Build Overview

If you're looking for one of the best Sorc builds in Season 13, Chain Lightning is definitely one of them and this guide will teach you all you need to know about how to make the most out of Chain Lightning's Damage.

The short version is that Critical Strike Chance Chain Lightning in combination with Boundless Unstable Currents allows for crackling energy to generate absolutely everywhere with +85% crit chance. The build takes advantage of collecting these crackling energies, and combines them to create a massive ramping multiplier for Boundless Unstable Currents and Aspect of Overwhelming Currents; to the point where our chain lightning hits for Trillions of Damage

This variant of the build is designed to create consistency in helping with all ACTIVITIES.

It is designed in such a way as to not require strenuous effort on your hands, have smooth gameplay flow, mobility, and survivability.

Build Variants

This version assumes you have all the gear, aspects, and gems to hit specific breakpoints for it to function. We no longer need any Cooldown Reduction or Critical Hit Chance in the build as we have now successfully achieved enough ranks into shock skill from our BerĂº of the Threefold charms.

Aspect of Overwhelming Currents Crits everywhere, this will become an average +180%[x] multiplier

Important!

If you do not have Esu's Heirloom Charm, or a +1 slot charm, you need to physically wear Esu's Heirloom.

BerĂº of the Threefold Set is really strong when combine with Frigid Hydra Hydra due to it's ability to proc 2 elements at once giving us amazing damage.

At the same time, it also causes spam of Overpower Meteor that generates overpowers for our Blaze Teleport to have teleport spam.

Flame Shield 1/15 Points: Utility spell, extra points do nothing for us right now

  • Duration Bonus Flame Shield Longer duration = less dying
  • Cooldown Reduction Flame Shield More uptime = less dying
  • Scorch Flame Shield Immobilize applies CC for extra protection or stagger generation

Frozen Orb 1/15 Points: Utility Enchantment, applies vulnerable to everything for us as well as applies Crowd Control.

  • Barrier Frozen Orb Provides some defense through shielding.
  • Duration Bonus Frozen Orb Flies longer = more stuff becomes vulnerable
  • Shattered Path Frozen Orb What applies "Vulnerable"

Charged Bolts 1/15 Points: Utility Spell, provides weaken to enemies and Movement speed

  • Weaken Charged Bolts Weakens targets making us more tanky
  • Movement Speed Charged Bolts Gives us movespeed

Teleport 1/15 Points: Utility Spell, Extra Point stun a little longer, but not enough to devote + points into

  • Ferocity Teleport Attacking faster means faster rotations and smoother gameplay
  • Weaken Teleport Allows us to be more tanky
  • Blaze Teleport Combined with overpower generated by BerĂº of the Threefold + Overpower Meteor, we can perma spam teleport like the good ole' days

Ice Armor 15/15 Points: Makes you invincible due to armor effecting general damage reduction rather than just Physical Damage.

  • Cooldown Reduction Ice Armor Smaller Cooldown means its up more often
  • Duration Bonus and Barrier Ice Armor Longer uptime and more armor
  • Permafrost Ice Armor unstoppable means we cannot be crowd controlled + even more armor

Hydra 1/15 Points: Applies CDR for Boundless Unstable Currents and double stack generation for BerĂº of the Threefold

  • Cooldown Reduction Hydra Reduces cooldowns of abilities. The more targets hit, the more cdr generated
  • Frigid Hydra Hydra Applies 2 stacks of Fer of the Threefold for very fast damage ramp

Familiar 1/15 Points: Utility Spell

  • Size Bonus Familiar - Larger Aoe for generating Crackling Energy with Boundless Unstable Currents
  • Duration Bonus Familiar - Last Longer
  • Healing Flames Familiar - Generates more overpower stacks for Blaze Teleport

Meteor 1/15 Points: Utility Spell, Provides Overstack Charges for Blaze Teleport and stagger generation

  • Overpower Meteor Generates Over power stacks
  • Immobilize Meteor Generates Stagger
  • Shooting Star Meteor No Delay on Meteor Drop

Lightning Spear 1/15 Points: Utility Spell - Automatically casted due to Unstable Currents

  • Projectile Speed Lightning Spear Faster Spears = Stun before things die, applying our damage multiplier from Aspect of Arrogance
  • Reverse Polarity Lightning Spear Stuns the target

Ball Lightning 1/15 Points: Utility Spell - Automatically casted due to Unstable Currents.

  • Multiple Projectiles Ball Lightning More balls = More Crackling Energy
  • Crackling Energy Ball Lightning Creates Crackling energy for our Boundless Unstable Currents
  • Orbital Ball Lightning Allows the dissipation of ball lightning to be at our feet for easy crackling energy pick up

Chain Lightning 15/15 Points: Main Source of Damage

  • Damage Bonus Chain Lightning Massive Single Target Buff
  • Critical Strike Chance Chain Lightning Generates our Crackling Energies to synergize with Boundless Unstable Currents
  • Power Flux Chain Lightning Massive Single Target Buff


Ultimate:

Unstable Currents 15/15 Points: Massive DPS Increase

  • Cooldown Reduction Unstable Currents Shorter CD = More Burst Cycles
  • Damage Bonus Unstable Currents More Damage
  • Boundless Unstable Currents Most busted ability in sorc's kit at the moment

Paragon Board

NOTE: This Priority list is assuming all glyphs are already level 25 for their secondary effect. Therefore the focus is on the bonus of the first effect increasing as you level up the glyph.

1. Elementalist is the best and most powerful glyph for us as it increases the additive damage from the rare nodes by such a large amount, which become a separate additive conditional multiplier for our damage.

2. Control Due to Reverse Polarity Lightning Spear and Frozen Orb, everything will be Immobilized for the +20%[x] damage multiplier. The Additive damage to crowd controlled targets will become a separate additive conditional multiplier for our damage.

3. Exploit is a standard damage multiplier effecting all of our damage. Because we are wearing Flickerstep and not regular boots with Aspect of Shredding Blades. We need a way to make everything vulnerable, and the where the Frozen Orb Enchantment comes in. From here, everything will be made vulnerable and apply Vulnerable's standard 20%[x] multiplier and as well as the multipliers from Exploit.

Destruction We do crit Damage so, only crit Gylph

Charged Easy 15%[x] and +10%[x] multipliers for decent damage. The additive damage given by node does nothing for us.

Mercenary

Subo: Map hacks are over powered. Also boost DoT damage and Static Field Blizzard is a DoT

Aldkin: Gives damage reduction, we are sorcs and therefore we are squishy. Any amount helps.

How it Plays

Chain Lightning scales to the moon when you have enough critical strike chance to generate enough crackling energy with Critical Strike Chance Chain Lightning to stack Boundless Unstable Currents. This critical strike chance also plays into Aspect of Overwhelming Currents allowing a massive ramping damage cycle.

Skill Rotation

  1. Cast Unstable Currents
  2. Cast Hydra Every ~4 seconds into a pack to gain stacks of BerĂº of the Threefold or get cdr for Boundless Unstable Currents and overpower stacks for Blaze Teleport
  3. Cast Chain Lightning and the build will play itself from there
  4. Cast Blaze Teleport only when you have overpower stacks (Which is often) to keep mobile
  • Cast Ice Armor when you are in danger
  • Cast Flame Shield when you are in danger

Mobility Tech (Only if NOT RUNNING OVERPOWER TELEPORT TECH)

Wormhole Teleport Has some cool tricks

  1. Combo 1 - Teleport > Enchant Teleport
    1. This allows you to reset the cooldown on teleport completely. It won't go on cooldown and therefore with proper timing, you can teleport every 2.5 seconds.
  2. Combo 2 - Teleport > Enchant Teleport > Teleport > Teleport
    1. You can pull off a very fast quadruple teleport with no cooldown in gear or skills.

Attack Speed Breakpoints:

Aim for 90.6%, but anything about 78.6% is good.
