How to Play Stargazer — TFT Set 17: Space Gods

Stargazers chart different constellations each game which makes for different team compositions and builds depending on the constellation. There is the Serpent, Huntress, Mountain, Altar, Medallion, Fountain, and the Boar.

Each Constellation empowers hexes on the board that benefit your team. However, for each Constellation the hexes do something a little bit different. Let’s take a look at what each does in each Constellation.

Stargazer Champions and Synergy

Stargazer trait webs have a some solid options especially for front row tanks Bastion and Vanguard:

  • Talon (1G) - Rogue
  • Twisted Fate (1G) - Fateweaver
  • Jax (2G) - Bastion
  • Lulu (3G) - Replicator
  • Nunu (4G) - Vanguard
  • Xayah (4G) - Sniper

The Stargazer Trait

The Serpent has empowered hexes where Stargazers within the hex gain durability and poison enemies. This is more of a stall composition, so having a strong tank will be important in this team composition.

For The Huntress, the highest health enemies are marked and allies within empowered hexes gain attack speed. In addition, Stargazers within these marked hexes also heal for their max health whenever a marked enemy dies.

In the Mountain Constellation, for every 5 player combats - you gain a Stargazer emblem which gives empowered hexes with unique bonuses. In this Constellation, you will want to have a strong opener of Stargazers and items that you can snowball off of by winning a lot of fights.

In the Altar Constellation when any unit dies, they are sacrificed to the altar and after 60 sacrifices Stargazers in empowered hexes gain additional health and attack speed. This is a constellation where you will want to play a weaker early game and econ up to be strong after your 60 sacrifices.

The Medallion Constellation is about 3-starring your units. This is because 3-star units in the hexes deal extra damage amplification versus when they are 2-star units.

The Fountain Constellation is allies in empowered hexes that gain 1 mana regeneration. Stargazers within the hexes gain more and heal the lowest health allies with their abilities. This is the kind of composition that will likely be a stall composition with Archangels in the backline and a strong tank in the front line.

For the Boar Constellation, players gain gold on each win. Allies within the empowered hexes gain health, attack damage, and ability power with Stargazers benefiting from it even more. The higher the number of Stargazers with this trait - the more gold you get per a win. This is a strong economy trait for the early and mid game, but for late game you will likely want to pivot into a higher cap composition instead.

Tip: At the beginning of each game you can check in your planner a Stargazer to see what the Stargazer trait is for the game. You should check the trait every game to know what the options are for when you are choosing your team composition at the start of the game.

TFT Stargazer Champions

Talon (1G) - Rogue

tft set 17 talon

[Link to Champion Page]

Talon is a Rogue with Diviner’s Judgment where he stabs a target, causing them to bleed for (AD & AP) physical damage over a duration of seconds. After the attack, he leaps to the highest percent health enemy within a certain number of hexes.

Talon’s ability only costs 30 mana, so Talon will be constantly jumping and stabbing units. This makes him a good debuff applier since he will hit multiple different units and he deals damage over time.

Twisted Fate (1G) - Fateweaver

tft set 17 twisted fate

[Link to Champion Page]

Twisted Fate’s ability Fate’s Gambit allows him to draw a card with the value between 1 and 9 - he then throws the card at his target. Based on the card drawn, he deals between a minimum and maximum AP damage to hit target.

Overkill damage bounces to the nearest enemy. With the lucky Fateweaver ability - he checks the cards twice and takes the better outcome of the two.

Jax (2G) - Bastion

tft set 17 jax

[Link to Champion Page]

Jax is  Bastion with Counter Star-ike as his ability. He enters a defensive stance, reducing incoming damage by (AP) and gaining (AP) shield. When the stance ends, he strikes all nearby enemies dealing (Armor & MR) magic damage and stunning them for a duration.

This stunning ability will help Jax be a strong Bastion throughout the game and will likely pair him with other higher cost Bastions in the late game to act as a front line for the Stargazer compositions.

Lulu (3G) - Replicator

tft set 17 lulu

[Link to Champion Page]

Lulu has a passive and an active ability: It’s Raining Stars. For the passive, Lulu’s spell gains different secondary effects each game. I love this idea and it is a new idea introduced to TFT as a whole.

For the active, she calls down something from the sky, dealing (AP) magic damage to a number of nearby enemies and doing some special effects based on the game’s Stargazer Constellation.

Nunu (4G) - Vanguard

tft set 17 nunu

[Link to Champion Page]

Nunu has the ability Calamity in which he gains (AP) shield for a duration of seconds. He summons an astrolabe to crash down on the most enemies within 2 hexes, dealing (AP) magic damage. Then Nunu pushes the astrolabe towards the end of the board, dealing (AP) magic damage.

All enemies hit by the astrolabe are knocked up for a duration. This gives Nunu great utility while being a higher cost tank which will make him be a key part of the late game.

Xayah (4G) - Sniper

tft set 17 xayah

[Link to Champion Page]

Xayah’s ability Temporal Shot allows her to fire a blast at the current target that deals (AD) physical damage. Every number of takedowns she gains a drone that deals drone damage (AD) physical damage to the current target on cast.

Similar to Ezreal she gains drones for takedowns. Xayah is a 4 cost carry who will often be played around in constellations that are strong in the mid and late game especially if the empowered hexes are in the corner, ready for a ranged carry.
