Build Overview

This is a level 26 build (which grows into a level 50 spec) that specifically focuses heavily on Searing Cold looping for crowd control and taking down high health enemies very quickly. Combat encounters can get very hectic at times so having a build that excels at singling out dangerous enemies and disabling them completely has massive utility.

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • single target burst damage
  • excels at crowd control
  • supports elemental damage playstyle
  • limited health regeneration capability

Skill pickup order

There’s a bit of nuance to this specific build when levelling, in that it changes a bit depending on what level you are. Prior to level 20, your build would have 5 points in Cast Iron, 5 in Destruction Engine, 5 in Bellows, 5 in Tempered Pyre and 1 in Twin Tempers. with the rest of your points being sank into permafrost as you begin to level towards 26. Reason we do this is so that we get an extra source of DPS (which admittedly doesnt scale well into late game unless you invest in a different branch that this build doesn't focus on) in the form of the forge axe summons from tempered pyre and twin tembers.

Once you hit level 26, you should respec into the following:

5 Cast Iron, 5 Destruction Engine, 5 Bellows, 5 Permafrost, 5 Reactive Armor and pick up Searing Cold and Conflangarang.

Skill explanations

Cast Iron - Gives Amon faster cooldown for forge-skills and also gun handling.. which is cool i guess. But being able to spam forge-skills more means more crowd control and more damage output on a more consistent basis

Destruction Engine - Increases Amons forge-skill damage and detonation damage which helps with whittling down enemy HP and clearing large group of enemies with Double edge/conflangarang

Bellows - Increases gun damage temporarily after activating a forge-skill to help with bursting down enemies.

Permafrost - Permafrost creates a cryo pool underneath an enemy that amon has frozen that does cryo DoT damage. However, you can also pick raging inferno instead. In saying that, frrom my gameplay testing, the action skill crit chance barely triggers making this effect more or less negligible as its not a consistent damage source. Hence why we opt for permafrost instead. If however we were using a crucible build leveraging the eternal war augment, this would be a more suitable pick. However, thats not the case for this build in particular.

Reactive Armor - As we’re going to be making heavy use of ordnances, having Reactive Armour - which restores ordnance cooldown and shield capacity upon detonation, helps a lot

Conflangarang - The capstone ability which turns Double edge into a flaming area of effect leaving behind a fire area of effect that does damage over time. Triggering detonations or damaging an enemy with conflangarang also restores its cooldown, which further helps the loop

Post level 26 skill acquisition

For the post capstone spec (after level 26), we then sink our points into the following skills in this order

  1. Executioner (for extra crit damage - which synergises nicely with our freezing)
  2. Blast Furnace (to increase damage dealt based on crit hits or detonations)
  3. Armor of Contempt (for additional survivability, as this build doesn’t have health regen investment)

From here, you have 9 points you can spend at your choosing, however a few recommendations are the following (but all depends on your chosen playstyle)

  • The Thrill (vengeance tree) - gives Amon health regeneration
  • Wrath of Nature (vengeance tree) - if you want to double down on the cryo status damage potential
  • Lightning Rod (cybernetics tree) - since this build has a crit focus, lightning rod boosts our potential damage output by giving a chance to spawn a damage amplified lightning bolt on a critical hit
  • Impetus (calamity tree) - another potential sustain skill to give Amon more consistent shield regeneration on kill, outside of what we have already through reactive armour

Equipment

Weapons
Repkit & Ordnance
Utilities

Weapons:

As this is an early game build, the main focus of builds like this should be to just experiment and find weapons that you enjoy using. However as a general rule of thumb, high fire rate weapons with elemental damage (ideally cryo) and solid crit damage stats works nicely with this build as it can help strip the armour of enemies and also freeze them, which helps to proc permafrost to do additional damage.

Shield:

Once again, personal preference. However shields/armour with damage reduction parts are always useful to help with survivability.

Repkit:

Repkits that give lifesteal, ordnance cooldown or elemental damage are always preferred. To assist with both survivability and

Ordnance:

throwing knife ordnance with the damage amp payload part - which increases the damage taken by the target that was hit with the throwing knife

Class mod:

As the game has only just released, we haven’t seen the full extent of the class mod potential for Amon just yet, however keep an eye out for useful passive stats on the COM that boost things like crit damage, elemental damage and action skill cooldown.

Enhancement:

Any manufacturer bonus aligned with the guns you use regularly.

Gameplay

General Build Overview

Explosions and splash damage is the name of the game here. Amon’s skill tree brings a mechanic known as Priming and Detonating which you can see on the card. Priming is triggered by damaging an enemy with a forge-skill which enables you to then detonate which creates an explosion to deal additional damage to the primed enemy. In order to trigger the detonations, you either kill the primed enemy, OR, damage them with a forge-skill. For this tree, this refers to the Double Edge forge-skill, where Amon merges his cryo and fire axe together and throws it in front of him like a boomerang, dealing damage to enemies on the throw out, and on its return back to Amons meaty hands.

This build specifically focuses heavily on forge-skill looping for crowd control and taking down high health enemies very quickly. Combat encounters can get very hectic at times so having a build that excels at singling out dangerous enemies and disabling them completely has massive utility.

The star of this build is the searing cold augment which gives Amon’s forgeaxe the ability to instantly freeze non boss enemies, meaning that they cant damage you while you dish out damage and take them off the field permanently. We also leverage weapons with high elemental damage to increase our DPS output, as well as a throwing knife ordnance with the damage amp payload part - which increases the damage taken by the target that was hit with the throwing knife

To put the way this gameplay loop works simply, we freeze the badass/enemy to be focused on, which primes them, and then we throw a knife at them to make them take more damage from the forge-skill ability we’re about to throw at their heads which is either the double edge ability or conflangarang, depending on what level you are during this build. If for some reason the enemy is still alive, we burst them down with our primary weapons to finish them off.

By picking up skills like permafrost, we also create a freezing area of effect around enemies which can freeze other enemies or at the very least, slow them down from rushing you on mass.
