How it Works
Maximizing Damage - Gear Affix Guide
- The affixes on gear are stupid strong now, with sources of [x] damage
- Generally you always Masterwork and want GA on Critical Strike Damage [x] or Damage over time [x] (build dependent) because it has the largest value, however you ideally want one masterwork on Vulnerable Damage [x].
- On your gear there is multiplicative damage say Critical strike damage 50%[x] and Vulnerable Damage 35%[x] and Lightning Damage 13%[x]
- These will multiply together for 1.5 x 1.35 x 1.13 = 2.29x damage
Different types of these [x] damage add together to form Buckets - Think of each of these as there own aspect, hidden away on a secret toe ring. A direct damage build gets 3 toe ring aspects. - Critical Strike Damage [x] is one bucket and they all add together (Two rolls of 50% = 100% = 2x damage)
- Damage over time [x] is one bucket and they all add together the same as crit damage
- Vulnerable Damage is another bucket and they all add together (35% + 35% = 70% = 1.7x damage)
- All Damage [x] and Elemental Damage such as Lightning Damage [x] combine into one bucket
- All builds prioritize either Crit Dmg OR damage over time [x], THEN Vulnerable THEN All Damage/Elemental. It follows this order BECAUSE the values are simply larger on Crit/DoT
Per Northwar who did the math, when deciding whether to masterwork Crit [x] or Vuln [x] you want to Divide your Crit [x] by your Vuln [x] and achieve a ratio as close to 1.79 as possible - You do [100% + total crit multi] / [100% + total Vuln multi] = 1.79 ish
- Example say you have Three 50% crit damage rolls you get 150%[x] and then add 100% = 250%
- You take 250% and divide by 1.79 to get 1.39, so you want to aim for around 39%[x] vulnerable damage
For the Lazy - Math hard, Prioritize Crit [x] masterwork on Gloves, Wand, and Focus
- Prioritize Vuln [x] masterwork on your one legendary ring and Amulet (assuming you also have Crit [x] on there as well
