Release Date

Path of Exile 2's Version 0.3 update, The Third Edict, will release on August 29, 2025. This update will be the second major update coming to Path of Exile 2's Early Access.

Act 4 & Interlude Acts

The Campaign will no longer contain a Cruel difficulty, and instead will be replaced by Act 4 and three "Interlude Acts." These will replace the leveling experience through the campaign and take you straight to endgame.

Act 4 will take place in the Karui Archipelago as you search for an ancient weapon. The Interlude Acts will be linear side stories meant to supplement the leveling experience/time to the end game.

You can find more information on Act 4 and the Interlude Acts in their standalone pages.

Support Gem Changes

Support Gem Limit Removed

Some major changes are coming to the support gem system. Support Gems are no longer limited to one per character. This means you can use the same Support Gem on multiple Active Skills.

Tiered Support Gems

Secondly, Support Gems now have "tiers." As you unlock higher tier Support Gems, certain Support Gems will have different tiers. They will usually become more powerful as you tier them up, but some may grant unique effects that make you decide whether you want to use a lower or higher tier.

Lineage Support Gems

lineage support gems

Lineage Support Gems are new Support Gems that are almost like Unique items. They grant very powerful and unique effects to your skills, and these are obtained through the endgame.

You can read more about them in our Lineage Support Gem Guide.

Sprinting

Sprinting has been added as a form of movement. This will allow you to quickly traverse through maps much easier than before.

This is designed to be used out of combat as a way to move through areas faster. Be careful to avoid sprinting while in combat.

Free Weekend

Path of Exile 2, The Third Edict, will be free to play during the weekend of August 29th 1 PM PDT to September 1st 1 PM PDT.

This will allow those without Early Access a chance to try the game out before deciding whether they want to purchase access.

Deflection & Armour

Deflection is a new mechanic tied to Evasion/Dexterity, similar to Spell Suppression in PoE 1. Deflection will be gained through Armour modifiers and Passive Tree points.

"Deflection Rating provides a chance to Deflect damage from Hits, preventing 40% of the damage from those Hits and Ailments they inflict. The exact chance to Deflect also depends on the attacker's Accuracy.

Deflection essentially acts as another defensive layer for Dex/Evasion characters.

New Modifier "% Armour Applies to Ele Damage"

Armour is also getting some extra defenses to work with as well. You can now gain "% of Armour also applies to Elemental Damage taken from Hits."

Like Deflection, this modifier can be rolled on Equipment and specced through the Passive Tree.

This gives Armour characters another defensive layer to build into if they so choose.

Rise of the Abyssal - League Mechanic

Rise of the Abyssal will be the new League mechanic for 0.3. If you've played PoE 1, you'll likely be aware of how Abyss works. Maps will essentially just have more monsters from the Abyss to fight, and defeating them will grant you rewards.

Abyss Crafting

Defeating Abyss Monsters will lead to a new currency type, "Bones." These Bones can be applied to specific items, granting them an extra modifier that you can choose from a pool of 3.

This league mechanic acts similarly to the "crafting bench" from PoE 1, allowing you to incrementally upgrade your character through the campaign.

Of course, crafting in the endgame can also produce powerful affixes not available normally.

Abyss will also include new Unique items, bosses, and more!

Endgame Changes

With Act 4 and the Interlude Acts introducing new monsters and bosses, the Endgame Atlas will now have 25 new endgame maps. These new map layouts will host new monsters and bosses to challenge.

The Atlas will also contain new boss encounters, similar to that of Citadels.

Atlas Tree Changes

The Atlas Tree sections for Breach, Delirium, Expedition, and Ritual will now grant the initial 2 passive points much sooner in the endgame. You will no longer need to challenge the Pinnacle Boss for your first two points, but rather need to complete a much simpler quest.

Such as defeating a Unique Monster during a Delirium Encounter.

Pinnacle Boss Splinters

Secondly, Pinnacle Bosses will now be accessed with Splinters, and you can challenge different level difficulties with a different amount of Splinters.

This means you will be able to challenge low level Pinnacle Bosses much sooner in your endgame journey.

Because of this, Pinnacle Boss difficulty is no longer tied to the Atlas Tree, and those old points now grant more Splinters instead.

Note: Uber Arbiter of Ash now requires special Fragments, which are obtained through Citadel bosses with your Boss Atlas Tree maxed out.

Crafting Changes

Version 0.3 is introducing major crafting changes.

New Currency Tiers

Currency Orbs will now have tiers that affect the tier of modifier you roll. For example, a Perfect Transmute will grant the best tier modifier.

Currency will now have regular, Greater, and Perfect Tiers. This also applies for Augments, Regals, Exalts, and Chaos Orbs.

This means from start to finish you can craft an item with the highest tier modifiers.

Essences

Essences will now have 4 tiers:

  • Lesser
  • Regular
  • Greater
  • Perfect

Lesser Essences will be more abundant throughout the campaign, giving you an easier time upgrading your items.

Perfect Essences are also a new tier, providing powerful bonuses, not just a higher magnitude of the lower tier Essences.

Exceptional Items

New Exceptional Bases will drop, having higher quality or extra sockets. Exceptional Unique items also exist.

Sanctified Items

sanctified items poe 2

Sanctified Items are a new way to try and create the best items. This will randomize the value of modifiers anywhere rom 80% to 120%, meaning you can reach values higher than possible before.

Sanctified Items can no longer be crafted upon, so this will often be the final step of crafting a mirror-tier item.

In the stream, we see a new Omen being applied to a Divine Orb to sanctify and item upon use.

& Much More

  • New Omens
  • Hinekora's Lock added

Major Trade Update - Async

A major update is finally coming to the Path of Exile franchise. Async Trade. With this new system, players will be able to setup shop and trade on the marketplace without needing to manually trade with players.

When searching up an item online, you can now immediately teleport to the hideout of a player and purchase the item through a merchant window.

You can also spend this time to peruse the other wares/items the player may have for sale.

For more information on this system, check out our full 0.3 Trade Update Guide.
