Build Overview

Vex's Mantrarmy

These are gun-focused Mantra builds, where the melee and gun aspects are used as a source of skill triggers (Prismatic Weaponry, Reverburnations, Bloodletter) and to stack up the damage formula.

  • All builds presented here come from theorycrafting between Ratore, LazyData and Iserrot.
    • No particular build is recommended over the other and they are all capable of even True UVH6. The gear required for them is the same and you can give all of them a try to see what resonates best. However if you really press me I'll just tell you to go play the Mortal Terror build
    • Keep in mind that in True Mode, one inevitably benefits a lot from having better-rolled gear.

Punch To Go!

I just really wanted an excuse to use Shot To Go

This variant focuses on bypassing reloads, relying on the synergies between Prismatic Weaponry, Shot To Go! and the attunement system. Fun and involved, but not everyone will prefer it since it requires getting into Tier 5 of bottom left blue tree, also known as the 'did they even test or play any of this' part of Vex's kit.

Between the builds, it has the least total power, but the usage of Shot To Go! results in a unique gameplay loop that has its own advantages.

Weapon Equip Speed on Enhancement is pretty much a requirement to use this setup effectively.

  • Capstone: Grim Reaper

LDKSMB

aka LazyData's Kill Skill Mantra Build

This variant focuses on taking the damage per mag to its limits, featuring very high peaks of damage due to the Mortal Terror triggers allowing peak performance even during one-on-one encounters. It's an excellent setup, especially for tackling high end bossing content and even True Mode, while also being very straightforward.

  • Capstone: Grim Reaper

Rainbow KSMB

Blends the kill skill setup into a more blue tree-leaning version, with access to Prismatic Weaponry for another source of Reverburnations and Bloodletter procs. Keeps kill skill stacks at a maximum of three, allowing usage of Blood Sacrifice to manually trigger them when bossing.

This setup can achieve some of the highest peaks, however is significantly more involved due to the lack of Mortal Terror and the usage of attunements to enhance Prismatic Weaponry.

Weapon Equip Speed on Enhancement is pretty much a requirement to use this setup effectively.

  • Capstone: Grim Reaper

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Excellent damage
  • Excellent survivability
  • Mantra is the only required weapon
  • The other gear required is useful on many builds
  • Mantra is a Bloomreaper (Raid Boss) drop and has high part variance

Weapons

Mantra. It's literally the only weapon needed. Get as many variants as you can find to cover all elemental bases.

  • For the Punch To Go! and Rainbow KSMB builds, you specifically also want one that has a Fire Element Mode, and another that has Corrosive Element Mode, due to the attunement system and Prismatic Weaponry.

Licensed Parts

  • Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is very strong: it enables ricochets and access to powerful enhancement effects.
  • Ripper (Charge Mag) is an extreme DPS boost, but is generally reserved for bossing due to the charge time and ammo inefficiency. The more fire rate PARTS a Mantra has, the quicker it will charge-up the Ripper magazine.
    • Mantra can roll both of these licenses at once.

Other Weapons

The only other significant weapon choices are bringing powerful underbarrels like Jakobs Shotgun Spread Launcher with you, which can be used in a panic or to deal with pesky Elemental Eater enemies.

Repkit War PaintOrder RepkitTriple Bypass

War Paint, Order Repkit, Triple Bypass are all good choices of Repkit with their own relative strengths.

Look for these effects, or combinations of them:

  • Enrage (Experimental)
  • Hard Hitter (Steroidal)
  • Elemental Affinity (Reactive)
  • Accelarator (Adrenalized)
    • Enrage is highly recommended if you're looking to maximize damage, since it will apply to all damage and be double and triple dipped by Reverburnations into Bloodletter, and can go even further if you decide to use Groundbreaker.

Ordnance Jakobs GrenadeSlippy

The 'Crit Knife' Jakobs Grenade is a powerful bossing tool that can reliably up DPS and the damage of skill procs.

Slippy is a powerful all-around choice that boasts great power on Melee Vex setups, having good mobbing applicability and boss damage. The boss damage does tend to fall a bit short due to the limited charges.

Class Mod Teen Witch Vex Class Mod

For stat rolls on any class mod, look for:

  • Melee Damage; Skill Damage; Gun Damage
  • Skill Crit Chance; Melee Crit Chance; Gun Crit Chance

Teen Witch Class Mod

This Class Mod is the staple choice: permanent Amp uptime is nigh-unbeatable as a feature on gun builds, and the item itself also has available skill rolls that benefit the setup.

+3 Corporeal; +Any distribution between the rest

  • Since there's no Blood Is Power, we don't particularly care about Grave Thirst beyond it helping minions sustain. That means it can still be a good skill to roll though, particularly if using Specters to trigger Mortal Terror on the LDKSMB setup.
  • +4 Blood Is Magic or +4 Conjunction are the remaining rolls left for maximum damage. Either or is fine if going for these, the difference is minimal.
    • Blood Is Magic is actually Skill Damage.

Firedancer Vex Class Mod

It won't make Mantra as powerful as Teen Witch does, but it can come situationally close and is arguably a better pick if you want to introduce Groundbreaker into your gameplay loop.

+5 Reverburnations; +2 Fell Inscriptions or +2 Burning Attunement

  • As much Reverburnations as possible. It's the unnegotiable sole reason to even use this.

Other Class Mods?

You can consider giving the following a try, just don't expect anything revolutionary:

Illusionist (+5 Prismatic Weaponry)

  • Sanguine Fiends is a nice skill for the remaining two points.

Avatar (+5 Shocking Attunement or +5 Burning Attunement)

  • For the remaining two points, you'd ideally want one of them into Radiant Attunement, which allows you to have four active attunements in total for Prismatic Weaponry, as long as you switch weapons/modes enough.

Shield Watts 4 DinnerSuper Soldier

Watts 4 Dinner with 150% Amp is, unsurprisingly, best in slot. Not just that, but the 25% Shock it provides can cause its own Reverburnations procs.

Super Soldier is a great choice if you're looking to try other approaches and class mod choices.

Enhancement Jakobs EnhancementRipper EnhancementMaliwan Enhancement

Quintain; Bounce Pass; Piercer

  • Very good choices with high general applicability.
  • Multistrike and Sequencer are also good, just beware that Specters can mess up the Sequencer effect.

Entropic; Devourer; Hard Charger; Free Loader; Short Circuit

  • Some of these can be extremely powerful, however the RNG and overall inconsistency can be an annoyance. Experiment to your liking.

Lame; Mixologist

  • The weaker options of the bunch, but still serviceable.

3/3 Skillcraft; 2/3 Reel Big Fist or 2/3 High Caliber

  • The skill damage and crit chance are great for Dead Ringer, Reverburnations, Bloodletter and Groundbreaker.

3/3 Skillcraft; 1/3 Reel Big Fist; 1/3 Heating Up

  • The skill damage and crit chance are great for Dead Ringer, Reverburnations, Bloodletter and Groundbreaker.
  • Heating Up adds some extra reload speed for QOL.

2/3 Reel Big Fist; 2/3 High Caliber; 1/3 Heating Up

  • Purely passive boosts to the gunshots, and nice utility in the form of reload speed to combat one of the gun's biggest drawbacks.

3/3 High Caliber; 2/3 Skillcraft

  • Piercing shots allows for double hits from the splash damage, and potentially even more from the Jakobs Ricochets. Not useful against all bosses, but extremely powerful where it works.

Specialization

Specialization 1Riddle You This
Specialization 2I Am A Gun
Specialization 3A Honed Mind
Specialization 4Bear Arms

Riddle You This; I Am A Gun; A Honed Mind; Bear Arms

  • General setup that looks to maximize damage per shot of the Mantra while also boosting our skill damage sources.

Dump any excess points into Runner, followed by Brute.

  • The Melee Damage from Runner is a multiplier for the on-hit damage of melee sources.

Other Specialization Options

  • Groundbreaker
    • Essentially an extremely powerful melee finisher after mag dumping a boss, which can trigger Reverburnations and Bloodletter.
  • The Best Defense
    • Nice damage boost that benefits all of our sources.
  • CQC
    • Mantra triggers this on hitting an enemy.
  • Contamination
    • Useful for Bloodletter.

Gameplay

Gameplay - Punch To Go!

The gameplay for this variant focuses on keeping Blight Attunement and Burning Attunement active through a weapon swap cycle, which results in increased damage coming from Prismatic Weaponry and reloads being skipped entirely through Shot To Go!.

For this, it's necessary to have one Mantra in Fire and another in Corrosive, with the rest being your preference and enemy-dependent.

  • You do not have to exclusively use those two elements. As long as you go through them in your swap cycles, the synergies are covered, meaning you should still element match against the enemy's weakness.

The swaps can be performed however you wish. Examples:

  • Shoot once (2-round burst) into an immediate swap, or shoot until empty and then swap, or do any mix of strategies you'd like. Depending on the licensed parts you have (Ripper vs. non-Ripper), different approaches will feel better.

Weapon Equip Speed and/or Shotgun Equip Speed on Enhancement are essentially mandatory rolls for this setup.

  • Be wary of the Weapon Type Equip Speed rolls (like Shotgun), they are kind of buggy and somehow slower than just Weapon Equip Speed.

Action Skill Dead Ringer

Through Coven:

  • Specters provide Crit Chance.
  • Reapers provide Health Regen and have a powerful innate taunt on enemies. They also have decent mobbing damage.

What you summon in most situations is up to you. The above effects will dictate your preferences and needs.

  • You'll usually want to use Specters for Crit Chance on bosses, since the damage boost is very welcome.
  • Specters can eat into your bleed stacks. This means you might not always want to spawn all three of them inside the boss arena.

Pace your summons so you don't waste all charges in a moment that quickly turns meaningless. You'll only be wanting to spam summons on boss fights, and even then there's some longer ones where you will want to pace them.

Grim Reaper is a big dummy, but its special effect that can spawn free Reapers is very welcome when going through zones/mobbing, since it can alleviate uses of Dead Ringer charges when used smartly.
