Now that you know the best champions for LoL, get the best champions for Teamfight Tactics with our TFT tier list or Wild Rift with our Wild Rift tier list.

We also have a best decks tier list for LoR and an agent tier list for Valorant.

Methodology TLDR:

  • Our first tier list aimed at lower ELO, specifically Bronze up to high Plat/low Diamond. Our second tier list is for high ELO, aimed at Diamond 2 and above.
  • Our experts curate these picks and are an indicator of the champion’s inherent strength when played at the highest level. For many of the user base, this information isn’t super relevant for their games but provides invaluable insight into the game itself.

Let’s say you’re debating between learning and climbing with Jax (A-tier | Simple) or Rengar (A-tier | Severe) – you’re going to want to go with Jax. Why? This is because Jax has a lower skill floor and would require less games to play at an A-Tier level in solo Queue. If you tried to pick up Rengar, you wouldn’t get the full value of A-tier until after about 15 matches of practice whereas with Jax, you would get that full 15 every time you play him.

Expert pick commentary

LoL Tier List feature example

Top –Darius

  • Darius will continue to dominate the top lane this patch after shooting straight back up in popularity recently with a fantastic success rate across every single rank.
  • Hehas the ability to completely destroy certain matchups and he’s one of the best top lane picks in the game to snowball and carry games with, as he can outplay multiple enemies against the odds in all sorts of situations, making him impossible to shut down.

Jungle – Kha’Zix

  • Kha’Zix has always been an amazing solo carry jungler to main for as long as he has existed, and when he’s strong like he is right now, his ability to 1v9 is unquestionable.
  • If you enjoy being a snowballing high damage mobile assassin there’s not too many better picks to play right now, because if the bug gets fed early, it’s often free LP!

Mid – Ahri

  • Ahri continues to be one of the most popular and one of the most successful mid lane picks you can play so far in Split 3. She’s incredibly versatile, and is the perfect champion to main as she fits into pretty much any draft or team comp.
  • She’s got mobility, catch potential, high burst, fantastic roaming and many more strengths to bring to your solo queue games. So if you aren’t already playing her, why not?!

Bottom – Jinx

  • Jinx has been in the S tier for a few patches again now but this patch with the rework to Yun Tal Wild Arrows we could see her rise up into a GOD tier pick if it proves as strong as it sounds.
  • The item now gives attack speed by default, but also brings an attack speed steroid to the table along with stacking crit and tons of damage. So it could be the perfect item for her that might send her over the edge!

Support – Braum

  • Braum is a beautiful beast of a support right now and although he’s not quite as blind pickable as some other S tier picks, if you get him in the right games it just feels super easy to win with!
  • He’s an anti-melee machine that can completely dominate fights from as early as level 1 invades, big 2v2s bot or huge teamfights in the lategame with his passive stuns, crowd control, and fantastic peel too, so give him a go!

Good (B-tier) Blitzcrank, Maokai, Morgana, Renata Glasc, Shaco, Tahm Kench, Vel’koz, Xerath, Zilean, Zyra

Top – Riven

  • Riven is one of those One trick pony picks that can completely carry any game in the right hands, and when she’s in a good spot in the meta, she’s often one of the most dominant champions you can come up against.
  • She takes a lot of practice to play perfectly, with pretty much everything in her kit needing to be mastered. From the ‘basics’ of weaving in your auto’s around your Q’s, to all the different animation cancelling mechanics and combos, that you can pull off, if you know what you’re doing.

Jungle – Graves

  • He is the ultimate solo queue snowballing pubstomping machine in the jungle, and when he’s strong, he’s instantly the most contested pick in the game, especially at higher ranks.
  • Graves just packs some ridiculous damage which allows him to put his teammates on his back and solo carry super often, so if you aren’t playing him right now, it might be a good time to ban him!

Mid – Katarina

  • Her buffs this patch might just send her straight back into being OP again, as they have reduced the cooldown on her E and her Ultimate at the same time!
  • Katarina one tricks have always been scary to come up against, especially in high elo, but with these buffs we could see her soar straight back to her best again, so keep an eye out for her!

Bottom – Caitlyn

  • Caitlyn has returned as one of the most contested picks in the bot lane this patch so far, and she’s dealing a TON of damage with her build path of Collector and Infinity Edge!
  • From huge ranged headshots from her passive, to trap and net combos, to long range ultimate snipes, there’s a lot to like about Caitlyn right now, and in high elo, those top players are making her look completely broken!

Support – Lulu

  • Lulu is the perfect support pick to play this split as she works so well with a ton of the top ADC picks you can play with.
  • Recently she’s already been heavily contested in high elo, as when she’s viable, she’s often just too strong in the right hands with her point and click polymorph alongside fantastic peel and protection. She turns those OP Hypercarries into godlike unkillable machines, so if you havent played her already, give her a go!

Disclaimer #1: If a champion isn’t on our LoL Tier List, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t climb with them. You’ll just have to put in more effort to get similar results as our Optimal, Great, and Good choices for climbing.
Disclaimer #2: This list is meant to evaluate the champions that we believe are best for climbing Solo Queue. Although there can certainly be some overlap, we are NOT looking to name the champions that are the best in pro-play or organized, competitive 5-on-5. This is why champs that require a ton of team coordination such as Ryze, may not be included or ranked highly.

As always, we welcome all discussion and feedback.
