How to Play Noxus — TFT Set 16: Lore & Legends

Noxus brings Atakhan as part of the fun! Just about every set of TFT has a summon mechanic and in this set it is Noxus and Atakhan! This Atakhan feels very similar to how Galio functioned in Cultist back in set 4, so it has been a while since we have seen a summon quite like this one.

Atakhan is a vertical trait with a lot of units and even has a chase trait of 10. I can’t wait to see a giant Atakhan take down my opponents!

How TFT Noxus Works

Noxus Trait Bonus

noxustrait

After the enemy team has lost 15% of their Health, summon Atakhan, Bringer of Ruin. Each Noxian champion's star level increases his power.

  • (3) He slashes enemies, dealing magic damage.
  • (5) Noxians get more powerful the longer he is alive.
  • (7) He drains the souls of enemies on cast.
  • (10) After 10 seconds, BRING RUIN.

Noxus Champions and Synergy

Noxus has Juggernaut as its lone natural synergy, but there are plenty more options of trait weaving that can be done in Noxus:

  • Briar (1G) - Slayer & Juggernaut
  • Sion (2G) - Bruiser
  • LeBlanc (3G) - Invoker
  • Draven (3G) - Quickstriker
  • Darius (3G) - Defender
  • Swain (4G) - Arcanist &Juggernaut
  • Ambessa (4G) Vanquisher
  • Mel (5G) Disruptor

The Noxus Trait

Atakhan has increments of 3,5,7, and 10. This makes it so that early games having 3 Noxus will give you an Atakhan summon which will be strong in the early game due to essentially having an extra unit.

With star levels increasing the strength of Atakhan, there may be some possibility of rerolling the 3 cost units Draven, Darius, and LeBlanc on level 7 to get a strong Atakhan on top of a strong 3 star 3 cost board!

TFT Noxus Champions

Briar (1G) - Slayer & Juggernaut

tft set 16 briar

[Link to Champion Page]

Briar is 1 gold and has multiple tags even as a 1 cost unit. This spells that she might be a rerollable unit in the future since she benefits from multiple traits.

Her ability, Blood Frenzy, lets her leap to the furthest enemy within 3 hexes. For 4 seconds she gains increased movement speed, attack damage, and 3 (AP) decaying attack speed.

She kind of reminds me of Warwicks of previous sets where she will likely greatly benefit from some Artifact or Radiant items that will make 3 star Briar incredibly strong. However, reroll Briar is more likely to be played with Slayers rather than Noxus.

Sion (2G) - Bruiser

tft set 16 sion

[Link to Champion Page]

Sion is a Bruiser with the ability Soul Furnace. Sion’s passive means that takedowns grant permanent max health. With his active (Health & AP) he gains 4 seconds. When it breaks, he deals (Health) magic damage to adjacent enemies.

The scaling health on him makes him an interesting unit that you have to consider playing in the early game especially if you two star him early. It is possible he would be a carry with Bruiser trait active.

LeBlanc (3G) - Invoker

tft set 16 leblanc

[Link to Champion Page]

LeBlanc is an Invoker who has the ability Distortions. Distortions summons 3 dashing mirror images that strike the target and nearby enemies. The target takes (AP) Magic damage and is stunned for 1 second, while other units take (AP) magic damage.

LeBlanc might be rerolled with Draven and Darius in some instances in the Noxus trait. She also has the potential of being an Invoker trait bot in some Invoker compositions as well.

Draven (3G) - Quickstriker

tft set 16 draven

[Link to Champion Page]

Draven is one of the 3s who might be rerolled in Noxus as he is a carry with a lot of damage potential with his Spinning Axes ability. He has the passive where if Draven has an empowered axe in hand, his next attack will throw it.

On takedown, he gains a stack of Adoration, doubled if Draven or Darius score the kill. Every 11 Adoration stacks he grants 1/3/5 gold.

This is great news as in order to reroll 3 cost units, you need a lot of gold and this is a way to have additional gold generation.

The active ability is he spins an empowered axe that replaces his basic attack and deals (AD & AP) physical damage and returns to Draven after hitting an enemy.

Darius (3G) - Defender

tft set 16 darius

[Link to Champion Page]

Darius is a Defender which will make him one of the main front line units of this Noxus Composition. However, he does damage while tanking through his ability Decimate.

He restores (Health & AP) health and spins dealing (AD) physical damage to adjacent enemies and applying a stack of Hemorrhage that deals (AD) physical damage each second for 4 seconds. IF an enemy with Hemorrhage drops below a health threshold, he slams on them instantly killing them. Each takedown stack makes the kill threshold smaller.

Swain (4G) - Arcanist & Juggernaut

tft set 16 swain

[Link to Champion Page]

Swain has multiple traits that will make him good in several compositions, including this one as he will be a primary tank in the Noxus Comp. He has the ability Nevermove which he has a passive for each second, he restores (Health & AP) Health and deals (AP) magic damage to enemies within 1 hex.

He also has an active and opens a demonic eye on the largest group of nearby enemies dealing (AP) magic damage and stunning them for 1.75/2/8 seconds. This active ability of stunning a large group of enemies is insane, especially on a tank with a strong ability to tank with his passive.

This will make Swain a staple in any compositions that use Arcanist, Juggernaut, and Noxus traits.

Ambessa (4G) Vanquisher

tft set 16 ambessa

[Link to Champion Page]

Ambessa is a 4 gold unit with the ability Lacerate for only 20 mana. SHe swipes and dashes around a target, dealing (AD & AP) physical damage to enemies in the path.

Then she slams the chains on the target, dealing (AD & AP) physical damage in a line. If any enemies are killed, she immediately recasts this ability, dealing 1% damage.

Mel (5G) Disruptor

tft set 16 mel

[Link to Champion Page]

The final Noxian is no other than Mel who is also a Disruptor. Her ability: Radiant Eclipse has a passive and active ability. The passive ability is while gaining mana she throws out radiant orbs that orbit around a target. They deal (AP) magic damage in a 1 hex radius and drain 1 mana from units hit each second. After draining mana, she gains a random radiant item.

I have not seen a trait quite like this and assuming the random radiant item is from a pool of suggested items, this passive ability seems incredibly strong.

Her active ability is she detonates the orbs on the target, causing a 3 hex radius explosion that deals (AP) magic damage to them and (AP) magic damage to all other enemies hit.

Mel can only be gotten through fulfilling the quest to have a 2 star Ambessa with one item dying, so make sure to do this to get access to Mel in your shops!

Noxus is the summon trait of this set which tends to be a fan favorite. I hope you enjoy watching Atakhan takedown your enemies with the help of Mel, Ambessa, Swain, Darius, Drave, LeBlanc, Sion, and Briar!
