Build Overview

Use Shield Charge for clearing instead of Shield Wall, because there's bug that make Shield Charge never go on cooldown with Now and Again. More about this in Skill Gem section.

Before you consider doing it, think twice and make sure you ready for slow gameplay, mace is currently worst weapon type in the game, and chronomancer is least popular ascendancy, deadly combo!

For 3rd ascendancy Trial of Sekhemas is easy once you get relics with total 75% honour resist. For floor 3 boss better to have chaos res so you just facetank him and nuke with hammers.
For 4th ascendancy Trial of Chaos seems easier. Avoid corrupted blood stuff, any extra damage if possible, and reduced resists.


Shortly about build if you're not familiar with original:

  • Hammer of the Gods has long cooldown, normally can be used once.
  • Time Snap from Chronomancer ascendancy reset cooldowns allowing to use hammer again.
  • Now and Again grant 33% chance for skills to not go on cooldown, so you can cast multiple hammers before it goes on cooldown. Highest i had was 5 casts at once.
  • Rest of the build is more or less regular mace build. Which mean it's relatively slow, compare to pretty much any other build types.
  • While Giant's Blood is very good to use 2Handed Mace with Shield, during campaign you don't need to rush it.
  • Also Chronomancer has Circular Heartbeat and The Rapid River for defense. It's basically life regen you get after getting hit.

    About recoup:
    For example you take 1000 damage with 50% life recoup, by default you recover 500 life over 8 seconds or 4 seconds with The Rapid River.
    Each recoup instance is individual, you take 10 hits, you get 10 separate recoups.
  • For Venom Draught quest choose chaos resist and ailment threshold.

Build Variants

Temporary solution for very good clearing.

Since its Dex/Int aura, you might want to get Amulet with All Attributes or/and Dex/Int. I'm using level 10 Herald of Ice and its enough even in T18 maps. So you don't need to invest hard into Dex/Int.

Do not invest much into at as it will most likely be nerfed.

HOW IT WORKS:

Polcirkeln with Herald of Ice and Cold Infusion on any skill you want to use for clearing.

Combo is simple, Stampede can chill, Polcirkeln cause chilled enemies shatter on kill as if they frozen, and Herald of Ice trigger explosion on shattering enemy.

As of now Herald of Ice can chain off itself, plus its AoE is fairly big. So it can clear 2 screens away.

Second gear set use TWO 2H maces for single target.

Regular price for ~600pdps mace is around 30ex. You can find good mace for less by setting up live search. Ofcourse you're not only one who doing this, so will take a while to get one.

About gear:

  • 2Handed mace (FOR CLEARING):
    High phys damage, low enough requirement for you to be able to use it, and decent attack speed preferably. That's baseline. Then stun build up, strength, stun duration, life leech.
  • 2Handed maces (FOR SINGLE TARGET):
    Priority is on getting "+# to level of All Melee Skills", with high phys damage, stun build up, strength, stun duration, etc. Attack speed is helpful but not needed.
    Preferably get Life Leech on one of Maces, or anywhere else like Ring on Gloves.
  • Shield (once you get Giant's Blood):
    High block chance, Life, strength, phys damage reduction.
    If possible cap resists without shield so you will be capped even if swapping for second weapon set with 2 maces.
  • Armour:
    - Life, resists, strength.
    - Gloves with attack speed instead of extra resists if you can.
    - Alternative for helmet is The Vertex, that lower attribute requirements by 50% for all gear. So you will need only half as much strength for Giant's Blood.
    - Morior Invictus with %life + %attributes, or %life + %resists is good option for body armour.
    - Trampletoe to swap for bosses, boost damage of hammer by multiple times.
  • Belt and rings:
    - Life, resists, strength.
    - Polcirkeln, with good roll and corrupted enchant, like skill speed or life regen.
  • Amulet:
    - Life, resists if needed, strength/all attributes, life recoup.
    Also "+# to level of all melee skill" (for single target, optional for clearing).

    For Instil use something cheap like Defensive Reflexes for clearing or Titanic as slightly more expensive option for 5% strength and stun build up. Just in case, you CAN change instil on amulet.
  • Jewels:
    - One jewel should have rage on hit and rage when hit, for other mods any type of damage, damage with maces, melee, etc. Then Stun build up preferably.
    Other lower priority mods: warcry speed, weapon swap speed.
    - Against the Darkness jewel with 4% strength on notable passives in jewel socket next to Split the Earth.
  • Note: you can try to get enough accuracy on rings, gloves, amulet or helmet to drop Resolute Technique.

Some tips for gear during campaign:

  • Do not bother that much with spending exalts on armor or jewellery during acts. While buying weapon upgrade one or couple times during campaign for 1-2 exalts will worth it.
  • Once you finish acts, first priority will be on getting 75% for all 3 elemental resists. Currently cheapest slots to get resists are armor.
  • When searching gear on trade, make sure to limit price to 1-2 exalts or whatever amount, so you not buying something with higher price while there was cheaper option you simply didn't notice.

Some notes:

Second Wind is used for Time Snap until you get last 5th support socket for Hammer of the Gods then use it there.

For clearing use Shield Charge instead of Shield Wall.

Because currently there's bug with Now and Again and Shield Charge, so basically, if your first Shield Charge in map did proc Now and Again, Shield Charge will have no cooldown during that map, if it didn't proc Now and Again then shield charge will never proc it during that map.

Atlas Tree

For this build i'm using this atlas tree. At first you take waystone sustain Constant Crossroads.

Then you go to Deadly Evolution that grant 1-2 mods for all rare mobs and bosses.

Then Twin Threats for more rare mobs.

Then Local Knowledge for overall extra loot and Resonant Lattice for essences.

Rest of trees made for more slower builds like this one.

How it Plays

Clearing:

  • Stampede most of the time, can use Infernal Cry.
  • Perfect Strike for rare mobs, if needed Hammer of the Gods.

Single Target:

  • Drop Solar Orb, use Leap Slam for Holy Descent.
  • If you use Trampletoe, use Shield Wall same way as Solar Orb, also after pressing HotG, you have time to place 1 Shield Wall before it drops.
  • Once boss appeared use Infernal Cry then Hammer of the Gods.
  • Once boss heavy stunned also use Seismic Cry.
