Overview

Welcome to the WoW Forever Fire Mage Guide. This guide shows you the recommended talents for your journey to level 30 in the Classic Forever Beta, as well as our expected level 60 build. The Fire Mage uses the power of Hot Streak and Ignites to blast and burn their foes to ashes. You'll use a wide array of fire skills to get procs on your Hot Streak Talent and then use it to cast a Pyroblast at a fraction of it's normal cast time. In the early levels you'll be using Frost Bolt to slow enemies before you finish them off with Fireballs.

While fire is great in endgame it doesn't quite have the utility of a Frost Mage for leveling. If you want a smoother and even more dominant experience check out our Frost Mage Leveling Guide.

For the complete list of Mage talent and ability changes across all three specs, see our Mage Class Overview & Changes.

Disclaimer

This is a work in progress and will be updated with complete information during the BETA and launch of WoW Forever. The final guide cover the following: BIS equipment, Talent Trees, Rotations, Professions and more.

Talents

Level 30 Talents (0,21,0)

This build is fully going into fire, cause we all want to try out Hot Streak and see what it's like. In a more realistic setting you would put 5 points into Elemental Precision early on and drop 5 points at the end of the fire tree. Since we're capped at level 30 in the beta this wouldn't allow us to try out the fun new Talent though!

  1. Start with 5 points in Improved Fireball, then get 2 points into Flame Throwing and 5 points into Ignite. (It'll be tempting to grab Pyroblast before you finish Ignite. You can do this, but the Ignite is going to be more beneficial early on. Pyroblast should really only be used when you have Hot Streak and can reduce it's cooldown massively.)
  2. After you finish the first 2 rows you'll put 2 points into Burning Soul, 1 Point into Pyroblast and 1 point into Hot Streak.
  3. Next put 3 points into Improved Scorch, finish off Burning Soul and use your last point to pick up Blast Wave.
  4. You now have all the most fun Fire Skills and can blast your enemies with fire in every way imaginable.

Level 60 Talents (10/11/30)

Here's a look at what we think the level 60 Fire Mage Talent Tree will look like. As mentioned above, this guide will be updated as we go through the beta and during launch to include any other Endgame Fire Mage Talent Trees, along with all the other information you need to excel in the endgame and Raids as a Mage.

Suggested Races

Playable Races

Alliance - Human, Gnome & Skyborn

Horde - Orc, Troll & Undead

Recommended Races

Gnome is quite possibly the best race in the game and the one you want to pick as Alliance. Eureka! reduces the cost of your next 3 abilities and gives them 10% increased damage. Expansive Mind gives you 5% more maximum mana. Escape Artist grants you immunity to Roots and Snares.

Troll is great since you’ll be fighting a lot of beasts in the early game and they have 5% increased damage to beasts. Their Berserking buff grants you 10% casting speed for 10 seconds and they also have Rapid Regeneration which allows you to restore 50% of your health every 3 minutes.

Orc is the other competitive horde race choice. Blood Fury boosts your Spell Power by 10% for 15 seconds. Shatter Curse grants immunity to Curses, Banes and reduces Magical Damage taken. Hardiness decreases stuns by 20%

For every race's full ability list, check our racial abilities guide.

Gameplay

The primary Skills you’ll use are Fireball, Scorch, Pyroblast, Blast Wave and even Frost Bolt. Frost Bolt is still an essential part of early leveling to apply chill to enemies, allowing you to blast them down with Fire Skills before they start interrupting your casts and dealing damage to you.

  1. Early on you want to open up on enemies with Frost Bolt and Fireball. The Frost Bolt opener really is never a bad idea when fighting solo enemies on your own, and can be used pretty much indefinitely. You can also open up with a Fireball first once you get Flame Throwing and follow it up right away with a Rank 1 Frost Bolt to get essentially the same effect when casting at max range.
  2. As you level up more and get Ignite and Pyroblast you can start using your power to just kill enemies before they reach you anyway. Casting Pyroblast to open on an enemy will surely deal massive damage but can also be a little slow and cost a lot of mana. Fireball and Scorch are usually better to be spamming, especially when you get Improved Scorch and Hot Streak.
  3. Once you have Hot Streak and Improved Scorch the idea is pretty simple, open up with Fireball and then spam Scorch on enemies. Since it has your lowest cast time it'll get Critical Strikes quickly and build up the 5 stacks of its debuff. Once you have 3 stacks of Hot Streak you can use Pyroblast with it's shorter Cooldown to hit them with your heaviest punch.
  4. At level 30 you'll get Blast Wave, this is mostly going to benefit you in party play and dungeons when you're always fighting packs of multiple enemies.

Things to Remember

Visit your Class Trainer often to get your new skills, levels 10 & 20 specifically have some incredible new abilities and upgrades to your current ones.

You're a Bakery and Drinking fountain! Always make your own food and water to prepare for your sessions. Mages get a tremendous benefit of not having to buy these consumes.

Stat Priority

A Mages Favorite Stats are Intellect and Spirit. Intellect increases your maximum Mana and increases your Spell Critical Strike Chance. Spirit increases your Health and Mana regeneration when you're out of combat. Stamina is also great while leveling, just avoid Strength and Agility those aren't for you!

Group Play & Dungeons

In group play you'll be pulling more than 1 mob at a time allowing you to get huge AOE damage from your Flame Strike, Blast Wave and even Blizzard. Keep in mind early on most tanks will have a hard time getting threat on multiple mobs though, you want to play this by ear and make sure you aren't driving them crazy every pull.

You may be asked to sheep mobs regularly in dungeons. You can also take it upon yourself to sheep a distant caster mob that's being annoying or use it as a way for your party to get out of trouble. Speaking of trouble don't forget about the defensive power of Blizzard and Frost nova, If things are ever getting spicy you can slow down a group of mobs with Blizzard or freeze then in place with your Nova to allow your party to retreat.

Get ready for everyone to ask you for food and water. It's always wise to keep several stacks on you in preparation of this if you're heading off to join a group for any activity.

Tips

For all casters the #1 tip for leveling is to obtain wands early and upgrade them often. Tailors can make Lesser and Greater Magic wands that deal incredible DPS for their level range. Either get the Tailoring Profession and make your own or head over to the auction house to buy one!

Keep Arcane Intellect and Frost Armor up at all times!

You can make portals to other cities for payment, and can even sell your Conjured Food and Water to people in town.
