The Vaal Temple was introduced in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.4 Fate of the Vaal, and features a complex build-your-own-dungeon style mechanic. In each Vaal Temple, players can place room tiles on a 9x9 grid that chain together to increase the difficulty and reward of adjoining rooms. Within the Temple, players can also work their way to the boss of the area, Atziri

Guide
Building the Vaal Temple
Throughout Wraeclast, players will find Vaal Beacons that can be completed to gain a Chest reward as well as Energised Crystals that can be used to add new Rooms to the Vaal Temple. Once 6 Energised Crystals have been collected, players can enter the Vaal Ruins where they will be introduced to the 9x9 Grid system

Temple Console
Within the Vaal Temple, players will find the Temple Console which can be clicked to open the Temple Console Window, which includes the Temple grid and a set of Room Cards and Medallions that can be placed to expand the Temple

- Grid: The Grid represents the current Rooms that will exist within the Temple after players enter. Each Room has special bonuses and challenges that can be combined to produce unique results
- Room Cards: A random set of Room Cards will be offered to the player. These can be clicked to add a Room to the Temple in any of the highlighted green squares that appear. Not all Rooms are able to be connected to all other rooms, so placement here matters. Placing a Room will consume an Energised Crystal
- Medallions: While in the Temple, players can find Medallions from defeating monsters which allow Rooms with special modifiers to be added to the Temple. These Rooms cannot be offered in the usual Room Card shuffle. Players can gain up to 6 Medallion Slots, with the default being 3.
- Temple Mods: At the top right, a list of Temple Modifiers are listed which affects all monsters within the Temple. These modifiers are increased by adding different Rooms to the Temple. For example, a Guardhouse Room (Garrison Tier 1) adds 10% increased number of Monster Packs to the Temple.
Temple Room Types
There are several Temple Room types that can be added, each with their own bonuses in the form of additional Temple Mods, but also special Rewards, such as Currency Rooms, Chests, Corruption Chambers and Rooms that reward special new Vaal Currency Items
Most Rooms can also be upgraded up to a maximum of Tier 3 by connecting multiple adjacent Rooms of specific types together. This is where the real complexity of the Temple comes in - knowing which rooms can be connected to which and how rooms are upgraded is key in building a Temple that provides huge bonuses in the forms of increased number of Monsters, Rarity and Effectiveness. Rooms of a higher Tier grant higher amounts of their respective bonus, and some reward Rooms will grant special new Currency items.
Players will also be offered Path Rooms that don't provide any additional bonuses, but are instead used to expand the existing Path or connect rooms to one another

How to Unlock Atziri
Atziri, the boss of the Vaal Temple lies at the very far end from where players enter. In order to unlock the Atziri fight, players must first defeat the Architect and complete the Royal Access Chamber and the connect their main path to Aziri's Chamber.

Vaal Architect
The Vaal Architect can be found in the Architect's Chamber, which is a room that will generate on the Temple grid randomly. After defeating the Architect, players can interact with Xipocado's Console where they they will be offered three special Reward Rooms that can be placed onto the Grid. If the Royal Access Chamber hasn't yet been accessed, this will also be offered for placement which needs to be accessed and completed to unlock Atziri's Chamber
Destabilisation
After closing the Temple, defeating the Vaal Architect or Atziri, the Temple will be partially destabilised, removing various Rooms from the area. More Rooms will be destabilised when defeating the Architect or Atziri meaning that completing these fights isn't advisable for players choosing to instead build out a more elaborate Room-based Temple.
