Overview

Welcome to the WoW Forever Discipline Priest Guide. This guide shows you the recommended talents for your journey to level 30 in the Classic Forever Beta, as well as our expected level 60 build. Discipline Priest is traditionally a healing spec that brings powerful buffs like Power Infusion and Shields to your allies to keep them alive in battle. It's a powerful spec to have in a group or raid format in the endgame. Discipline however can also be a great way to level up as a Priest combining the power of Holy damage with Smite and Holy Fire and your Wand Specialization. This guide is going to be DPS Discipline Priest focused and will be updated later on to include the endgame healing focused spec.

If you want another great leveling build for priest you can check out our Shadow Priest Leveling Guide.

Disclaimer

This is a work in progress and will be updated with complete information during the BETA and launch of WoW Forever. The final guide cover the following: BIS equipment, Talent Trees, Rotations, Professions and more.

Talents

Level 30 Talents (16,0,5)

For Discipline Priest the #1 thing you want is to grab Wand Specialization. This is the bread and butter of the build and it allows you to essentially pull enemies non stop without ever having to sit down to drink and eat. Luckily you get to put your first 2 talent points into it!

  1. After getting Wand Specialization switch over to the Shadow tree to put 5 points into Spirit Tap. This is another key part of the build, it allows you to constantly be regenerating your Mana at an increased rate.
  2. Head back to the Discipline Tree and put 5 points into Power in Light and 3 points into Holy Precision.
  3. Finally put 3 points into Meditation and 3 into Mental Agility.

This build is heavily focused on Mana sustain and allows you to very freely use Holy Fire and Smite to get some solid damage on enemies before finishing them off with your wand. You will essentially have infinite mana, making your journey through the early levels a breeze.

Once you hit level 30 or are close to it you could consider respeccing your talents to go deeper into the Discipline tree to pick up Penance at the cost of Spirit Tap. It's worth trying out once you get there, but Spirit Tap is just too powerful to pass up along the way. For thsi I would put 1 point into Inner Focus, 3 points into Improved Inner Fire and then your final point in Penance.

Level 60 Talents (31/20/0)

Here's a look at what we think the level 60 Discipline Priest Talent Tree will look like. As mentioned above, this guide will be updated as we go through the beta and during launch to include any other Endgame Discipline Priest Talent Trees, along with all the other information you need to excel in the endgame and Raids as a Priest.

Suggested Races

Playable Races

Alliance - Human, Dwarf, Night Elf & Gnome

Horde - Troll & Undead

Recommended Races

Priest sometimes get unique abilities depending on what race they choose and we don't know what they are yet. Because of this it's hard to recommend the best race for each faction. Fear Ward is expected to be base line for all Priests now, so we don't need to choose based around that anymore. Here's our suggestion based off just the base racial bonuses:

Gnome is quite possibly the best race in the game and a great choice as Alliance. Eureka! reduces the cost of your next 3 abilities and gives them 10% increased Damage & Healing. Expansive Mind gives you 5% more maximum mana. Escape Artist grants you immunity to Roots and Snares. If being a Gnome isn't for you the other 3 choices all have their benefits as well, you really can't go wrong as an Alliance Priest.

Troll is great since their Berserking buff grants you 10% casting speed for 10 seconds (this has been changed from original WoW). They also have Rapid Regeneration which allows you to restore 50% of your health every 3 minutes and Regeneration which allows 10% of your health Regeneration to continue during combat.

Gameplay

The primary Skills you’ll use are Smite, Holy Fire, and your Wand! This truly is one of the simplest rotations and builds you'll every play. Of course you'll use healing spells to top your self off as needed too but let's focus on the DPS rotation and you can figure out healing yourself when needed.

  1. Engage an enemy with Holy Fire.
  2. Either use Smite or your wand to finish them off depending on how your mana is looking and depending on which one is doing more damage at your level. There are going to be times where you wand is doing even more damage than spamming your Smite ability.
  3. When you have a decent amount of Mana and Smite is actually doing more DPS than your want lean into it. You can also just follow up Holy Fire with a single Smite for a bit more damage then switch over to your want to finish them off.

Your Spirit Tap will proc giving you a lot of your mana back, then you just simply rinse and repeat as you go from battle to battle.

You're going to take some hits at times, you can use Power Word: Shield on yourself to prevent damage and just toss your self a Renew to get your health back between fights. Remember wand attacks aren't interrupted by taking damage so this is why it's key to switch over to wanding when enemies get close to keep your DPS going, uninterrupted.

Things to Remember

Visit your Class Trainer often to get your new skills, levels 10, 20 & 30 specifically have some incredible new abilities and upgrades to your current ones.

Keep up your Inner Fire, Power Word: Fortitude and Divine Spirit on you and your allies.

Always upgrade your wand as soon as possible with this build! The Lesser and Greater Magic Wands from Tailoring are essential to this builds success early on.

Stat Priority

A Priests Favorite Stats are Intellect and Spirit. Intellect increases your maximum Mana and increases your Spell Critical Strike Chance. Stacking as much Spirit as possible is incredible for a Discipline Priest since it increases your Health and Mana regeneration when you're out of combat and increases the effect of your Spirit Tap. Stamina is also great while leveling, just avoid Strength and Agility entirely.

Group Play & Dungeons

This might be a hard sell on a dungeon group, but Discipline Priest can hold their own, especially in the dungeons sub level 30. As long as you have a powerful wand and lean into your Smite and Holy Fire you'll be keeping up with the other DPS just fine.

You also bring the normal Priest utility that may be missing from a group in the first place such as: Healing, Shields, Power Word: Fortitude and the ability to dispel Magic and Disease. If you see a need for some extra healing don't hesistate to toss out a few renews or Power Word: Shield on an ally. You're going to be the king of mana in your group and can afford to do this and go back to letting your wand do the work when needed.

Tips

Wand

For all casters the #1 tip for leveling is to obtain wands early and upgrade them often. Tailors can make Lesser and Greater Magic wands that deal incredible DPS for their level range. Either get the Tailoring Profession and make your own, or head over to the auction house to buy one! Yes, even as a healer you should get a good wand. You can use it to help do some damage at the cost of no Mana! It brings your whole party much joy to see their healer helping do damage when they get the chance. Just make sure you're not letting people die or sit at low health while you're doing so.

Loot has changed in WoW forever and the location of great wands may be different from original Classic. Here's a quick rundown of wands that you can look out for to stay on top of it:

  • Level 5 - Lesser Magic Wand, 11.3 DPS (Tailoring or Auction House)
  • Level 13 - Greater Magic Wand, 17.5 DPS (Tailoring or Auction House)
  • Level 18 - Gravestone Scepter, 29 DPS (Blackfathom Villainy Quest in Ashenvale)

While the Gravestone Scepter is technically available at level 18, the dungeon itself has enemies in the high level 20 range. You likely won't be able to obtain it this early unless you have a group of high level guildies or friends just carry you through the dungeon. Aside form new wands being available up to level 30 in WoW Forever this is likely the best wand you'll be able to obtain in the BETA.

Other

Don't forget to buff your teammates! Power Word: Fortitude is very helpful to you as well since people will have a greater health pool, don't forget to rebuff allies after they've been Resurrected.

Remember that Warrior and Druid Tanks need Rage to use their abilities and generate threat. A big portion of their Rage comes from taking damage so you need to avoid using Power Word: Shield on them unless it's absolutely necessary to buy you some time to get heals off. If you cast a shield on either of these tanks to start every pull you're just griefing their ability to gain Rage and actually play their character.

Macros

Auto Shoot Wand Macro

#showtooltip Shoot

/cast !Shoot

Mouse Over Renew

Mouse over macros allow you to hover your mouse over a player or their raid frame to cast on them without dropping your main target. This can be very useful to cast Renew or any other spell of your liking on allies without having to change targets.

#showtooltip Renew

/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][help,nodead][@player] Renew

Mouse Over Flash Heal

Same as the macro above but to hit them with a quick heal. You could make one for Power Word: Shield as well.
