Witchhunter Galvanic Shards Explode Build
Build Overview
This build offers an enjoyable, mid-tier tank experience that can handle nearly all map content. Its extremely fast clear speed and exceptional pack-clearing potential make it an outstanding all-round class and build to play. The ascendancy's explosion chance is particularly effective for pack clearing, especially in Breach and Expedition encounters. This is because all monsters spawned from these mechanics are either Demons (Breach) or Undead (Expedition), granting an additional 10% explosion chance on death.
The build achieves over 50%+ Armor and 70%+ Evasion, with over 2,500 Life when equipped with good life-boosting items. It can easily cap resistances without requiring unique items, ensuring no hindrance to your resistance-capping capability. Prioritizing Chaos Resistance on gear is essential to maximize survivability.
Over the past three days, the only threats that have managed to kill this build are the following:
- Volatile Plants: Chaos Balls that chase you for six seconds.
- Chaos Crystals: Purple flower-like explosions triggered upon the death of rare monsters.
- Detonate Dead: Identified by a distinct "popping" sound with each corpse explosion.
Your primary clearing skill is Galvanic Shards, which excels at clearing maps efficiently. This is further enhanced by your ascendancy's explosion effect, Herald of Ash's overkill fire explosions, and Herald of Lightning's lightning strikes, creating a smooth and synergistic playstyle ideal for fast map clearing.
When facing a tanky rare monster, use your main skill, once shock is applied to the monster switch to Shockburst Rounds until it is dead, if the enemy shock drops off rinse and repeat this setup. Afterward, retreat to avoid any dangerous on-death mechanics.
Overall, this build is very enjoyable to play. I have personally been running it for several days and have reached Tier 15 maps with minimal deaths, aside from the three specific exceptions mentioned above.

Shockburst Rounds
UPDATE 18/12/24 -- So after some playtesting, it seems Shockburst rounds are incredibly strong on Rares / Uniques, you just need to reliably apply a shock to the enemy, BEFORE you fire Shockburst otherwise the damage feels abysmal. Therefore I will be updating the gem setup tomorrow with Shockburst and tree with potential changes to ensure shock is applied with Galvanic, then switch skill to Shockburst and apply the Mark on for 10% increased effect of Shock up to 34% inc Shock effect.
Due to the limited gem selection on buff gems, there isn't really much on offer for Herald of Thunder / Ash, however if you find any gems which would work better then these, then by all means swap and change them around. The build is interchangeable, and not strict.
Passive Tree
I have provided you with the first 88 levels, including all campaign skill points. From this point onward, I leave the decision to you regarding the direction you wish to take for the final 10–12 levels, should you strive to reach level 100.
You have the option to prioritize increased tankiness by investing in Armor or Evasion. Alternatively, you could focus on enhancing your projectile damage by delving deeper into the Ranger tree to acquire additional projectile damage nodes.
The choice is yours, guided by your playstyle and preferences.
How it Plays
Your primary clearing skill is Galvanic Shards, which excels at clearing maps efficiently. This is further enhanced by your ascendancy's explosion effect, Herald of Ash's overkill fire explosions, and Herald of Lightning's lightning strikes, creating a smooth and synergistic playstyle ideal for fast map clearing.
LEVELING
During the campaign take Fragmentation Rounds + Flashbang when you can, link Fragmentation with Double Barrel, and Flashbang with Scattershot. When steamroll through Act 1 with this combo of throwing flash grenades and then shotgun them in the face with Fragmentation Rounds.
Once you get to roughly Act 2 Quarry you should get Galvanic Shards, at this point swap to using that and when you get the first ascendancy, make sure you take the Zealous Inquisition for the explode chance. At this point the campaign should be a breeze, just make sure you are continuing to check the vendors and checking crossbow drops for high Physical damage % and flat physical damage rolls on a crossbow. This will then support the build and ensure you are doing maximum damage.
How it Works
The ascendancy's explosion chance (Zealous Inquistion) is particularly effective for pack clearing, especially in Breach and Expedition encounters. This is because all monsters spawned from these mechanics are either Demons (Breach) or Undead (Expedition), granting an additional 10% explosion chance on death. Naturally it gives every monster a 10% chance to explode, however for the two mechanics I just named, it provides those monsters with an additional 10% so 20% overall to explode. Therefore the explode chance is very high, and will easily clear screens upon screens of monsters in either of these two mechanics.
