After clearing the Orc Cemetery quest, players will start Chapter 3: Artifacts of Ancient Power. The first quest in this Chapter is “The Water Mages’ Plan”.
Head back to your camp to complete “The Brotherhood’s Plan” quest. Then, talk to Diego, who will direct you to Saturas, the Highest Water Mage, and tell you to meet him in the Fogtower afterward.
NOTE: At this point in the story, you will be given the option to become a Warder or a Fire Mage. Speak to Thorus in the Old Camp to know more about it. Both options provide valuable rewards and progression options, so consider completing either of them before continuing the story.
Saturas is located in the Water Mages’ headquarters, in the back of the New Camp cave. From the New Camp entrance, go up the cliff path, past the dam, and enter the cave to the left. Then, head back to the elevated area in the back. The two guards will question you at the gate, so you’ll need to explain that Saturas wants to see you.
Saturas can be found in the lower library room, to the right of the entrance. He will ask you to retrieve the Focus Stones hidden across the Valley of Mines to aid in their escape attempt.
To continue the storyline, go meet Diego in the Fogtower - the ruined lighthouse to the far East of the map.
Where to Find The Focus Stones
The Focus Stones is a mandatory story quest in Gothic Remake. In this quest, you will need to explore four different locations and retrieve hidden Focus Stones to aid the Water Mages.
First, head over to the Fogtower in the East of the Map. You’ll find Milten, Diego, Gorn, and Lester sitting on the right side of the Tower. Talk to them to start “The Focus Stones”.
You’ll need to travel to various locations across the map and retrieve the four Focus Stones for Saturas. You can find more details about each location in our specific guides:
The Focus in the Monastery Ruins
The Focus in the Troll Canyon
The Focus in the Mountain Fortress
The Focus below the Stone Circle
The Focus in the Monastery Ruins
This quest is part of the main quest “The Focus Stones” and “The Water Mages’ Plan”. After learning about the different Focus Stone locations, players will need to head to the Monastery Ruins in the Northeast and meet up with Gorn, who will explain the situation there.
First, Gorn will ask the player to follow him to the ravine below. After dealing with the Snappers on your way, Gorn will then give up and ask the player to enter through the main gate to the Monastery. While you’re there, make sure you pick up the Scroll of Transform into Meatbug from the library room in the ravine.
Then, head over to the Monastery gate. You’ll have to find a way to enter and open the gate for Gorn. Luckily, there is a small opening in the left side of the wall, near some Meatbugs. Use the Scroll of Transform into Meatbug you got earlier to enter through the opening.
The Monastery courtyard is filled with Snappers. Try to deal with them one, blocking their jump attack or otherwise rolling backward to avoid getting hit. Then, head over to the gate and open it for Gorn.
Afterward, walk over to the opposite side of the Courtyard to trigger a Juvenile Troll fight. You’ll have to fight him. The best strategy is to bait his attacks, dodge backwards, and retaliate afterward.
At this point, you can explore the various rooms in the Monastery Ruins to get several potions and valuable loot.
To get to the Focus Stone, you’ll have to enter the cave on the second floor of the Monastery, which is filled with Snappers.
Make your way down the tunnels until you reach a Shadowbeast and take it down. The safest way to deal with the Shadowbeast is to circle around the cave pillars to bait his attacks and then hit once or twice and run back. You can also stagger it by doing downward strikes with your weapons.
After this, you’ll reach a cliff with the Focus Stone. Claim it and head back through the Monastery hallway instead of the cave - You’ll find several rooms filled with loot, including potions, scrolls, and runes.
Head back to Gorn at the Monastery gates and tell him about the Focus Stone. To complete the quest, head back to Saturas in the New Camp and hand over the Stone.
The Focus in the Troll Canyon
This quest is part of the main quest “The Focus Stones” and “The Water Mages’ Plan”. After learning about the different Focus Stone locations, players will need to head to Troll Canyon, in the far North of the map, and meet up with Milten.
Follow the path north from the Old Camp and walk through the forest until you reach an area with several Snappers. After dealing with them, continue up north until you find Milten waiting at the entrance to the Ruins.
Follow him into the ruins and into the cave. He’ll ask you to retrieve Troll Skin to make a Scroll of Shrinking Monster to use against the Troll. You can find Troll Skin on the left side of the ruins, opposite the cave. You’ll need to be quick, though, as several goblins and the troll will become hostile.
There are three Troll Skins in this area. After you’ve collected them, head back to Milten, and he’ll craft the Scroll. You can wait until the troll walks near the cave and cast the spell from there. Then, deal with the troll and the goblins in the area and open the gate alongside Milten.
Go into the upper level and deal with the Harpies. Then, grab the Scroll of Telekinesis and use it on the blue crystals in the bridge to create a bridge. You’re free to retrieve the Focus Stone and give it to Saturas to complete the quest.
The Focus in the Mountain Fortress
This quest is part of the main quest “The Focus Stones” and “The Water Mages’ Plan”. After learning about the different Focus Stone locations, players will need to head to the Monastery Ruins, in the Southern part of the Map, and meet Lester there.
You’ll see a Stone Golem on the bridge. To defeat it, use a Blunt weapon (there’s one in the carriage nearby, alongside a Health potion). Then, walk up the path until you see the entrance to the Fortress, and defeat the Harpies guarding the entrance. You can shoot them down with a headshot or wait until they use their melee attack and retaliate afterward.
Once you enter the Fortress, you’ll see three paths - The left one leads to the Basement, filled with strong Skeleton enemies and some loot. The path forward leads to an opening with a chest across a bridge. The right path leads to the Focus Stone and the upper part of the Fortress, containing several puzzles and loot.
Left Path - Basement
Head down the left path from the fortress entrance. You’ll have to fight several Skeletons. These can hit hard in early levels, but are easily staggered with downward melee attacks. Head down to the lower level, defeat the Skeletons there, and grab the Cellar Key from the body.
The Cellar Key opens the jail doors in the Basement, allowing you to pick up valuable loot from the chests inside, including an Amulet of Magic.
Forward Path - Chest
If you continue forward from the fortress entrance, you’ll find a chest across a broken bridge. You can’t reach it by normal means - Instead, you’ll need to use a Transformation Scroll that lets you fly (such as the Harpy or Bloodfly) and fly over. It is safest to use it at the top of the fortress tower to avoid losing height.
This chest contains extremely valuable loot, including the Crossbow of War and a Potion of Supremacy.
Right Path - Focus Stone
The right path leads to the upper levels of the mountain fortress. First, go up to the second floor to see the Focus Stone location, although you won’t be able to reach it just yet. Instead, go around the tower, go up the stairs, and take the first room to your right. This area is optional, but it’s filled with chests, so it’s recommended to enter it.
Go through the various rooms until you find a bigger room with several shelves. Some of these can be activated to open a secret passage. Look at the status atop the shelves and interact with them in this order: Swampshark, Wolf, and Molerat. This will open the passage through the fireplace and you’ll reach the secret area in the fortress.
Loot everything in the area, then go up the ladder and drop below to find a new room. Behind you is a bedroom with a locked chest that you can’t open - You need a special key for it that you can find atop the tower.
Go the other way and go up the staircase until you find an opening in the wall. Once you get close to the edge, you’ll be given the option to climb the wall to the next floor.
Then, continue until you reach the top of the tower. You’ll find a chest containing the Tower Key, which unlocks the chest in the secret bedroom. Head back down and open the chest to find the Royal Guard Armor, one of the best you can find at this point in the game.
Go back to the room that leads to the top part of the fortress and the bedroom with the locked chest, and exit through the opening in the wall to get the Focus Stone.
Finally, go back to Lester in the fortress entrance and inform him about the situation. Give the Focus Stone to Saturas to complete the quest.
The Focus Below the Stone Circle
This quest is part of the main quest “The Focus Stones” and “The Water Mages’ Plan”. After learning about the different Focus Stone locations, players will need to head to Stonehenge, in the Southeast, and meet Diego there.
The safest way to Stonehenge is the road south from the New Camp. Players will encounter monsters like Scavengers, Wolves, Lizards, and Biters on their way. Once in the ruins, head over to the glowing spot in the center and talk to Diego.
He’ll ask the player to follow him, and then light up four stone pillars to open up the ruin entrance. Afterward, several Skeletons will appear. Take them down and enter the ruins with Diego.
The place has several blue markers high on the walls, which can be hit with arrows or bolts to be activated. You can open the side rooms this way, which have some potions and minor loot.
Continue down to the lower room, and you’ll find a Zombie and several Skeletons. This Zombie cannot be killed by normal means and must be destroyed using the device in the room. You’ll need to shoot the three blue markers in the room to fire an energy bolt in the center of the arena, which will deal damage and stun anything hit by it - Including the Zombie.
Repeat this process three times to take down the Zombie and retrieve the Focus Stone from him. Then, loot the potions in the room, talk to Diego, and give the Stone to Saturas to complete the quest.
Flames to the Flood
Flames to the Flood is a mandatory story quest. After handing over the five Focus Stones to Saturas, he’ll ask you to meet Corristo, the Highest Fire Mage, in the Old Camp.
While you’re in the Old Camp, you can meet Santino in the elevated hut right above Fisk’s in the southern part of the Camp. He will buy the Land Deed that Lester gave you after completing the quest “The Focus in the Mountain Fortress”.
Accept, and he’ll give you one thousand Ore and show you a secret passageway into the Castle. You can use this tunnel to sneak in, in case Thorus won’t let you through the main Gates.
You can find Corristo and the other Fire Mages in the courtyard. Talk to Corristo, then to Milten. This will trigger a cutscene. Follow Milten, and he’ll ask you to inform Saturas about the situation.
Finally, speak to Saturas to start Chapter 4: Xardas
