Equipment
Amulet anoint:
Cheap: High Alert
Expensive: Essence of The Mountain
Ring: Thiefs torment is only needed for bosses, can use different rings for mapping. It's the only source of mana on hit in the game, so without the ring you'll instantly run out of mana on bosses. Not really needed in low tier waystones, but once you get to high tier waystones, you'll most likely need it.
If you cant afford thief's torment, then grab "Mental toughness" on the passive tree and use inspiration on your cast on shock setup over energy retention.
Only need 100 spirit for this build, read below in the skill gem info for setups.
Gear:
Bow: Get the highest dps bow possible. phys/cold is preferable, but phys/lightning is fine as well. Fire is the least desirable stat as you don't have fire pen. +1 arrow bow is optimal but it's not required at the start, it vastly improves your clear speed. On a budget you can skip the +1 arrow.
"increased elemental damage with attacks" is another useful mod
Quiver: Good stats to look for. flat dmg to cold or physical, increased damage with bow skills, attack speed, dexterity, projectile speed, level of all projectile skills and mana on kill (generally want one source of mana on kill).
Gloves: Hand of wisdom and action are optional, but provide a big damage boost for the price. You don't even need to stack dex/int to make them worth. Although extra intelligence on gear will boost your damage if you can get it on a few piece (int will give more dmg then dex).
Every other slot is life/resist(with movement speed on boots), it's important to reach 75% resist in all 4 stats. You will also want int or dex on gear, as you'll need both stats. Preferable one high dex roll on the quiver solves it all.
You do want a high evasion chest (2k+ evasion, can sacrifice life here).
While not needed, if you feel like you're lacking damage then getting flat damage on rings/gloves can give a lot of dps.
You need minimum 95 int for ball lightning/cast on shock. (lvl 11 gem for ball lightning and lvl 8-11 gem for cast on shock). Note they can be higher lvl, but it'll require more intelligence.

Support Gem Requirements:
Str 10
Dex 65
Int 50
Lightning Arrow
Lightning Rod
Herald of Thunder
Herald of Ice
Wind Dancer
Orb of Storms
Cast on Shock
Voltaic Mark
!!!Important!! Self cast voltaic mark if you can't reliably shock bosses to proc your cast on shock. If you have enough damage this isn't needed. You can instead put voltaic mark on your cast on freeze setup (check the other build variants).
the 5th/6th link isn't needed for any skill. The links are listed in priority.
5l Priority. Lightning arrow > orb of storms > lightning rod > cast on shock. Same priority for 6l (only Lightning arrow and rod want a 6l)
Only need 100 spirit to make this work. Can take off herald of ice/lightning on bosses and put on cast on shock (or eventually get 50 spirit from gear)
If you have 150 spirit, then you can do cast on freeze for map clear and cast on shock bosses. Can take the herald reservation nodes to save 2 spirit per a point if you need to.
Mapping setup with 100 Spirit: Herald of ice, herald of thunder, wind dancer.
Boss setup with 100 spirit: Cast on shock and wind dancer.
Mapping setup with 150 spirit: Herald of ice, herald of thunder, wind dancer and cast on freeze.
Bossing setup with 150 spirit: Herald of ice, herald of thunder, wind dancer and cast on Shock
You need at minimum 95 int for ball lightning/cast on shock. (lvl 11 gem for ball lightning and lvl 8-11 gem for cast on shock). Note they can be higher lvl, but it'll require more intelligence.
Can lvl orb of storms to the highest lvl that you can use.
If you cant afford thief's torment, then grab "Mental toughness" on the passive tree and use inspiration on your cast on shock setup over energy retention.
Gem quality Priority:
Lightning Rod > Lightning Arrow > Ball lightning > cast on shock.

You can either take dex, int or str on your small nodes. It just depends on the stats you need and what gear you buy. You will need around 35-40 str, 95 int and 200~ dex in the endgame.
Go for acrobatics when you reach around 65%~ evasion with tailwind activated and acrobatics allocated.
If you need extra spirit, you can take the Herald reservation nodes by coming calamity to save 2 spirit for 1 point each.
Good jewel mods: attack speed, bow dmg, proj dmg, ele dmg, lightning damage, bonuses gained from equipped quiver and movement speed.
Ascendancy order: Gathering winds > point blank > endless > wind ward
Preferable want one mana on kill jewel or get mana on kill on quiver or on your ring. If you get a mana on kill jewel, you can also get another useful mod like freeze buildup or elemental damage.
How it Plays
Map clear is lightning arrow/lightning rod.
For bosses you place down orb of storms and spam lightning rod. Your orb of storms/ball lightning does 0 dmg, they're only here to constantly proc your lightning rods, which is all of your damage on a boss.
How it Works
Frequently Asked Questions
- I’m not shocking with lightning rod/my cast on shock isn’t working, what can I do?
- Try selfcasting voltaic mark and then place down orb of storms.
- Use conduction or overcharge on lightning rod
- How to freeze enemies with Herald of Ice?
- Getting enough flat cold on bow, quiver or rings can easily solve it. (adds # to # cold damage to attacks)
- If you still aren’t freezing try Polcirkeln(ring), this will shatter any chilled enemy and make it really easy to freeze.
- Can also try Apshyxia’s wrath(quiver)
- Freeze buildup on jewels can also help
- Amulet anoint “Essence of the Mountain” (expensive)
- You can also try using ice shot with the same links, one issue with ice shot is that the skill doesn't work with lightning rod.
- The final solution is getting an "Against the darkness" with "damage as extra cold damage". This does cost divines, but solves all of your freeze issues.
3. How to solve mana issues?
Try to get one jewel with mana on kill or mana on kill from quiver.
Take "mental toughness" on the passive skill tree.
For pinnacle bosses you really need thief's torment, theres no other option
4. I can't use my cast on shock or freeze?
You need to put a skill gem in your cast on shock or freeze first or the game wont allow you to turn it on.
5. What did you choose for Vials?
Act 3 - ailments, Act 6 - chaos res
6. What runes to put in my gear/bow?
For weapon you usually want Iron runes. You also want iron iron runes for your chest. Gloves/boots/helmet can be whatever resist you're missing.
7. I feel squishy how can I get tanky?
Deadeye by nature is very squishy. You really want all resistance cap, 2k life and preferable very high evasion with acrobatics. The difference between 65% and 75% evade is massive and you'll feel the difference.
8. Why do you use cold infusion on HoT/Light infusion on HoI?
This allows your Herald of thunder to freeze and your herald of ice to shock, giving you insane clear speed. As HoT can't shock and HoI can't freeze, you're simply trying to swap their elements so they can proc off of each other. Do note you usually need around 5-6k herald damage for this to comfortable work in T15+ maps.
