Definitiv Guide to Varashta Sorceress - The Perfect Allrounder

Updated on Sep 16, 2026
Sep 16, 2026

Build Overview

Disciple of Varashta is the Perfect Allrounder Ascendancy. It can kill both Arbiter of Ash and Divinity on a Budget. Destroys Campaign after unlocking your Ascendancy, literally one-phasing any Boss with ease. Energy Shield and Chaos Inoculation as easy Defensive Layers, added with Sacred Rituals and Silks of Veneration for absolute Damage Mitigation.

Call forth the Djins, let them do your bidding, and destroy any foe that stands in your way! No one can stand in your way, not even the Pinnacle Bosses! Using Kelari's Deception for absurd Single Target Damage and Ruzhan's Trap or Navira's Fracturing for smooth Clear.

While the Disciple of Varashta scales of Minion Damage, the playstyle is more like a Spellcaster than a Summoner.

The build offers a well-rounded, budget-friendly playing Experience and can take on all of Path of Exile 2, adjustable to fit any content. Taking you from the Beach all the Way to the Endgame with a Low, Mid and High Budget Option.

The Campaign Section is based on the Varashta Speed Runner testsser. Disciple of Varashta is strong enough to keep up with Twister Huntress and Grenade Mercenary at League Start. This variation keeps the strong interaction used by testsser, but adjusted Node, Skill & Support Priority for a smoother Progression.

[While this Build is technically both SSF and Hardcore Viable, I am an SC Trade Creator and recommend this for HC and/or SSF Players.]

This Guide is a Softcore Trade-optimized variant of the Disciple of Varastha Summoner. It focuses on Damage first, then survivability, and finally screen-wide clear in mid-budget. The optional High Budget Stage is for those wanting to push this build to even greater limits. Further improvements are possible after the High Budget Stage, but aren't required for any content in PoE 2.

Regex: ""\d+% i.+mov|^\+.*ion skills$|^\+.*all sp.*ls$|^\+.*re sp.*ls$|^\+.*ng sp.*ls$|^\+.*ile skills$""

Pre-Level 21 and ascending Disciple of Varashta all you care about is +Level of all Skills on a Wand/Staff or %Spell Damage.

Alternative a Voltaic Staff with %Lightning Damage or Ashen Staff with %Fire Damage works too.

A Makeshift Crossbow with +2 Projectile Skills work too, but will require Attributes.

Always keep an Eye out for Movement Speed Boots

Also buy any Helmet and Sceptre with +Level to Minion Skills and stash it for the Swap!

For the rest of the gear, you only care about Life/Energy Shield or Resistances.

Skill Notes

Clear Skill

Until Level 6 Use Contagion and then Spark to spread the Contagion by killing Enemies.
On Blue Packs or bigger White Packs also use Frost Bomb for additional Damage and to generate Cold Infusions to consume with Spark for additional Projectiles and Damage.

Single Target

From Level 1 to Level 14 we adjust the Way to deal with Bosses repeatedly. Use Frost Bomb whenever it is off cooldown to keep Exposure up on the Boss.

On Areagne, you can use Spark in her Hut or use the Basic Skill of your Ashen Staff if you need to move out.

On the Rust King, use Spark if the Boss can be pulled in an alcove. Otherwise, use your Basic Skill again or if you got a random dropped LvL 2 Skill gem use early Volcano.

To maximize Volcano Damage channel it to 3 Stages minimum, if you can 4 beneath the Boss. Reposition between each Channel.

For all Bosses after LvL 6 keep up Essence Drain and use your Basic Skill if its Lightning Bolt or Firebolt, otherwise use Volcano. Keep in mind to swap Unleash if not using Volcano.

At Level 14 Bonestorm will carry Single Target till the Swap. Channel Bonestorm for 2-3 Seconds and fire at the Boss. You can channel to maximum Projectiles on larger Bosses.

Once you have Living Lightning make sure to use a Lesser Storm Rune on your Staff to enable it via any Amount of Lightning Damage. You can socket it either in Bonestorm or in Thunderstorm if you have enough Strength.

How it Plays

Mapping

Depending on the Variant of the build, use a different Rotation

No Navira's Fracturing

Interchange between Kelari's Deception and Kelari's Brutality. Use Ruzhan's Trap on Stationary League Mechanics and the Map Boss.

With Navira's Fracturing

Use Kelari's Deception until you have Chilled Ground, then use Navira's Fracturing

On stationary League Mechanics, use Nevira's Embrace or wait for Cast on Minion Death Ice Nova to create Chilled Ground, then hold down Navira's Fracturing.

Bossing

The key to nuking any boss in the game is undead Archon + Kelari's Deception.

Pre-place your Pain Offering and cast any other Comand skill to stack up Puppet Master Stacks and proc Undead Archon. Then hold down Kelari's Deception to nuke any Boss.

If the Boss is not dead, use Kelari's Brutality till you have 3 Uses of Kelari's Deception again.

Survivability

Minions

Minions are physical objects in the Zone, they can pull aggro from enemies and block Projectiles.

We can utilize them further with Loyalty or Romira's Requital and Essence Harvest or make them revive faster with Restless Dead

Energy Shield & Chaos Inoculation

The Bread and Butter Defense Layer of Caster Builds. Energy Shield acts as a Secondary Life Pool that Damage is taken from till it depletes. Normally, Chaos Damage is doubled against Energy Shield, but we can fully mitigate with Chaos Inoculation.

While the Tooltip for Energy Shield states that Poison and Bleed bypass Energy Shield, using Chaos Inoculation will also completely remove all Poison and Bleed Damage. Bleed doing no Damage is a known Bug, but a welcome one.

Energy Shield additional Mitigation

Energy Shield can be further utilized on Disciple of Varashta with Sacred Rituals to mitigate Physical Damage like Armour and do the same for Elemental Damage with Silks of Veneration.

Energy Shield Recovery

One Downside of having Energy Shield is that it cannot recover while taking Damage. Early on we can use Convalescence.

The better Solution is reducing the Recharge Delay. Disciple of Varashta also offers a solution here: The Fourth Teaching takes Base Duration away from the Recharge Delay (from 3 down to 2 Seconds) and with Faster Start of Recharge you can get it down to almost 1 Second, making the Build feel incredibly tanky.

How it Works

Undead Archon

Archon of Undeath is a Powerful Temporary Buff. By default, it has a Duration of 10 Seconds and is followed by the Archon Recovery Period Buff, which lasts 20 Seconds.

The only way of gaining Undead Archon is with the Archon of Undeath Notable and spamming Command Skills.

With the Archon Recovery Period being a Buff, returning to Character Select and logging back in will remove it, like all other Buffs. This is likely an unintended interaction and is considered a Bug.

Archon of Undeath Buff grants:

  • 25% more Minion Damage
  • 200% more Cooldown Recovery Rate of Command Skills
  • Temporary Minion Skills have 100% more Limit of Minions summoned
  • When gaining Archon of Undeath all Persistent Undead Minions are revived

Puppet Master

Puppet Master is a stacking Buff that grants various buffs to Command Skills and Minions. It is intended to reward a more active Minion playstyle. By default, the Buff can stack up to 5 times, with each Buff having an individual Duration of 8 Seconds. With further investment, the Maximum Stack Count can be increased to 11 and the Duration to 10 Seconds.

Puppet Master Buff grants:

  • 10% increased Skill Speed with Command Skills
  • 10% reduced Movement Speed Penalty with Command Skills
  • Minions deal 10% increased Damage with Command Skills
  • Minions have 2% increased Movement Speed
  • Minions have 3% increased Skill Speed.

It is recommended to aim for between 60 and 100% chance to gain a Stack on the Passive Tree.

Puppet Master cannot increase your Movement Speed with more than 100% reduced Penalty. It can only keep it the same as your Movement Speed.

Djinns

Djinns are persistent Minions that are always in your presence. Any Allies in Presence Modifiers on your Sceptre will affect them.

Each Djinn comes with a build-in Command Skill and up to 3 additional Skills can be unlocked with Ascendancy Points.

Unlike other Ascendancies, the Disciple of Varashta has very few small Ascendancy Nodes. The 2 Points into a Djinn will always grant the Base Djinn and one Specialized Skill.

Player Cooldown Recovery Rate does not affect Command Cooldowns, only Minion Cooldown Recovery Rate. Same for any Spell Damage Modifiers. Only Minion specific Modifiers affect the Djinns.

Hey, awesome guide. Especially due to in-depth mechanics explanation. Respect for it. One BIG question =) can you please explain in more details on wolfs explosion mechanic. I tried manual frost bomb + nova (reliable, but buttons), tried tame beast variant with that fly with ice trail built-in aura - still no go. My problem basically is that wolfs dying and then recover to slow by the feeling - in some videos I saw lads flying over the map shattering everything, but I have to slow down everytime to wait for wolf recover and go die again. Also would it be a problem to have much more ward energy then required by virisium gem ? I kinda screwed my equip by warding every piece lol, now need to buy anew.
