Deadlock Map Overview

Unstable Rifts are one of Deadlock's newest map events, where players must take control of the area around a Rift. Winning the objective rewards the whole team with Souls and spawns additional Rift Troopers. In this guide, you'll learn everything about the Unstable Rift event, including where it spawns, the mechanics involved, and some of the best strategic tips and tricks.

Spawn Time and Location

Unstable Rifts spawn above either side lane's bridge. They first spawn between 10 and 12 minutes, and subsequent spawns appear every 6 to 8 minutes. Before the Rift appears, it will first show a visual effect, and 20 seconds before spawning, the Rift becomes visible on the map, and an announcement is displayed for all players.

Capturing the Unstable Rift

To capture the Unstable Rift, players must remain inside the designated area to make progress, which is displayed in the UI at the top part of the screen. It takes 12 seconds to capture the Rift, and both teams can make progress at the same time if they both have players within the area. However, the Rift is only captured when there's only one team in the area; otherwise, it remains at 99% progress.

There are comeback mechanics that help the team that is behind in Souls capture the Unstable Rift:

  • Capture time decreases to a minimum of 6 seconds for the losing team, and increases to up to 18 seconds for the winning team.
  • The losing team receives Bullet Resist, Spirit Resist, and Debuff Resist near the Unstable Rift.

If the Unstable Rift hasn't been claimed 60 seconds after appearing, it will disappear, and neither team receives rewards. Instead, several Soul Orbs appear at the location.

Rewards

Upon capturing the Unstable Rift, the whole team receives a base reward of 1,482 Souls split equally among all team members. Soul reward increases by 222 Souls per minute for subsequent Rifts.

Additionally, 5 Rift Troopers will spawn and aid the team that captured the Rift. They have double HP and damage compared to regular Troopers, and +25% Melee and Spirit Resist. Capturing consecutive Unstable Rifts makes Rift Troopers even stronger, increasing their bonus stats.

If a team is behind in global Souls and captures the Unstable Rift, they get additional Souls distributed among the team and up to 9 extra Rift Troopers.

Tips and Tricks

Unstable Rifts are strategic objectives that require team coordination. These tips and tricks will help you come out on top:

Pick Off Enemies From Sides

Only one ally needs to remain in the capture zone to make progress on the Unstable Rift. Other team members should focus on picking out isolated enemies from flanks, as they'll be caught off guard.

Have a Numerical Advantage and Mind Your HP

Unstable Rift fights can quickly turn into a battle of attrition, where both teams trade damage until one concedes the objective due to being low on HP. Having heroes that excel at long trades or can recover HP quickly will aid you in securing Unstable Rifts during long fights. Similarly, having a numerical advantage means your team has more resources to work with and siege the enemy team out of the objective.

Push Your Lane Before Rotating to the Unstable Rift

Pushing your lane will put your team in the lead in most cases, especially during the early game, as it puts enemies at a disadvantage, where they must choose between getting Souls from Troopers and capturing the Objective.

You must make the right strategic choice depending on the game state and the Rift's spawn timer. If you can push your lane and get to the Rift before the enemy team takes it, that's a perfect scenario. Some other times, it might be best to concede the Rift in exchange for pushing the two other lanes and getting some damage on their lane Guardians.
