Overview

Abyss is a mechanic in Path of Exile 2 that creates cracks in the earth that spew out monsters. These monsters can be slain for special Omens and Abyss Crafting Currency

Guide

Abyss can be found starting in Act 2 Mastodon Badlands, where players can also find The Lightless Passage, which is required to complete Abyss Crafts with Desecrations.

Abysses can also be found in Waystones and added to endgame areas with Abyss Precursor Tablets

Example of an Abyss Precursor Tablet. Tablets can be made Rare after defeating the Arbiter

After defeating a certain number of enemies within the Abyss, a final wave will spawn from the main Abyss Pit. Defeating this wave has a chance to spawn an Abyss Chest that can drop Abyssal Currency

This Abyss spawned an Abyssal Armoury after being completed

Abyss Crafting and Rewards

Special Crafting Bones can be obtained from Abysses that will allow players to Desecrate their items. Desecration adds a hidden modifier to an item which can then be Revealed at the Well of Souls

We have a full guide on all of the Abyss Crafting items and rewards that can be obtained from the mechanic, which can be read here: Abyss Crafting Guide

Abysses can also be used to add a high density of Rare and Magic monsters to a player's map, improving generic rewards in the form of Currency, Unique and Rare item drops.

Abyssal Depths

Occasionally after completing an Abyss, an opening to the Abyssal Depths will open. This area contains several Abyss monsters, Abyssal Chests and at the end a player will have to defeat one to three Rare Abyss enemies to collect three Abyssal Chests. Dying in this area will prevent the player from re-entering, so be careful!

Abyss Atlas Passive Tree

Abyss in the Endgame can be further improved by allocating points into the Abyss Atlas Passive Tree.

Abyss Atlas Passive Points can be acquired by completing specific goals in Abyss content

Finding Abyssal Bosses

Locating Androth or Tasgul can be a challenge, but allocating Abyssal Ire makes it more likely that you will locate the Lightless Void or Dark Domain which lead to these fights. These two areas spawn similarly to Abyssal Depths but have a different name

Kulemac's Invitation

By defeating either Androth or Tasgul, players will be rewarded with a Kulemac's Invitation, which can be taken to the Well of Souls to enter the final fight against Kulemac.

Abyss Tablets

Abysses can be further juiced in the endgame with Abyss Precursor Tablets, which grant a guaranteed Abyss to the area. Abyss Tablets can have up to 4-modifiers (if you have completed the Arbiter), which increase the difficulty and reward and number of Abysses in the area. By default, Abyss Tablets have 10 Uses Remaining before running out, with one Use consumed per Waystone opened with the Tablet
