Gladius Expedition Executor Build

Intro

Executor is a high skill ceiling character that can work as both a DPS and a frontline because he can deflect every attack in the game. For Gladius, Beast of Night (Tricephalos) specifically, he is worse than some others because Executor works best when he wields a Katana.

Katanas, however, don't have holy damage. Gladius, Beast of Night (Tricephalos) is weak to holy damage because it staggers him, so we either need to get lucky and find a Katana with a passive that adds holy damage, get Holy Grease, or just suck it up and fight without it.

Equipment Loadout

Armaments

Best-in-slot

Alternatives

Hand Of Malenia is the best, together with Rivers Of Blood. They can only be found as rare drops or bought from a settlement or merchant. That's why you can also opt for our alternatives and still do very well! We are aiming to wield 2 Katanas, because the dual-wield attacks from Katanas specifically work amazingly!

Talismans

Best-in-slot

  • Winged Sword Insignia
  • Warrior Jar Shard
  • Dagger Talisman

Warrior Jar Shard and Winged Sword Insignia work very well with Katana’s in general because of both their good Weapon Arts and their fast attack speed. Dagger Talisman is another great one, specifically for Executor, because you can easily break an enemy's stance with the deflect mechanic.

Alternatives

  • Lord of Blood's Exultation
  • Erdtree's Favor
  • Any Defensive talisman with the fire damage negation

Consumables

Best-in-slot

  • Boiled Crab / Boiled Prawn
  • Greenburst Crystal Tear / Greenspill Crystal Tear
  • Pickled Turtle Neck
  • Holy Grease

Game Plan and Pathing

Day 1

The Executor struggles a little early because he lacks HP, so if you miss one deflect, it can put you in the dirt. That's why we aim to farm a little bit outside of forts and cathedrals until you’re either level 2 or 3. After that, we aim to get both Flask upgrades from churches if they are on your route and to do as many forts, camps, and cathedrals as possible. If a mine is on your route, do that too, so you have an epic upgrade shard for later when you want to get an epic weapon. We aim to be level 7-8 minimum by the end of day one.

Day 2

On Day 2, we want to start looking for either a Field Boss, Castle, or Ruin. We can run towards a Crater if it spawns. The Executor does not need this unless you have Rivers Of Blood found on day 1 and want to upgrade it to legendary.

Keep stacked up on Consumables, but don't be afraid to burn through them.

Keep looking for weapon passives and try to get as high a level as possible for day 2!

If you have trouble finding a good Weapon, try the castle in the middle. There is a boss at the top of the castle, and at the bottom, they both drop purple-tier loot, so you should be able to get a good Weapon from that! If you kill the bottom one, a gate opens to a room where you can choose a Talisman, so that you can also get a preferred Talisman.

Day 3

With this guide, we are taking into account that you fight the boss Gladius, Beast of Night (Tricephalos). Be sure to check the shop and level up before you enter the arena!

Gladius, Beast of Night (Tricephalos) is most dangerous at mid-range because of his swipe attacks with his sword.

The Executor can deflect all of this, so it should not be a problem, but be sure to keep switching on and off for your deflect stance, since you can't run during it. Once you are in his range, the only dangerous attack you can't deflect is his grab; for the rest, you should be fine as far as Phase 1 is concerned.

Phase 2 is where you want to pop your stamina Consumables, which I mentioned in the consumable list. Mainly because 3 bosses will now attack you, meaning you need that stamina for those deflects, if you do things correctly, you can easily stagger the boss for critical attacks.

Additional Tips

  • The Executor is very reliant on being able to hit the deflects consistently. Otherwise, you are playing Samurai Jack without any abilities. So you need to practice those deflects whenever you can, which can take some getting used to.
  • Be sure to use Consumables on every day end boss fight, there are plenty to go around, so don't be greedy and keep it until you die.
  • If you are playing with 3 people, keep in mind to use your Ultimate to resurrect allies. It makes you super tanky and gives you big AOE damage, so you can easily resurrect allies.
  • You can also use your ultimate as a last-ditch to break a boss his posture.
