Intro

While exploring the ocean, many divers will eventually become frustrated with their swimming speed.

That is where Swim Speed Upgrades come in.

These upgrades come in the form of Biosampler enhancements or additional equipment that increases your movement speed.

Let’s first talk about the Biosampler.

How to Upgrade at the Biosampler

First, you need to find the Old Complex with the Biolab.
It's not far from your spawn point, being southeast.

Old Complex

Once you have found the structure, you will need a Basic Battery to power it.

After restoring power, the lights will turn on, allowing you to interact with the Biolab inside.

Active Biomods

You can choose 2 different upgrades:

  • Active Biomods
  • Passive Biomods

Eventually, you can have multiple passives but only 1 active.

The first active is the Dash ability. It has a 5-second cooldown and can be used to increase mobility or get out of danger.

Passiv Biomods

There are also 2 passives to choose from; the one we want is the Sea Skimmer.

This increases your movement speed when you are close to the seafloor.

Getting your first Diving Fins

To get your first Fins, craft them using the Fabricator.

They increase your diving speed only slightly, but every bit helps.

You require:

  • 2 Rubber
  • 2 Fiber

Basic Fins

To craft Rubber, you need 2 Rotsacks, which look like this:

Rotsack

Fibrous Pulp is required to craft Fiber, which is gathered from cutting aquatic plants with your Survival Multitool.

Making the Wakemaker

The Wakemaker is your first real upgrade in the speed department, but it requires a bit more exploration and materials to craft.

First, you need to scan 3 of the wavemakers' fragments that are found in crash sites or abandoned research sites.

Wavemaker Fragment

After acquiring the blueprint, you can begin crafting it.

This requires:

  • Silver x1
  • Grease x1
  • Wiring Kit x1
  • Basic Battery x1

Silver can be found inside caves. One of the earliest caves is located north of the spawn area, while others can be found further away.

Grease is crafted using:

  • Rotsack x1

A Wiring Kit is crafted using:

  • Silver x1
  • Copper Wire x1

A Basic Battery is crafted using:

  • Copper x2
  • Acid Pouch x1
