Ye Shunguang is a Physical Attack Agent which has access to "Honed Edge", a unique element that only "Void Hunter" level characters are given.
More than her element is the ludicrous amount of damage she can pump out, as she:
Even with her raw power, Ye Shunguang is actually quite simple to play. There is, however, a lot to her kit, and understanding it in detail does go a long way at making her the powerhouse that she really is.
Honed Edge is an extension of the Physical element (much like how Frost is to Ice, or Auric Ink is to Ether), with the exact same effects: it triggers Assault when Anomaly is built, Physical DMG Bonus applies to it, as do Physical RES related effects, be it for anomaly, damage or Daze.
All of Ye Shunguang's damage is, by default, Physical, but as she's of the Honed Edge element, none of her regular attacks are able to build Physical Anomaly despite doing matching elemental damage. When she enters the Enlightened Mind state though, all of her Physical damage is then converted into Honed Edge and Anomaly can be built up.
This lack of Anomaly build-up does mean she has lower Decibel generation from Attribute Anomaly and Disorder bonuses, but on the flipside Honed Edge has a unique property that distinguishes it from the other elements.
When an attack deals Honed Edge damage, it will have a 50% increased Miasma Shield shred rate. As an Attacker, Ye Shunguang has to suffer through Miasma Shield's DEF increase, but this is less of an issue as she can purify it a lot faster than other Agents.
Entering the Enlightened Mind state may be required for her to deal Honed Edge damage, but it has far more benefits than just that.
When in combat, a dedicated display will track Ye Shunguang's Qingming Sword Force. This consists of:
As she lands attacks, the gauge fills. Once full, it converts into 1 Qingming Sword Force point and resets, with the process repeating until the 6-point maximum is reached upon which the gauge will no longer fill.
Although it isn't possible to fill the gauge with attacks, there are ways to bypass it entirely. Namely with:
The last criteria is dependent on Additional Ability: Shadowtrace Flight being active, which needs Support or Defence characters in the team.
Note that it is upon activating an Ether Veil, so characters that extend it (like
Lucia or
Yidhari) would not trigger the Qingming Sword Force point generation effect through it.
Building points this way when already at 6 Qingming Sword Force points allows Ye Shunguang to exceed the standard cap. Any excess becomes a "Bearer" stack, with an upper limit of 3, raising the true maximum stored points limit to nine.
With 6 Qingming Sword Force points in stock, Ye Shunguang can enter the Enlightened Mind State. This can be done in one of multiple ways:
This Entry Skill is a feature introduced with Ye Shunguang and
Zhao, where swapping into a character once a specific criteria is met will use the ability. In Ye Shunguang's case, she doesn't need to be swapped into and can cast it even while the active character, by holding down the Basic Attack button.
Whichever way is used, entering the Enlightened Mind state will convert the 6 Qingming Sword Force points into 6 Enlightened Mind Qingming Sword Force points. These are similar but distinct in their use, as during the Enlightened Mind state, Qingming Sword Force cannot be built nor can Energy be generated or spent.
Instead, Ye Shunguang's Energy bar will max out and begin to decay, being indicative of a 16s timer that tracks how long is left in the Enlightened Mind state.
This timer only decreases while she is on-field (inactive but on-field will still reduce it), pausing only when she fully retreats to the back lines.
Once the Enlightened Mind state ends - either by timing out or when using certain skills that exit the state - any Bearer stacks built prior will convert back into Qingming Sword Force points.
The timer doesn't just track the Enlightened Mind state, but also Ether Veil: Verdict. It's this effect that makes Ye Shunguang as strong as she is, as for as long as she is on-field, all enemies will suffer a "Vulnerability" effect that enforces their Stun DMG Multiplier at all times.
As long as Enlightened Mind is active, Ether Veil: Verdict stays in effect.
There are some limitations to this however:
Qingyi's
Core Passive: Eternal Seasons or
Dialyn Malicious Complaint) will be inherited by the Vulnerability effect. When in the Enlightened Mind state, the converted Qingming Sword Force points UI shifts and turns white, becoming a resource that can be used to enhance or cast abilities.
Ye Shunguang's moveset also completely changes between states, with her having a set of skills in the Enlightened Mind state (further divided into airborne and grounded stances) and another in her standard state.
As soon as she enters the Enlightened Mind state, Ye Shunguang is considered airborne, but some attacks (or merely waiting/doing nothing) will put her in the grounded stance.
There are 2 airborne stance Basic Attacks:
If there are at least 2 Qingming Sword Force points available, then Sunderlight Annihilation will consume them to deal increased damage and grants a "Culmination" stack, which acts as a substitute Qingming Sword Force point for one of Ye Shunguang's Enlightened Mind state EX Special attacks.
There's 3 ground stance Basic Attacks, all triggered with the Basic Attack button:
Skyward Ascent is not the only way of going airborne however, as the Enlightened State EX Specials can do so too.
As Ye Shunguang has no Energy in the Enlightened Mind state, her Specials and EX Specials work differently than normal, with her having 3 variants:
Clean Exit, despite it being satisfying to pull off, will rarely see use. Its ability to shortcut to Sunderlight Maximum isn't particularly useful as doing so takes too much time (see "Combos" in the Additional Tips section for more) would misalign Qingming Sword Force points.
This is because Soaring Light is a way to quickly return to the airborne stance without needing to go through Splitting Currents, all the while doing significantly more damage than Skyward Ascent.
The result is that every Enlightened Mind state burst tends to follow the shell of:
Once finished, the goal shifts to trying to build Qingming Sword Force points as fast as possible to get back to the Enlightened Mind state and do it all again.
Aside from Basic Attacks and EX Specials, Ye Shunguang also has:
As unique Enlightened Mind state-only skills.
The Quick Assist and Assist Follow-Up are rarely, if ever worth using, with time better spent on other moves and no real opportunity to swap out of Ye Shunguang while she is in the Enlightened Mind state to begin with.
The Chain Attack however is quite good, with decent multipliers, high Decibel generation and always placing Ye Shunguang in the airborne stance after use. It has an extra feature where even if the Enlightened State timer has ended, Ye Shunguang will not exit the state until the skill is fully cast, being useful to occasionally extend the state while doing good damage.
Ultimate: Cleaving Heavens is the greatest of the lot, with one of the highest single DMG multipliers in the game, clocking in at 6168.7%.
Although this can only be used in the Enlightened Mind state, it immediate ends it, functioning as a replacement to Return to Dust. It doesn't function like a regular Ultimate either, as no matter how many Decibels are available it cannot be used, instead being a free-to-use skill that is unlocked when Ultimate: Chasing Storms is used beforehand - specifically when it consumes Decibels (so
Dialyn's Ultimate conversion does not count).
As for her non-Enlightened Mind state skills, most are rather straightforward. Whatever gives the highest Qingming Sword Force gauge generation is often going to be the best option.
There are 2 standard Basic Attack variants:
Swiftedge: a regular 4-part Basic Attack string that makes up the bread and butter of Ye Shunguang's time out of Enlightened Mind state.
Cloudstream Sword Will: a flurry of ranged blade shockwaves that hit enemies from afar, triggered by holding the Basic Attack button.
Although it does look stylish, the terrible damage and Qingming Sword Force build-up rate from Cloudstream Sword Will means that it's never worth using.
If at over 60 Energy, Ye Shunguang can use EX Special: Gale Suppression, a ridiculously strong hitting skill with a 2357.6% damage multiplier and that builds 1 Qingming Sword Force point the moment it begins casting.
This is one of the fastest ways for her to generate points, so it's always worth using when available, although it does have a very long animation lock meaning it is best accompanied by a character switch to a Stunner/Defender/Support to make efficient use of time.
Without enough Energy though, Ye Shunguang can use Special: Guiding Tides. This has a Perfect Dodge property and is significantly better than her Dodge Counter in damage and Qingming Sword Force generation if the Perfect Dodge is triggered, making it a useful skill if managed properly.
There isn't anything all that noteworthy about her Dodges. They may be used every so often while trying to build-up Qingming Sword Force points, but Guiding Tides is superior to Dodge Counter: Swallow Strike.
On the flipside, Ye Shunguang does have an alternate Dash, accessed by holding instead of pressing the Dodge button and leading to faster movement as she rides her floating sword case.
Much like her Dodge options, most her Assist abilities are fairly underwhelming overall.
Quick Assists and Assist Follow-Ups behave as expected, with no particularly redeemable qualities. The former is triggered naturally based on team synergy (like after a
Zhao Ether Veil activation, or for
Astral Voice upkeep), while the latter can be situationally useful for Decibel generation but rarely worth using owing to its poor Qingming Sword Force generation.
The one exception is Ye Shunguang’s Entry Skill, which is classified as an Assist. It deals decent damage and activating it is treated identically to using a Quick Assist, meaning any effects that trigger off Quick Assists will also apply here.
While the Enlightened Mind state Chain Attack was useful, the standard variant, Smite the Wicked, isn't all that great.
In terms of its multipliers it isn't all that much worse than Chain Attack: Lure Thunder, but it is also incredibly slow to cast and has shockingly poor Qingming Sword Force generation.
As the Enlightened Mind state Chain Attack also forces the airborne stance, doing 2 of them leads to a Sunderlight Annihilation auto-cast, which even without any Qingming Sword Force point enhancement still helps.
So it can be used if Decibels are on high demand, but otherwise time is better spent on Basic Attacks for Qingming Sword Force.
Last is Ultimate: Chasing Storms. As previously mentioned, it generates 6 Qingming Sword Force points and immediately places Ye Shunguang in the Enlightened Mind state, being one of the primary methods for her to access it all the while doing a lot of damage (which benefits from Ether Veil: Verdict's Vulnerability in full).
By itself it's a strong skill, but when it's cast using Decibels, Ultimate: Cleaving Heaven can be used to end the current instance of the Enlightened Mind state, with both combined having a DMG Multiplier value of over 10000%!

Ye Shunguang's Core Passive: Burning Clarity outlines the Qingming Sword Force, Enlightened Mind state, Bearer stack and Ether Veil: Verdict behaviours, but it also has the added benefit of providing the "Unity" buff, which is applied upon entering the battlefield and is active at all times.
By default this gives a 30% increase to CRIT Rate and 25% DMG Bonus to all of Ye Shunguang's attacks, with it being further enhanced by Mindscapes.
Core Passive
Basic Attack |
Ultimate
EX Special
Assist
DodgeAs is standard practice, prioritising
Core Passive is the way to go. Levelling it increases the CRIT Rate and DMG Bonus that it provides via the Unity buff, in addition to higher Base ATK and CRIT Rate from it's A to F nodes.
From there,
Basic Attack and
Ultimate are the most important. Almost all of Ye Shunguang's Enlightened Mind state burst is derived from Basic Attacks, with Ultimate: Chasing Storms and Ultimate: Cleaving Heavens each having such absurd multipliers that when combined can match or even exceed a full combo's worth of damage.
If need be, prioritise Basic Attacks as over the course of a long fight they will take up a greater proportion of damage, but both are very important to level.
EX Special then follows owing to the damage from Soaring Light and the occasional out-of-state Gale Suppression casts that add up and contribute a fair bit to the total damage contribution.
As Ye Shunguang's Entry Skill: Illuminating Darkness scales with
Assist damage, it's something that should be levelled so as to not miss out on its burst, although it is comparatively lower than other skills.
Dodge however, can be safely left at 1. Almost all of Ye Shunguang's attacks leave her fully invulnerable and she has no Dodge Counters in the Enlightened Mind state, so it'd rarely ever see use that would justify investment into it.
Ye Shunguang's Signature W-Engine is one of the strongest single weapons in the game, with a balanced distribution of bonuses and the added benefit of having the highest Base ATK in the game, tied with
Hailstorm Shrine and
Qingming Birdcage.
On the other hand, even if not available some of the alternatives are not too far behind and can be competitive, putting Ye Shunguang at a decent spot for her W-Engine selection.
Cloudcleave Radiance (P1) provides:
There isn't much to comment on Ye Shunguang's Signature W-Engine other than it having incredibly high bonuses. Although its DMG and CRIT DMG bonuses rely on Ether Veil activation, every Enlightened Mind state will trigger Ether Veil: Verdict.
With how long the buffs last for, other than the lead-up to the first Enlightened Mind state, this will have full uptime in fights and need no active management whatsoever.
It is still at least 20% better off than all other P1 alternatives merely due to how obscenely good its values are. The fact it also gives RES Ignore, a relatively unsaturated bonus, as well as balacing both CRIT DMG and DMG Bonus helps it even further.
Severed Innocence (P1) provides:
As far as S-Rank alternatives go, Severed Innocence is by far and away the best pick. Although the raw amount of CRIT DMG it offers is starting to get to ridiculous levels, the complete lack of CRIT Rate makes it particularly good for Ye Shunguang.
Between her Core Passive's 30% CRIT Rate bonus, 19.4% base CRIT Rate and the 20% from
White Water Ballad, she can only afford up to 12 CRIT Rate substats before overcapping - and that's without
Woodpecker Electro 2-piece effects!
The result is a W-Engine that is surprisingly easy to build around. It does need some degree of active management, as regular Specials (not EX Specials!) must be used between Enlightened Mind states to maintain 2 stacks, it's plenty good even at a single stack.
The Brimstone (P1) provides:
Even at only P1, Brimstone beats out all limited S-Rank W-Engines besides Severed Innocence (yes, even
Heartstring Nocturne). Despite its low Base ATK, since the majority of Ye Shunguang's burst in the Enlightened Mind state is done via Basic Attacks, she is able to build and sustain its stacks very easily.
With ideal play there is some pre-building done prior to entering the Enlightened Mind state, and the lengthy Ultimate: Cleaving Heavens animation does demand slight combo routing changes (namely using Soaring Light before the final Sunderlight Maximum), but regardless of how its handled, it'd win out.
When dupes are on the table though, its value skyrockets. A P5 Brimstone wouldn't even be 10% worse than Cloudcleave Radiance, and once team damage is factored in the actual difference in total team contribution between the two is even lower.
Granted P5 is a hefty investment, but even at P2 it would already be superior than Severed Innocence, making it a highly competitive option.
Starlight Engine (P5) provides:
For F2P, Brimstone would be a superior option by a long shot, but for F2P A-Rank weapons, Starlight Engine is the clear winner. Although it would be worse than both Brimstone and limited S-Rank W-Engines, it does have decent synergy with Ye Shunguang.
As her Entry Skill: Illuminating Darkness is considered as activating a Quick Assist, it counts for Starlight Engine's buff effect trigger, ensuring that almost every single Enlightened Mind state benefits in full from its bonus.
It can fall off if double Chain Attacks or combos that include grounded stance Basic Attacks are used, and it does demand standard Quick Assists before Ultimate casts (as they bypass the Entry Skill), but it's still a valid option nonetheless.
D4 - CRIT DMG | ATK %
D5 - Physical DMG Bonus | ATK % | PEN Ratio
D6 - ATK %
Ye Shunguang is rather flexible with her approach to stat choices.
For D4, both CRIT DMG and ATK % are valid options. The amount of ATK % substats and whether or not a 2-piece ATK % set is used will influence which wins out owing to saturation. Given that many bosses provide CRIT DMG bonuses as part of stage effects (e,g, Defiler Judgement, UCC Disintegration, Thrall Stun), ATK % is likely to win out but not by much.
D5 is highly dependent on the encounter. PEN Ratio is by far and away the superior choice, especially when paired wih a 2-piece
Puffer Electro, but Primordial Nightmare is a boss with significantly reduced Base DEF. This lowers its value and makes Physical DMG Bonus or ATK % be the superior option, again which is best riding on saturation.
D6 has ATK % be the only available pick, making it an easy decision.
The 4-piece pick has a very clear winner, being
White Water Ballad.
It is a set tailor made for Ye Shunguang, providing 20% CRIT Rate and 10% Combat ATK with no active maintenance required and far surpasses all other sets.
As for 2-piece, it follows the same criteria as for stats: if against most bosses, then
Puffer Electro's PEN Ratio is best. If against Primordial Nightmare or low DEF bosses, then
Branch & Blade Song's CRIT DMG wins out, however many other sets (
Fanged Metal,
Hormone Punk and
Astral Voice) still do fine.
Ye Shunguang's teams are rather flexible. Her ideal team would be:
Ye Shunguang |
Dialyn |
Zhao The 3 have particularly good synergy that skyrockets total damage potential.
Dialyn's Stun DMG Multiplier increase from her Malicious Complaint applies to Ye Shunguang's Ether Veil: Verdict, and her Ultimate conversion gives free Enlightened State activations. With Overwhelmingly Positive's DMG Bonus and a potential
Yesterday Calls CRIT DMG buff on top, she's a very strong support regardless of Daze application.
Zhao on the other hand has very low field-time commitments and provides strong all around buffs (especially with
Half-Sugar Bunny) while being the only non-Rupture related Agent that can supply Ether Veil at the time of their release, supplying Ye Shunguang with constant Qingming Sword Force points as a result.
This team is miles above any other for Ye Shunguang, but honestly any combination can work:
Trigger could be used, with her Stun DMG Multiplier increase and DEF Shred from
Spectral Gaze being particularly useful.
Ju Fufu has decent buff value and as Ye Shunguang uses 2 Ultimates for every 3,000 Decibels spent, her 300 Decibel refund has double the value.
Seed can take a pseudo-support slot. Although she won't gain much Steel Charge from Ye Shunguang, she can sit back and conserve resources for in-stun burst while still providing decent buffs.
Nicole,
Astra Yao,
Caesar are all solid options. Anything that has applicable buffs does well.
Ye Shunguang does have some preferences: she likes field time and the 210% Stun DMG Multiplier cap on Ether Veil: Verdict means that some characters, like
Qingyi, don't have much of a place.
In general though, one could run
Pulchra,
Lucy,
Rina and still do fine.
While any team that doesn't have either Dialyn or Zhao (ideally both) will suffer, Ye Shunguang's raw power level, lack of care for Stuns and independent gameplan approach means that it doesn't matter all that much, with many comps performing well.
Dreambound Self provides:
This is a decently strong Mindscape, with the immediate 6 Qingming Sword Force points often allowing for use of 1 extra use of the Enlightened Mind state over the course of a run of Deadly Assault, or much faster burst for Shiyu Defence and daily tasks.
The 10% DMG Bonus is rather low for a Mindscape, albeit nice to have, and the 20% DEF Shred is quite a significant gain as stats can be so inflated with Ye Shunguang that an alternate modifier that is mostly unsaturated goes a long way.
It should be noted that by default, PEN Ratio with
Puffer Electro would still be the superior choice over Physical DMG Bonus or ATK % for D5 unless there are other DEF Shred/Ignore effects that increase it further.
Light & Shadow provides:
The quality of life increase that increased Bearer stacks gives is hard to quantify, as with proper resource management it isn't necessary. The ability to pre-stack Qingming Sword Force points beyond 3 and still being able to open with Ultimates however, can open up slightly different routes and makes it much easier to push for additional Enlightened Mind states against certain bosses.
What makes this such a tremendously good Mindscape though is the Culmination changes paired with the absurd 40% DEF Shred to her Enlightened Mind state EX Special and Ultimate: Cleaving Heavens.
Considering Cleaving Heavens has a DMG Multiplier of 6168.7% the DEF Shred on it is a sizeable increase. Had this been all, the DEF Shred being extended to EX Special: Soaring Light wouldn't matter much, but its hold input interaction with Qingming Sword Force points changes this.
It is almost never worthwhile to expend Qingming Sword Force points on extending Soaring Light, with Annihiliation and Maximum being far more effective uses of the resource. Culmination stacks are used only to return to the airborne stance and some minor damage at the end of combos.
With combos now ending with at least 6+ Culmination stacks, there is now little reason to not consume all of them with Soaring Light, increasing its DMG Multipplier from 352.7% to 2116.2%. While not every Enlightened Mind state would end with Ultimate: Cleaving Heavens, they all will end with Soaring Light, yielding a stupendous increase in total damage output over the course of a fight.
As each Qingming Sword Force point consumed generates 1 Culmination stack on top of the ones generated by Annihilation, it is also possible to sneak in additional uses of Soaring Light before Maximum or slightly extending it with hold inputs prior to the very end, so as to use up all available stacks for the most damage.
Note that with the extra DEF Shred, PEN Ratio and
Puffer Electro are no longer an optimal pick even for regular DEF bosses.
Together Into The Dust provides:
By itself, M4 is alright. The 1,000 Decibel boost can lead to more accelerated rotations and when paired with M1 makes it almost guaranteed that an additional Enlightened Mind state will take place, but the real gain comes with the Stun DMG Multiplier cap changes.
When it comes to "anti-shilling" Ye Shunguang, giving enemies excessively high Stun DMG Multipliers is the way. This is already the case in some fights, with her underperforming vs The Thrall even when compared to element neutral teams (e.g.
Yixuan or even
Evelyn).
M4 removes that possibility, with a massive increase to the Stun DMG Multiplier cap.
Dialyn's Stun DMG Multiplier increase now applies in full even to 200% Stun DMG Multiplier enemies, and her M2 24/7 Hotline becomes even more valuable. The same is true for
Ju Fufu's M1 Super Scary Little Tiger or
Trigger's M1 Sharpened Senses.
For most fights, M4 won't do much, but for the few that have high Stun DMG Multipliers or for players that have other character Mindscapes, it's a great benefit, enabling the potential for higher performance and effectively insuring the character against certain types of future anti-shill.
Lantern Wish provides:
The way M6 works is that it introduces a new stack mechanic, "Lantern Wish". Whenever 3 are built, rather than doing a 2322.7% DMG Multiplier EX Special: Return to Dust, a 6168.7% DMG Multiplier Ultimate: Cleaving Heaven's is used instead, with both of these getting a flat 1500% DMG multiplier bonus on top.
Over the course of a 3 minute fight, one can expect this to yield around 3-4 replacements.
Having a minimum 1500% DMG multiplier bonus on every Enlightened State (adding up to 15000% for 10 uses) and then another 15384% over the course of a fight totals more than 30000% in DMG multiplier gain.
It may be very expensive to get to this point, but when compared to most other characters' M6s, it is an incredibly strong Mindscape.
Ye Shunguang's Combos are done irrespective of Stun, instead being tied to each Enlightened Mind state. There are 2 primary variants that are worth using:
Standard Variant:
Fast Variant:
The only difference between these is whether or not the airborne stance Basic Attacks (Sunderlight) get used. Most fights will often see a mix of both: the Standard Variant is used most often, but if there isn't enough time left in a fight to get all remaining uses of the Enlightened Mind state, or there are upcoming boss mechanics that would interfere with the burst, the Fast Variant takes precedence.
There is also the opportunity to further extend these, ideally with a single or double Chain Attack or by doing a full grounded Basic Attack: Splitting Currents string after Sunderlight Maximum.
Although Chain Attacks are often worth doing for Decibels, Splitting Currents isn't. It would be more damage, but the longer time commitment means it tends to come at the cost of an Enlightened Mind state over the course of a fight which erases any short term gains.
It can still be useful to do near the end of fights or when the time allows for it, but often only if the route would accommodate its slower execution.
