Build Overview

Take this build guide with a grain of salt as we are still in beta testing of the game and with constant balance updates from GGG, some things might change over the course of the season. Also, some of the later nodes are based on theorycraft as reaching level 100 is a lot of grind 😂

This is a Spark build focusing on maximising its damage through several buffs as is Mana Tempest , Flame Wall and most importantly Archmage with Arcane Intensity .

For that reason we are focusing on getting as much mana and intelligence as humanly possible as mana is also our main defensive stat through Mind Over Matter and Eldritch Battery (which makes us lose all Energy Shield). Intelligence not only gives us increased mana pool, but also DPS increase through Pure Power .

Because we are not gonna be using life as our life pool, we are gonna pick Chaos Inoculation to get chaos damage immunity, which will further boost our defensives together with Enfeeble .

We will also have insane Crowd Control with Electrocution thanks to Kitoko's Current gloves making enemies die before they can even start moving!

LEVELING BUILD

We can play heavy Energy Shield build right off the bat as that will give us tons of survivability as well as mana management through items like The Everlasting Gaze and passives like Pure Energy , Mana Blessing , Insightfulness and Essence Infusion which are extremely close by at the beginning of the tree and combined are very powerful.

Another option is tri-element path. Use Flame Wall to boost Frostbolt with Unleash mid-air to instantly freeze enemies and then finish them off with Spark. Taking Path of Storms, Path of Winter for easier CC and more damage, and then Echoing Frost , Echoing Thunder and Echoing Flames plus eventuallyStormbreaker to maximise on extra damage per ailment. Get Kitoko's Current ASAP, especially following this path.

Build Variants

This variant focuses on maximing DPS with high risk high reward playstyle as our only source of life will be mana through Mind Over Matter.

In comparison this build gave me double the damage of Everlasting Gaze build! It also plays way smoother thanks to insanely high cast speed, but needs some mana management if you do not want to get one shot. Personally this variant feels like WAY MORE FUN!

As this is a build heavily focused on applying many ailments and boosting its damage through doing so, Kitoko's Current gloves are a definite must have! As electrocution will also further boost our survivability by crowd controlling the enemy. They also give us Dexterity to more easily reach 52 to activate Voltaic Mark which is especially powerful early on while we use Cast on Shock instead of Archmage as we won’t have enough stats to support it yet. In single target we will proc Cast on Shock almost every second thanks to the mark. GET THEM ASAP! Preferably right at level 26 as that will immidiately fix all your "Squishiness".

Another must have piece of equipment is Midnight Braid which gives us mana back based on the damage we take, which is especially important when using Mind Over Matter to sustain our mana better.

You can also play Ingenuity which gives you increased effect of equipped rings and thus you can get another bulk of stats. It costs even several hundred exalted orbs tho. And is absolute BiS especially in combination with Dream Fragments, which is not just in hundreds, but several thousands! These two items together are the best combo you can get in the game. But very likely you never will 😂 That is why I do not list it as core part of the build.

For a weapon we want to use Wand and Focus as our main set and a Staff with Sigil of Power as our secondary set.

Stat priority for a weapon

  • 4-5 Extra ranks to Lightning skills
  • Extra damage as lightning damage

Stat priority for armor pieces (generally the most important is to MAX OUT resistances, we can help ourselves with runes, but preferably we want to keep those open for better options increasing our max mana)

Stat priority for focus (Focus is kind of a mix of a weapon with a shield)

  • Spirit as we want to reach 140-170 (we get 100 from finishing the story in normal and cruel story) for both Archmage and Mana Remnants with Clarity and later on for Cast on Shock ( If you want to use both Archmage and CoS in end-game, you might also need it on chest)
  • Damage recouped as mana - MUST HAVE
  • Maximum Energy shield (+ not %)
  • Mana
  • All elemental resistances (or Resistance to X to reach cap)

Anointment on the amulet will be Harness the Elements as we are gonna build 4 ailments on enemies and thus it will give us 60% elemental damage!

Focus on getting 4 support slots for Spark and for Orb of Storms asap! You can do that by using 1x Lesser Jeweller's Orb and then gambling with Vaal Orb. It might take some time and eventually you will have to get another set of these abilities as we will need to unlock 5th slot as well, which cannot be done after the gem was corrupted. But 5th slot won't come online for a long time! Unless you are lucky with drops to buy it early.

We are gonna use Pierce as our support gem of choice on Spark as we are instilling amulet with Harness the Elements with this build and thus it will be our only source of piercing. We will more than make up for it in DPS by playing full Sapphire gems with Cast speed and either Elemental, Lightning or Spell damage modifiers, with Cast speed being one of the best stats for DPS increase on Spark. The insane amount of Cast speed will also let us activate and weave spells much faster, which will in turn give us even MORE Cast speed thanks to Casting Cascade.


Personal recommendation for first 3 support gems on Spark, for a mix of AoE and Single Target DPS, is Arcane Tempo, Persistence and Pierce. In this setup we are instilling Harness the Elements and focusing on Sapphire jewels as we will only have mana as our life and no Energy Shield whatsoever. Thus we are keeping Pierce the whole time. You can also choose to get 5x Emeralds with 20% projectile pierce and thus you could slot in Rising Tempest, but those are really hard to come by and will cost us %mana on kill and thus reducing our sustain. Then we get either Inspiration for better mana sustain or Acceleration for more damage as our 4th slot. With the other one of the two being our 5th. Early on I recommend Inspiration to be used on Mana Tempest with Culling Strike and Premeditation as we won't have enough mana and stats for Archmage to come online. And DPS gem on Spark plus mana conserving gem Mana Tempest will grant you the highest DPS.

For our Orb of Storms, we want to get Magnified Effect with Conduction and Lightning Exposure asap. I recommend asking in trade or looking online for Uncut Support Gem 3 to unlock Exposure as they go for like 0.01 exalted orb these days and you can get them right at the beginning of the game. Or ... almost. If you cannot get your hands on them, then definitely go for Font of Mana for better mana sustain instead. Which will later become either your 4th slot or 5th slot depending on whether you need extra mana regeneration or whether you just wanna do more DPS through higher exposure. We can also use Overabundance instead of Conduction for more on demand DPS with two orbs active at the same time!

As I previously stated, we are gonna start with Cast on Shock as it is much easier to get rolling and in combination with Voltaic Mark it procs all the time even after the nerf letting us one one shot bosses/priority mobs. Once we have enough stats to start using Archmage, we will remove it

To better sustain mana, we are also using Mana Remnants with Clarity and early and mid levels, before we can sustain Mind Over Matter , we will also use Cannibalism with Vitality (if you can only use one, use cannibalism)

Once we have enough stats and sustain in our build with items like %mana on kill Jewels, we will remove Mana Remnants and put Cast on Shock back in to further increase our, mostly single target, damage. For that reason, get 170 spirit combined on amulet and chest to be able to also use Clarity on our Archmage.

Archmage + Lightning Mastery +1 skill from corruption and 20% quality (high risk high reward of corrupting after maxing out quality) is the BIGGEST DPS INCREASE we could ever get as it will exponentially scale with our mana.

This build focuses on curses to get extra survivability ( Enfeeble ) and reduce enemy resistances ( Conductivity ) combined with applying Lightning Exposure using Orb of Storms to make enemies take ungodly amounts of lightning damage with no way to protect themselves against it. Combine this with Scouring Winds that increase the base exposure from 20% to 40% and Overexposure and we are looking at more than -100% lightning resistance on enemies combined!

Our curses also gets further boosted with passives like Master of Hexes, Lingering Whispers, Impending Doom, Fated End and Zone of Control making them extremely potent in our build.

Conductivity will also keep spreading on enemies thanks to Hex Bloom and thus we won't have to keep recasting it while chain pulling or in big pulls in general.

Chaos Inoculation is not recommended before you have at least 3000 mana, maxed out elemental resistances and a few jewels with %2 mana per kill to have infinite mana pool = infinite life.

We have 123 skill points to distribute, but each skill points lets you distribute both weapon set 1 and weapon set 2, meaning we can essentially go over 123 skill points and power up our build if we use weapon sets accordingly. In our case it is DPS abilities W1 and curse abilities W2.

Once we have enough cast speed and hit hard diminishing returns, we will remove Casting Cascade to get just flat damage increase. For exampleBranching Bolts that can actually make our Spark chain! Or Power Conduction that increase the magnitude of our shock and thus DPS. But early on without Cast Speed on items and jewels, this branch is the highest DPS increase

We are taking Constant Gale and Strike Twice as our first 2 Ascendancies followed either by Force of Will if you have loads of mana already or Scouring Winds if you do not to further boost our exposure.

For jewels, we are gonna be using Sapphires as those give us the most benefit for our build, most importantly MANA ON KILL. This build also focuses on taking as many jewel sockets as possible to maximise on this stat as eventually we every pack we fight will give us full mana back all the time.

  • 2% Mana on kill - MUST HAVE ( this will allow us to have literally infinite mana, especially when we get more of these, which in turn will also make us immortal as infinite mana = infinite life thanks to Mind Over Matter , especially since this build does not use The Everlasting Gaze )

Emerald (in case you are not playing Pierce, get at least 80% through Emeralds instead)

How it Plays

VS bosses or groups with priority target

  1. Curse enemies with Enfeeble and Conductivity from afar
  2. Mark priority target with Voltaic Mark
  3. Place down Orb of Storms
  4. Place down Flame Wall
  5. Place down Sigil of Power
  6. Activate Mana Tempest (be careful with the usage here, do a few hits and leave)
  7. Hold Spark and watch the enemy BURN!

VS adds:

  1. Place down Orb of Storms
  2. Place down Flame Wall
  3. Use Voltaic Mark for more DPS and Cast Speed through Casting Cascade
  4. Activate Mana Tempest (be careful with the usage here, do a few hits and leave)
  5. Hold Spark and watch the enemy BURN!
