How to Play Void — TFT Set 16: Lore & Legends

Void welcomes your favorite Void champions as well as some Rift Herald and Baron Nashor who are unlockable champions. Rift Herald only requires you to play Void for 8 rounds to start showing up in shops as a four cost unit.

However, Baron Nashor has much steep requirements of needing 7 Void and level 10 in order to get Baron Nashor in your shops as a 7 cost unit. This makes it so that Void has a very high cap.

Generally, this composition will likely be a tempo composition and when you hit your units at a decent pace, you have a chance of playing first by going to level 10. However, if you miss your units, expect to bleed out to a third or fourth after streaking with Void.

I like how this composition has solid early game options and will change throughout each game due to what items the mutation is each game. It will take some time to figure out, but players will start experimenting soon!

How TFT Void Works

Void Trait Bonus

void trait

Gain Mutations that only Void champions can use. Void champions gain Attack Speed.

  • (2) 1 Mutation, 8% AS
  • (4) 2 Mutations, 18% AS
  • (6) 3 Mutations, 28% AS
  • (9) Mutations become supercharged, increasing their power by 50%. 35% AS

Champions can only have one Mutation at a time. Benching a champion removes their Mutation.

Void Champions and Synergy

Void has Longshot with Kog’maw and Kai’sa as natural synergies. There are also plenty of other options for trait synergies in Void’s trait web:

  • Kog’Maw (1G) - Arcanist & Longshot
  • Rek’Sai (2G) - Vanquisher
  • Cho’Gath (2G) - Juggernaut
  • Malazahar (3G) - Disruptor
  • Rift Herald (4G) - Bruiser
  • Bel’Veth (4G) - Slayer
  • Kai’sa (4G) - Assimilator & Longshot
  • Baron Nashor (7G) - Riftscourge

The Void Trait

Void is an item based trait that allows you to have special items only on Void units. We have had traits like this before, and typically there are a couple items that will make some units absolutely unstoppable with the right item combinations. It comes down to finding that combination and being able to use it to climb consistently!

As you add Void units, your team also gains attack speed with the reach trait of 9 where your mutations become supercharged and you get insane stats with an increase of power by 50% and 35% attack speed which will make the Void hard to beat!

It is also important to note that Void does not require a Spatula to get to Baron Nashor, so often times it can be a high cap option if you have the opener and the gold to get there!

TFT Void Champions

Kog’Maw (1G) - Arcanist & Longshot

tft set 16 kog'maw

[Link to Champion Page]

Kog’Maw is a 1 gold Void unit who is also an Arcanist and Longshot unit. These make it possible for him to be a carry, especially with a good mutation item. His ability Caustic Spittle is 30 mana and deals (AP) magic damage to a target and reduces their armor and magic resistance.

Adjacent enemies are dealt a percent of the damage and effect. With built in shred and sunder Kog’maw will be on most boards with his traits due to his top-notch utility of consistently being able to make his targets have reduced resistances!

Rek’Sai (2G) - Vanquisher

tft set 16 rek'sai

[Link to Champion Page]

Rek’Sai is a Vanquisher with the ability Burrow. Burrow lets Rek’Sai dash to the furthest enemy within 3 hexes and deals (AD & AP) physical damage to them. The next 3 attacks hit adjacent enemies and deal (AD) physical damage.

Although I don’t expect Rek’Sai to be rerolled often, she may find a spot in a Vanquisher composition. Most likely in Void, she will be more of a trait bot rather than a true carry. She likely carries Bel’Veth’s future items in the early game.

Cho’Gath (2G) - Juggernaut

tft set 16 cho'gath

[Link to Champion Page]

Cho’Gath is the other 2 gold unit from the Void. He is also a Juggernaut which gives him some front line stats. His ability, Rupture, restores (AP) health and ruptures a 2 hex circle beneath a target. After a brief delay, enemies within are knocked up for 1.5 seconds and take (Health & AP) magic damage.

The crowd control Cho’Gath offers makes him a great unit - 1.5 seconds is a long time to knock up your opponent’s units. On top of this, he has scaling with Health which means health items like Warmog’s will be strong on him while making him more tanky.

Malzahar (3G) - Disruptor

tft set 16 malzahar

[Link to Champion Page]

Malazahar returns as a 3 gold unit and a Disruptor. His ability is one of my favorites, Void Swarm. For 40 mana, he summons 2 Voidlings that each attack nearby enemies 15 times. Each attack deals (AP) magic damage.

I cannot wait to watch Malazahars spam little Voidlings that cover the board and attack their enemies. He will be a lot of fun to play and watch for this reason! I expect him to build a mana item and flat ability power to get the most out of his casts.

Rift Herald (4G) - Bruiser

tft set 16 rift herald

[Link to Champion Page]

Rift Herald, otherwise known as Shelly, is a Bruiser who can only be unlocked by playing Void for 8 rounds. Shelly’s ability is Warp Armor. Warp Armor lets Shelly gain max health and grow larger.

Shelly slams in a 2 hex circle on a target, dealing (AP & Health) magic damage to enemies hit. For 4 seconds, she gains (AP) durability for each enemy targeting this unit.

Shelly scales off of Health and AP does a magic damage and will be one of the main carries of this composition. It is ideal to build some shred because although Kog’maw has built in shred and sunder, it is best to be able to apply it to more units especially for units like Shelly who hit multiple targets.

Bel’Veth (4G) - Slayer

tft set 16 bel'veth

[Link to Champion Page]

Bel’Veth is a Void and Slayer with the ability Endless Banquiet. It costs 100 mana and has a passive and active trait. The passive has on takedown gain stacking attack speed that decays over 3 seconds.

Her active is to deal (AD) physical damage in a 2 hex radius and transform for the rest of combat. While transformed, gain (AP) attack speed, max health, and increased movement speed. Attacks deal bonus true damage, increased by 3/5/25 for each time the same enemy is hit.

Bel’Veth can use a lot of stats, especially ones that allow you to attack more. I expect attack speed items on her like Guinsoo’s Rageblade being a potential best in slot for Bel’Veth.

Kai’sa (4G) - Assimilator & Longshot

tft set 16 kai'sa

[Link to Champion Page]

Kai’sa is a 4 gold Void with additional traits Assimilator and Longshot. Her ability is one we have seen on Kai’sa a couple of items in the past but it is one of my favorites - Icatharian Rain and it is only 10 mana.

She dashes away from all enemies and fires missiles split across the nearest 4 enemies. Each missile deals (AD & AP physical damage).

In previous iterations, Kai’sa has had additional ramping from attacks, but this was too strong combined with the fact that she dashes away from enemies. She is often one of the last units left alive which is ideal for a carry.

Kai’sa can also be great at applying debuffs such as anti-heal due to hitting 4 enemies while staying safe and keeping the anti-heal alive. We can expect to see her carrying Morello or Red Buff often for this reason.

Baron Nashor (7G) - Riftscourge

tft set 16 baron nashor

[Link to Champion Page]

The final Void unit is Baron Nashor which can only be found at level 10 as his unlock on top of playing 7 Void. However, Baron is incredibly powerful and can often be a game winning unit.

Baron’s ability, Wrath of the Void is 50 mana. It has a passive where Baron is immune to crowd control effects - just like Baron in League of Legends. Baron’s attacks deal damage in a line on a target. If no enemies are in range, dash to the next one and knock up adjacent enemies on arrival.

While in the Void Rift, erupt a tentacle below a random enemy every 3/3/0.25 seconds that knocks them up for 1.5 seconds. These knock ups are extremely powerful as your opponents will enter the bounce house that is now their board.

In the late game, crowd control and preventing your opponents from casting their abilities is what wins games and why crowd control is so strong in the late game, so it makes sense why Baron Nashor is loaded with crowd control abilities. That isn’t even all of his ability as we have not even gotten to his active ability yet.

His active ability is slam and erect spikes in a 2 hex circle, dealing (AD & AP) physical damage to enemies hit. Then over 3 seconds, spit globs of acid that deal (AD & AP) phsycial damage.

With Baron doing so much physical damage, you will really want to have Sunder built. This also means that Bel’veth is likely the carry before getting to Baron and items such as Last Whisper could be very strong. On top of this Kai’sa likely carries the Debuff items to support Baron at level 10 to ensure a victory!

I am very excited to see Baron as a purchasable unit in this set as we have not had that before. Personally, I love the Void from the aesthetic to a lot of the units in it, and I am really happy Riot has brought back the Void, Shelly, and Baron back to TFT!

See you on the ladder,

Silverfuse
