Build Overview

Hey everybody. Today we're going over my first of many Amon builds. And this time around, we're starting strong with my Hellshot Amon build. A build focused on mob clearing and stacking elemental damage on trash mobs and bosses alike to melt through their health. This build makes heavy use of a very involved gameplay loop of spam reloading, amp-ing through stim and ordnance spamming to synergise with the skills we pick up.

This skill heavily leverages the Force of Nature augment to prime enemies in anticipation for their eventual detonation through death or Stormcutter application. These detonations deal massive damage to the enemy and those around them, which furthers the fuel for this mass mobbing build.

This spec heavily uses the calamity tree to stack bonuses from Branch 3's Dragon's Breath, Catastrophe and Electrical Fire as well as Branch 1 bonuses like Berserk and There Is Only Red. We also have a few freedom points which you can slot in wherever you like should you so choose.

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • very fast mob clearing
  • high elemental damage
  • high synergistic playstyle
  • requires swapping ordnances to kill bosses quicker
  • requires a bit of "skill"

Alternative Playstyle

Another friend of Mobalytics, Girthquake, has a variant that leverages the Hoarcleave augment, My Touch Is Death and Slippy to have an easy to achieve damage loop. You can check the written guide here and video here!

Build Variants

Variant 1

If you want to double down on your mobbing capabilities - sinking points into Berserk and There Is Only Red will give you massive Cryo bonus damage

The Non-Negotiables

Trunk Skills

Calamity Tree:

What Burns Within - fairly self explanatory. Since we're going to spamming Dragon's Breath, boosting the damage output of this skill through incendiary damage bonuses is going to pay dividends

Tritanium Knuckles - once again, another boost to Dragon's Breath as it scales with skill damage

Wield the Storm - boost status damage (our DoTs) that we're gonna be spam inflicting onto the enemy

Metal Urge - helps to cycle our AS faster so we can keep up our prime stacking with Force of Nature

Branch 1

Berserk - Source of additional elemental damage

There Is Only Red - further boosts the damage output of Berserk by scaling our cryo damage up exponentially

Branch 3

Catastrophe - very handy and basically an always active 30% crit damage boost to our shots, since we're always going to have enemies inflicted with incendiary DoTs.

Dragon's Breath - the star of the show and how we apply some big fire DoTs to enemies. This skill adds a huge damage bonus to our first shot following an ordnance activation.

Fists of Stone - helps to cycle AS faster again. Spamming Stormcutter and hitting a minimum of 4 enemies with it will immediately give us Onslaughter again.

Electrical Fire - Since the base element of the maliwan shotun we're using is shock, this will also help us apply fire to the enemy as well. If you're using Linebacker shotgun, we can apply shock dots conversely.

Cybernetics

Get The Lead Out - since we're spam reloading in order to gain the most out of our maliwan enhancements,

Augment + Capstone:

As far as augment selection goes, we go with Force of Nature, which helps us build priming stacks which can then be detonated by Stormcutter for a big burst of damage to help with boss damage + mob clearing simultaneously.

Equipment

Weapons
Repkit & Ordnance
Utilities

Weapons

For weapon selection, having a maliwan shotgun is the crux of this build from an elemental DoT application perspective, however you can also spam Linebacker with repkit amp + Dragon's Breath proccing for some mass explosive chaos gameplay.

The Maliwan shotgun is our key to applying massive DoTs to bosses and mobs. In a perfect world, a shock + corrosive elemental roll would be ideal.

Ordnance

Sho Kunai for everyday mobbing to consistently proc your Dragon's Breath high damage shots, and swapping to Bottled Lightning will make your life easier for bossing (or any other high damage ordnance with elemental damage that you have a preference for)

Repkit

We use the Triple Bypass with the 200% amp roll and consistently spam this. Due to the effect of the triple bypass, we can maintain uptime for our Amp Shots more often than not.

Enchancement

Yet another bit of fuel to the fire that is this build. We use a legendary Maliwan enhancement with the Primed Potency effect that gives us 100% status chance for our first shot after reloatin, as well as the Transfuser effect which gives us the ability to spread our status damage to enemies nearby as well. Further fuelling the DoT spreading. Much like the plague.

Shield

We use the old reliable Firewerks shield to do some mob clearing for us while we're shooting. This shields rockets are incredibly powerful and can clear trash mobs on their own, or finish off low health ones that our DoTs didnt finish off.

Class Mod

Here's where you get a bit of choice. For optimal bossing damage, we use a Furnace COM with as many points as possible into Dragon's breath (which will boost the per shot damage output of this build by a huge margin). While you can still use the Furnace COM for mobbing with 0 issues, if you find that you're struggling to maintain uptime of Onslaughter, you can swap to a Forge Master to help you spam Stormcutter a bit more and make sure you can keep Onslaughter active as much as you can.

Specialization

Specialization 1Compounding Afflictions
Specialization 2Bear Arms
Specialization 3Overkill
Specialization 4I Am A Gun

I Am A Gun gives us a big bonus to detonations from Force of Nature + increases damage of Stormcutter as well to clear enemies in front of us

Bear Arms is very straightforward. Once again, another boost to Stormcutter

Next we have Compounding Afflictions afflictions to increase our damage to enemies that are a bit more stubborn than others and won't melt immediately from our DoTs (these enemies tend to be the chunkier enemies you can find in the vaults with multiple health bars + resistances)

The final specialisation we have is Overkill. Don't think this needs to be explained much - explosions = good AoE clearing for clustered enemies. fire one shot and kill many.

Gameplay

As i said at the start of this write up, this build heavily focuses on looping multiple different mechanics to achieve the outcome. Here's a simple step by step guide on how this build works:

  1. Shot your shotgun once and reload to get the bonuses out of your Maliwan Enhancement
  2. Pop your Triple Bypass repkit to amp your next shot
  3. Throw your Sho Kunai to proc Dragon's Breath on your next shot
  4. Shoot gun for big damage

In the interim, you can also activate your forgeskill once in order to get Berserk and There Is Only Red rolling while you're shooting enemies as well.

From there, you basically loop steps 1-4 over and over and until everyone on Kairos is dead.

Hope you guys enjoy the build. Happy hunting!

Changelog/Testing Notes

additional notes i added during my theorycrafting process

note: BiS means Best in Slot

22nd September

  • Added in Boss focused skill tree variation for players with sub optimal gear rolls

18th September

  • Tested 200% amp part with Triple Bypass. Happy with the outcome. Locking this in as BiS repkit for the build
  • Tested Linebacker shotgun + Maliwan Shotgun (Vertex/Stellenium suffixes) for mass mob clearing. Locking in as BiS for weapon choice
  • Tested a few shields. Firewerk came out on top. Locked in as BiS
  • Tested Wombo Combo AR. Synergises nicely however doesn’t receive as much benefit out of dragons breath. Still works decently for mobbing and bursting down single enemies. Can be used as an additional weapon

17th September

  • Experimented with Tempered Pyre and Twin Tempers for more consistent melee procs. Most enemies die before forgedrones can get to the enemies to proc melee refreshes so it’s somewhat of a redundant pick from a gameplay perspective. Will likely sink the points somewhere else.
  • Added in Sho Kunai as BiS ordnance slot for more consistent Dragon's Breath procs
