updated on Oct 21, 2026

Overview

Leveling up in Enshrouded becomes more efficient when each trip helps you progress in several ways. Completing quests, exploring new locations and gathering useful resources lets you earn experience while preparing for tougher areas.

This guide covers practical ways to gain XP, reduce unnecessary travel and collect extra skill points as you explore Embervale.

Thanks to Dopamine Hunter for sharing the leveling methods and progression tips used in this guide.

If you are just getting started, our Enshrouded Beginner Guide covers your first base, essential crafting unlocks and early progression.

Mine Useful Resource Deposits

Mining is a useful way to earn XP while collecting materials for crafting and upgrades. Flintstone and metal ore deposits let you work towards both goals at the same time.

Mining XP comes from extracting eligible resources, so digging through ordinary terrain or swinging without collecting an XP-bearing material does not provide the same benefit.

When you find a deposit you need, spend time working through it instead of collecting only a handful of materials. You earn experience as you gather eligible resources, so fully emptying the vein is not a requirement for receiving XP.

Bring spare pickaxes for longer trips, as a large deposit can wear through a tool before you finish. Fit mining into your exploration whenever the materials support your next upgrade.

Set Up a Mining Outpost

A nearby Flame Altar can shorten the journey between a useful deposit and your base. Carry the Stone needed to craft one, check your active altar limit and choose a safe, permitted location outside the Shroud.

Keep the deposit outside the altar’s protected building area if you want it to regenerate through normal world resets.

When your backpack fills up or your tools are nearly broken, return home to unload materials and repair your equipment at the Workbench. Fast travel back to the outpost when you are ready to continue.

If the mine is inside the Shroud, leave enough time to reach clear ground before your protection expires. Plan your exit route before relying on fast travel.

Gather Materials for Flame Progression

Check the next Strengthen the Flame requirements before leaving home so you can gather materials for an upcoming upgrade.

Not every useful resource awards mining XP. Mycelium can be needed for Flame progression even though mining it does not provide experience.

Character level and Flame Level are separate parts of progression. Strengthening the Flame helps you access tougher Shroud areas and, in 1.0, unlocks armor recipes for the next crafting tier.

Discover Locations and Unlock Ancient Spires

Discovering new locations awards XP and can lead you towards quests, equipment and gathering spots. Investigate landmarks, settlements and ruins along your route instead of passing everything between objectives.

A short detour can uncover a useful resource deposit or another destination worth returning to later.

Ancient Spires are especially valuable because they unlock permanent fast travel destinations. Their climbs usually involve environmental puzzles, traps and routes between different rooms.

Look for switches, grapple points and openings that let you continue upward. Your Glider and Grappling Hook help with traversal, while Double Jump can make awkward gaps and ledges easier once you have unlocked it.

At the top, interact with the Flame to activate the spire’s fast travel point. You can then use the tower as a high launch point for your Glider, making nearby quests and gathering areas quicker to reach.

Prioritize accessible spires as you enter new regions so future trips involve less time retracing the same paths.

Complete Quests Along the Same Route

Quests provide experience while guiding you towards new areas and progression unlocks. Check your Journal regularly and choose objectives suited to your equipment and supplies.

Rescuing crafting survivors is particularly useful because bringing them home opens up crafting options and further quests, giving you more ways to strengthen your character.

Before leaving home, compare your active objectives on the map and group together those in the same region.

You could complete a survivor objective, investigate a nearby ruin and gather materials on the way back. Connecting these tasks reduces repeated travel and helps you earn experience from several activities during one journey.

Explore the buildings and camps you visit, too. Read lore pages for story details and potential quest leads rather than leaving as soon as the main objective is complete.

Clear Shroud Roots for Extra Skill Points

Shroud Roots strengthen your character by awarding skill points directly, allowing you to invest in skills without waiting for another level-up.

The reward depends on the location:

  • Standalone Shroud Root: One skill point.
  • Elixir Well: Three skill points when cleared.

Each location grants its reward once per character, so returning after a root respawns does not provide another set of points.

Prepare before entering the Shroud by repairing your equipment, refreshing food and Rested, and bringing healing supplies. Keep an eye on your remaining Shroud time and remember your exit route.

If you need a more reliable combat setup for the enemies guarding these locations, our Enshrouded Early Game Weapons Guide explains useful weapon combinations and when to use them.

Clear nearby enemies first and destroy any enemy-spawning objects that would interrupt you. Switch to an axe to cut down the root efficiently.

Destroying it temporarily clears the surrounding Shroud, giving you room to investigate the immediate area. The root and fog can return when the area resets, so use your map to identify uncleared locations when looking for more skill points.

Combine These Methods on Each Trip

Choose a quest as your main destination, then look for useful stops along the way. Discover nearby locations, unlock an accessible Ancient Spire and gather materials for crafting or Flame upgrades.

Add an uncleared Shroud Root or Elixir Well when your gear and supplies are ready. Back at base, unload materials, repair your tools and check your next upgrades.

This keeps XP, skill points, crafting and exploration progressing together while reducing repeated travel.
