Build Overview

Update: Testing new setup with Molten Blast.

This is original version of this build that used bleeding - https://mobalytics.gg/poe-2/builds/slam-chronomancer-paintmaster

Before you consider doing it, think twice and make sure you ready for slow gameplay, mace is currently worst weapon type in the game, and chronomancer is least popular ascendancy, deadly combo!

For trials go Trial of Chaos, way easier than Trial of Sekhemas, just need some luck without getting totally bad debuffs. Avoid corrupted blood stuff, any extra damage if possible, and reduced resists.

Shortly about build if you're not familiar with original:

  • Hammer of the Gods has long cooldown, normally can be used once.
  • Time Snap from Chronomancer ascendancy reset cooldowns allowing to use hammer again.
  • Now and Again grant 33% chance for skills to not go on cooldown, so you can cast multiple hammers before it goes on cooldown. Highest i had was 5 casts at once.
  • Rest of the build is more or less regular mace build. Which mean it's relatively slow, compare to pretty much any other build types.
  • While Giant's Blood is very good to use 2Handed Mace with Shield, during campaign you don't need to rush it.
  • Also Chronomancer has Circular Heartbeat and The Rapid River for defense. It's basically life regen you get after getting hit.

    About recoup:
    For example you take 1000 damage with 50% life recoup, by default you recover 500 life over 8 seconds or 4 seconds with The Rapid River.
    Each recoup instance is individual, you take 10 hits, you get 10 separate recoups.
  • For Venom Draught quest choose chaos resist and ailment threshold.

Build Variants

Normal setup with no uniques.

While if you can, you can try using some item rarity gear like Andvarius or Ventor's Gamble. If you could fix you resists and get enough strength without one ring.

Early it's not that important to rush for Giant's Blood, but later into the game that's your goal.

To make getting strength for Giant's Blood easier, can use The Vertex that lower attribute requirements by 50%. But its not cheap, and if you going to buy it, make sure to set price for exalts.

Gear above is example of minmaxed gear. Below explained what to look for.

About gear:

  • 2Handed mace with highest physical dps. Any flat elemental damage works too as cheaper alternative. Reduced attribute requirements mod if you want to use Giant's Blood and spend less on getting strength. Or lower level bases.
  • Shield (once you get Giant's Blood) with life, strength, resists, and preferably block chance.
  • Armour with life, resists, strength.
    Gloves with attack speed instead of extra resists if you can.
    Alternative for helmet is The Vertex, that lower attribute requirements by 50% for all gear. So you will need only half as much strength for Giant's Blood.
  • Belt and rings with life, resists, strength.
  • Amulet with life, resists if needed, strength/all attributes, life recoup.
    For Instil use something cheap like Defensive Reflexes.
  • Jewels, one jewel should have rage on hit and rage when hit, for other mods fire damage, mace damage, melee damage, fire penetration, empowered attack damage, armor, and few less useful mods.
  • Note: you can try to get enough accuracy on rings, gloves, amulet or helmet to drop Resolute Technique.

Some tips for buying gear:

  • Just in case, trade in PoE 2 already up - pathofexile.com/trade2
  • Do not bother that much with spending exalts on armor or jewellery during acts. While buying weapon upgrade one or couple times during campaign for 1-2 exalts will worth it.
  • Once you finish acts, first priority will be on getting 75% for all 3 elemental resists. Currently cheapest slots to get resists are armor. Can get good pieces for 1-2 exalts.
  • When searching gear on trade, make sure to limit price to 1-2 exalts or whatever amount, so you not buying something with higher price while there was cheaper option you simply didn't notice.
  • When buying 2H Mace, sort by physical dps. Prioritize weapons with no runes because you can add another 40% phys damage with 2 runes.
    So for example 370 dps mace with no runes will be better than 400dps with runes. As well as buying weapon with 4-5 mods so you can slam exalt for potentially good mod.

Tip: use your first Gemcutter's Prisms on Stampede for massive 30% chance for aftershock.

Hammer of the Gods main single target ability, can also use on slow and tanky rare mobs in maps.

Supports:

  • Fire Infusion simply grant more damage.
  • Primal Armament wording of this support might be confusing, but this is just 25% more damage.
  • Heft increase maximum damage of skill.
  • Concentrated Effect 40% more damage for cost of less area of effect, have to be more precise with using hammer.
  • Second Wind as last support. Or swap with Heft or Concentrated Effect for bosses.

=============================================================

Perfect Strike is stun build up ability, or skill to kill agile rare mobs in maps.

Supports:

  • Window of Opportunity more damage.
  • Martial Tempo just to charge it faster.
  • Impact Shockwave due to limited number of supports, this is atleast useful while mapping. Rares will be stunned in 1-2 hits, so it will trigger Aftershock that does same damage as perfect strike and kill any mobs in fairly big area.

=============================================================

Stampede clearing skill. I tried all other skills available on mace for clearing, stampede just feels best.

Note that quality on this skill is huge skill get 30% chance for Aftershock at 20% quality, with Aftershock and tree passives it goes up to 68%. Aftershock does same damage as skill, but has even bigger AoE because of tree passives like Aftershocks.

Supports:

  • Aftershock explained above.
  • Magnified Effect more AoE.
  • Momentum for more damage.
  • Fire Exposure to apply -20% resists debuff, in case fire penetration will not be enough.
  • Or instead of Momentum and Fire Exposure you can use Devastate with Armour Explosion, but note that armour explosion was nerfed. In any case just try it.

=============================================================

Leap Slam movement/utility skill.

Supports:

  • Holy Descent ground effect that grant life regen.
  • Jagged Ground ground effect that slows enemies.

=============================================================

Infernal Cry to use for both clearing and bosses.

Seismic Cry mostly on bosses, as you wouldn't bother searching heavy stunned mob to get empower from this warcry. On bosses you have to heavy stun them and then use it.

On bosses you start with Infernal Cry.

If you have issues with mana, don't level them, use lowest possible level, infernal cry is lvl3, seismic cry is lvl11.

=============================================================

Herald of Ash for clearing. Can put Fire Mastery there.

Time of Need extra recovery. Use Fast Forward to make it heal more often, every ~7 sec instead of every ~10 sec.

Overwhelming Presence to stun easier.

For remaining 10 spirit can use Clarity, with more spirit get Vitality or/and Cannibalism.

=============================================================

Time Snap with Ingenuity for lower cooldown.

Arcane Tempo for faster casting.

Try Second Wind until you get it on hammer, could be good.

And Unbreakable to lower chance of being stunned while casting it.

Passive Tree

set 1:

set 2:

I'd suggest starting with melee, but if you want, do other build for leveling then full respec.

Start by going down to Relentless Vindicator then to Relentless.

Next Singular Purpose, Polished Iron, Resolute Technique.

Then Split the Earth with small passive, Heavy Armour and Avatar of Fire.

After that you take Burning Strikes with Fulmination.

Then Vocal Empowerment and after that whatever you need, more damage first or more strength.

Atlas Tree

For this build i'm using this atlas tree. At first you take waystone sustain Constant Crossroads.

Then you go to Deadly Evolution that grant 1-2 mods for all rare mobs and bosses.

Then Twin Threats for more rare mobs.

Then Local Knowledge for overall extra loot and Resonant Lattice for essences.

Rest of trees made for more slower builds like this one.

How it Plays

Clearing:

  • Stampede most of the time with using Infernal Cry.
  • Perfect Strike for rare mobs, if needed Hammer of the Gods.

Single Target:

  • You can start with Hammer of the Gods + Perfect Strike, also use Infernal Cry.
  • Once boss is heavy stunned if its still alive, use Infernal Cry and Seismic Cry to boost next Hammer of the Gods.

How it Works

Explained above.
