BIGGEST Secrets WoW Forever Players Have Discovered So Far!

Overview

Feral druids becoming snakes. A level 17 Deadmines ring that comes online at level 60. A new secret Mage item to chase that points to a potentially new way to play the class! These are some of the new and exciting things that Blizzard have begun baking into WoW Forever!

‘Insignificant’ or ‘useless’ may be the first words that springs to mind when you happen upon a new scroll or breadcrumb in the latest iteration of World of Warcraft but, being true to their word, Blizzard have put an emphasis on players needing to rediscover what the game has to offer.

Here are three of my favourite discoveries so far!

Blade of Silverlaine

You would be forgiven to discredit the Mage’s new comprehension skill as being nothing but mere filler and fluff. Players have been deciphering scrolls and revealing some fun, but rather underwhelming results. That was until some players began to discover the Scroll of The Saber.

The tooltip for this one reads:

"Use on the blade of Silverlaine to create a powerful weapon."

Now, for those of you sharper WoW heads out there, you will know that Baron Silverlaine is a boss encounter in Shadow Fang Keep, a dungeon heavily linked with Worgen’s, the Undead and evil shadow magic. Players began grinding this instance and sure enough it has been discovered that a new item is in Baron Silverlaine’s loot pool, The Blade of Silverlaine.

Much to the elation of anyone lucky enough to see this weapon drop and be in possession of the aforementioned Scroll of the Saber, can combine the two to create an entirely new and very intriguing weapon...

The Cold Flame Saber

The Cold Flame Saber is a level 21 weapon that possesses a 2 second attack speed; nothing too exciting at first glance. However, it’s on equip effect is something quite astounding:

Your melee attacks deal 98 additional Fire damage against frozen targets.

This juxtapositioned elemental damage combo is not really something we’re too familiar with in World of Warcraft, especially given that classes talent trees usually tend to just double down on doing increasingly more damage of the same elemental type. So, that begs the questions:

Why on earth would a caster, like a Mage, want to use this weapon?

OR

Why would a melee class use this weapon when they aren’t freezing enemies?

With that in mind, would it work on a Survival Hunter? Or perhaps a Frost Mage build? Or what if a warrior was to take this in tandem with a Frost Mage in the party?

Keen-eyed players will have noticed that Frost Mages once again possess the Wrath of The Lich King talent Fingers of Frost. Its a huge kicker in the Frost Mage’s toolkit as you can see below:

Fingers of Frost also scales with spell power so there is a real opening here to do some serious work with the fire proc on the Cold Flame Saber.

However, it doesn’t stop there. This puzzle does get a little deeper. There is also a scroll called “Imbue Ice Knife”.

This imbues daggers with an effect that creates a chance to freeze targets when you hit them.

Put those pieces together and things get spicy:

  • The Cold Flame Saber deals bonus Fire damage to frozen targets.
  • Frost Mage has mechanics involving frozen targets.
  • Imbue Ice Knife can potentially freeze enemies through melee attacks.
  • Suddenly, a Mage has a reason to use a melee weapon.

And this is just one class. What if the warrior was to use this in a party of players with freezing mechanics built into their talents? We could see some very interesting experiments emerging in the coming days and weeks, especially with Blizzard patching and rebalancing the talent trees so often.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if there were more class specific combos hidden away waiting for us to discover!

First Mate Band

Bleary-eyed, late one night during yet another Deadmines run First Mate Band dropped from Mr. Smite.

On face value, this doesn't look particularly strong. I encourage you to take a closer look at the set bonus...

A chance on melee swing to become Angry, increasing Strength by 50 for 10 seconds, plus 20 Strength.

The First Mate Band is part of a set with the Band of The Better Half:

A much more powerful ring, I'm sure you'll agree. And it should be! It's an iLvL 70 item and requires level 60 to equip.

This means that Blizzard have intentionally created a scenario where an item you can discover extremely early in your character progression can become playstyle definingly useful at the end game!

That means Blizzard may have created a situation where an item you can discover extremely early — potentially in one of the first dungeons you encounter — could still be useful much later in the game.

The question is, where does the second ring drop?

My guess is that it could come from a raid or potentially one of the level 60 dungeons as an extremely rare drop.

There's also potentially a lore angle here.

The name Band of the Better Half makes it sound like these two rings could belong to a pair? Perhaps someone's spouse or another important character. Once we know where the item comes from, there could be an interesting story attached to it.

The set gives you 44 Strength in total, with another 50 Strength when the Angry effect procs.

That's potentially 94 Strength during the proc, which could create some serious burst potential!

The most interesting part of this entire discovery is the fact that that something you found in the Deadmines while leveling could eventually become relevant when you're raiding at level 60!

Fang Armor Set for Druids

This is one of the most aesthetically cool discoveries in WoW Forever so far.

Whilst wandering around Stormwind one night, I spotted what looked exactly like one of the vipers from Wailing Caverns.

I assumed that it was someone's pet. I quickly realised it was in fact actual player rocking their very own snakeskin suit!

If you're a Feral Druid, you're going to be delighted and wanting to run the Wailing Caverns alot becuase if you collect the five-piece Fang set from Wailing Caverns, you get both the bonus and the ability to transform yourself into a Viper of the Fang!

Dream Venom, the 5-piece set bonus, gives you a chance to stun targets for 1 second which is a really strong touch for such an early game set!

WoW Classic Senior Game Designer Aidan “Zirene” Moon confirmed the different snake appearances, explaining:

“The snake is a different color for each Druid race, and when you prowl/stealth you slink down to the ground and slither”

Feral Druids have the colour of their viper transformation dictated by the colour of their character and, as if it wasn't already cool enough, when you enter prowl, you lower to the floor and slither like an actual snake. A small detail but as a non-druid player, I don't think I've ever been more envious of another class!

So now the big question is:

What else is out there?

What have Blizzard added for Warlocks? Warriors? Hunters? What other strange item combinations are waiting to be discovered? You can bet your last piece of copper that there's much more!
