Build Overview

Hi guys! and welcome to the Purifying Flame Spell Totem Support hierophant league starter
This build offers great clear and single target, and runs with moderate speed.

with the changes made to Holy Flame Totem and it's extended projectile range, we will use that skill untill we transition into Purifying Flame totems!

With horrible "luck" SSF gear, and very low EHP, this build still managed to get this old guy through act 1-10 in 4 hours and 37 minutes in an SSF run somewhat safely. The taunt of the totems makes it surprisingly "safe" ( Check defensive portion of videoguide to see it in action ) Timestamped link

This written guide only serves as a way to start your PoE journey and level through act 1-10 in the upcoming keepers of the flame league while using Holy Flame Totem Leap Slam and Flame Wall untill you can transition into "the purifier"

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • can complete story on very minimal gear ( check gear section to see just how minimal )
  • no need to aim
  • good mobility
  • totem playstyle is not for everyeone
  • need to use the correct playstyle cycle to be safe
  • not the fastest starter
  • not for t17 and it's mods
  • not meant as a "tanky starter"

Build Variants

This is the leveling variant for the Purifier.. the mad damage endgame version will follow as soon as we have more data on scaling through the new league mechanics!

Quick leveling Tips and advice!!

*** gamble is very strong when done well!***
Gamble options for 4 links / movement speed boots / +1 lvl of skills scepres
+1 all fire or +1 all physical are booth good!

From the start
At vendor look for RRB or RBR items. RegEx MS boots and +1 wands/sceptre is "r-r-b|r-b-r|b-r-r|nne|Flam|singe|derha|itho"

Grab Rolling Flames after Hillock

Lvl 4 Flame Wall Shield Charge ( if you want to use a spirit shield with some spell damage)

For 3-link look RRB or BBR Holy Flame Totem (lvl 4) Added Fire Damage Support ( lvl8)Infused Channelling Support (lvl 4) or if you only have BBR change added fire to Added Lightning Damage Support ( lvl 8)

Spell Totem Support (lvl 8) Purifying Flame (lvl 1) grab when you can and level in offhand weapon

at level 10 grab Leap Slam for movement ( at this point you'll use sceptres )

At lvl 18-19 go for your 2nd totem with Ancestral Bond and ditch Rolling Magma

If u dont yet have it, Act 3 gamble for one of these boots/gloves/helmet str int base hybrid, ez 4 link look for BBRR or BBBR Act 3 library for Haste + Faster Attacks Support ( link to Leap Slam)

After act 4, grab Multiple Totems Support and offhand level it with Spell Totem Support and Purifying Flame

Untill you obtain a usable 5 link, don't swap out of Holy Flame Totem

With a good five link, and more AOE scaling on your passive tree using Amplify , use Purifying Flame + Increased Critical Damage Support ( if you've already swapped out of Elemental Overload or Faster Casting Support if you haven't ! ) + Multiple Totems Support + Spell Totem Support + Physical to Lightning Support

The above abysmal gear, was used to clear the full act 1-10 story in SSF in 4 hours and 37 minutes ( for me that was a personal best ) .
TIPS, you'll want to take some time to gamble for better sceptres, add better life mods on your gear and res craft where needed.. but this just show's that even with real bad luck, you'll have no problems completing the acts with this build from a mechanical standpoint.

we will not be swapping to purifying flame untill we gain acces to a 5 link.. with the new league mechanics, this should be fairly early in game.. as soon as act 4.
at that point you will take the AOE nodes on the passive tree such as Amplify and adjecent nodes and use the following links.
Purifying Flame Spell Totem Support Multiple Totems Support Increased Critical Damage Support ( only if you've already swapped to crit scaling and out of Elemental Overload after 2nd lab!!! useFaster Casting Support if you have not yet ) Physical to Lightning Support

How it Plays

playstyle is as followed..

Place a totem in the direction of travel. the taunt totem mastery will make sure enemies target the totems, and not you!
Jump to that direction using Leap Slam then immediately place another totem ahead of you.

This cycle means totems never stop taunting.. enemys never target you. and you need to worry only about ground effects.

You will not wait arround for your totems to make the kill.. by that time you're already ahead to the next pack. use a TYTYKILLER loot filter for audible drops.. this way you wont miss valuable currency by not seeing the drop!

How it Works

The idea is a starter that doesn't need 5 buttons, or waste nodes in the tree on defensive abilities
due to how you play and make use of your totems as agro pullers and meat shields!
Play the cycle right, and you'll be in maps with just 2 buttons!
