Build Overview

Welcome to one of the strongest, SCARIEST TO PLAY, and most active builds you've... PROBABLY never played or seen on any league starter tier-list: it's the BUTTONSHREDDER Wolfazon! I'll be honest...there's a reason it's not often shared in meta PoE 2 circles...

This build uses the full extent of the Wolf form skills but NOT on the Druid class. Instead it uses the Huntress' Amazon ascendancy class to take advantage of the quick damage scaling options provided by the ascendancy, allowing us to scale Wolf form's damage to the extreme without investing a ton of raw currency into it, as would be needed for the Oracle, Invoker, or Shaman versions of the build I've seen. Succinctly: the floor is HIGHER HERE especially on a league start scenario.

Or for someone who doesn't have many hours to play.

When I decided I wanted to play Wolf for 0.5.5, I knew I wanted to try something NOT DRUID. I'd already done a Smith of Kitava Wolf build to 93 in 0.4, so when I saw the Amazon's pretty sick compatibility w/ Wolf Form and did a bit of research, I KNEW this would be the way.

HOWEVER, HERE IS WHY IT IS NOT TOO POPULAR...PREPARE FOR ACTIVITY

BE WARNED: this is a MELEE BUILD and it is ACTIVE.

This is not a one-button build. This is not a ranged build.

I know I just repeated myself, but it's important to stress. I consider this a pretty fun, impactful build but it's NOT for players who would like everything (including bosses) to die w/ the press of a button. IT USES QUITE A FEW BUTTONS ON BOSSES. I detail it all in the guide, though, and to be honest, IT IS VERY SMOOTH as someone who ran Wolf form before.

You also need to pay attention, especially while leveling (particularly acts 1-4) as you're quite squishy then. Once you get the Amazon's GIGA EVASION node + a nice Energy Shield body armor, your tankiness level rises substantially. We're also crowd-controlling A LOT w/ Freeze, so that helps with staying alive too. Ideally, most DANGEROUS monsters die before your freeze ends.

As with all attack-based builds, your weapon is HUGE. Always be looking for an upgraded Talisman and remember: accuracy rating is ACTUALLY A GOOD MODIFIER for this build once you have the Amazon ascendancy up-and-running. It's one of the reasons I landed on this particular ascendancy, it turns it into a really cool item chase, kinda like the Spirit Walker perfect Monkey hunt. One player's trash might be YOUR treasure with this Wolf build. Be wary and REMEMBER: accuracy = good.

Oh, I'm also focusing on some weapon swap shenanigans using The Whispering Ice in the endgame because there's NO WAY I'll be lucky enough (or rich enough) to obtain a Rakiata's Flow...

**This is the FIRST REAL BUILD I've really tried to put together, on Mobalytics and in a video please let me know how I can improve it either here, on stream, or the YouTube video.**

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Awesome Single Target Burst (w/ set up)
  • Good Survivability (ES/EV)
  • Good Clear w/ Herald of Ice (nice pops)
  • Budget-Friendly
  • Excellent Crowd Control (Freeze)
  • Interesting Weapon Chase
  • Active, Fast Playstyle
  • Melee (gotta be real)
  • Multiple Buttons (bad for some)
  • Squishy During Acts + Interludes 1/2
  • Mana Intensive (requires mana flask to start)

Build Variants

Starting off, Wolf Form is a bit squishy. Be ready.

To help with your initial speed in Act 1, combo Entangle with Shred, Lunar Assault, and Lightning Bolt to deal with weak monsters and rares/bosses, respectively. Get Entangle from Renly, Lunar Assault from the guaranteed Level 1 Skill Gem from the camp in Clearfell.

Once you retire Entangle, remember the general gameplay loop of Wolf: freeze enemies with Lunar Assault, THEN attack with Shred to create Ice Shards that'll eventually blow up by themselves. Use Pounce for movement AND to apply Freezing Mark and Frost Bomb earlier on to help bring down bosses even faster. This just evolves as you progress further.

When you get Herald of Ice your pack clearing gets much better, and you can start using Arctic Howl for this early game to generate rage + freeze bosses when they're around 75% on the freeze bar.

As usual in very early game, Armor is BETTER defensively than Evasion. Focus on that, especially since we're focusing on Strength nodes anyway to use our Talisman.

A GOOD TALISMAN IS #1! You would like Phys Damage, Melee Skills, Cold Damage during early levels.

Get armor gear for act 1, especially w/ us taking STR nodes for the Talisman. It'll help us survive ranged hits. Begin swapping to evasion in Act 2. Some armor/evasion pieces are good, can even throw some ES in there for better chance to avoid mini-stuns.

Look for an amulet that gives STATS. If you find one that gives more STR, can swap nodes on the tree to DEX instead of STR.

Look for rings that have +phys damage or +cold damage. Maybe even some +lightning for potential shocks.

ALWAYS PRIORITIZE RESISTS ON BASICALLY ALL NON-WEAPON GEAR.

Once you're midway through Act 1, you can drop Entangle. The skill rotation becomes:

Lunar Assault until someone in a pack (or the boss) is frozen). Shred until not frozen, let the ice shards blow up on top of them. Once you get Arctic Howl AND Freezing Mark w/ Pounce, use Arctic Howl once your target is frozen before starting with your Shred attacks.

If you would like a bit more damage, you can use Frost Bomb on bosses to apply Elemental Exposure. This builds a bit in the endgame with essentially the ONLY UNIQUE I'd like to use in this build...

Pounce is your MOVEMENT and ENGAGE skill. There's lots of places where you can use it to cross a gap, skip and area, or avoid packs. Use it all the time!
