Intro

Rock and Stone!

Today, we are taking an in-depth look at one of the three Gatekeepers in DRG Rogue Core: the Molaktula Gatekeeper.

This is by far the hardest Gatekeeper currently in the game, and for good reason. He can only be encountered from Depth 03 onward.

First, we will go over the boss’s abilities, and afterwards, we will take a detailed look at the best strategies for defeating him.

Molaktula Gatekeeper

Molaktula Gatekeeper's Abilities

The Molaktula Gatekeeper has 4 different attacks, each with its own condition that triggers it.

Besides these attacks, large waves of enemies will continuously spawn throughout the fight, making the encounter significantly more complicated.

Tentacle Attack

The boss will only use melee attacks if you are within melee range. These attacks deal quite a lot of damage, and I would highly recommend avoiding his melee range altogether if possible.

Homing Shard Attack

If you stay further away from the boss, he will begin using his ranged attacks. These shots do not deal much damage individually, but he fires them in large volleys, making them feel like a barrage of needles that slowly stack up over time.

They also home in on your location, meaning they only target one player at a time.

Rising Spike

After Phase 2, the boss will start causing spikes to erupt from the floor, dealing massive damage. He will use this attack constantly, so make sure to keep moving at all times to avoid getting hit.

The ground will glow red in the areas where the spikes are about to appear.

Yellow Orb

After Phase 2, the boss will begin firing slow-moving yellow orbs with roughly 300 HP that home in on one of the players.

These orbs do not deal damage directly. Instead, when they reach a player or the ground, they cause large spikes to erupt beneath them, dealing massive damage. These will continue to erupt for as long as the orb is alive.

Whenever one appears, destroy it as quickly as possible.

Strategy

Around the arena, a large number of ammo crates are placed. Do not waste them on the enemy waves during the buildup phase — save them for the boss itself.

These crates provide both ammo and armor, which are extremely important during the fight.

Boss fights often do not contain any Red Sugar, meaning there is no reliable way to heal. As a result, armor becomes your only reliable way to recover during the fight.

Phase 1

During Phase 1, the boss will only use his melee and ranged attacks, making the fight fairly straightforward except for the fact that enemies will already begin spawning during the first phase.

Just keep moving to dodge the homing bullets and maintain your distance so he cannot use his melee attacks.

Phase 2

Once you deplete the first Shield Bar, Phase 2 begins, which acts more as a transition phase. This happens every time you deplete his Shield Bar.

The boss will become invulnerable until you throw an orb into the gate. This was not too difficult before, but this time it is much harder. He will split the orb into three pieces and scatter them around the arena. All three pieces must be thrown into the gate to trigger Phase 3.

Orb Pillar

It is not all bad, though, since during Phase 2, zero gravity will affect the entire arena, and the boss itself will remain stationary and inactive. The same cannot be said for his minions.

Focus on collecting the orb pieces and throwing them back into the gate. Each piece will be frozen inside a rock, making them fairly easy to spot. In addition, a tether from the boss will point toward each piece, helping you locate them.

Phase 3

This is the last actual phase the boss can enter because once you deplete the shield bar, he will simply return to Phase 2, after which he will eventually enter Phase 3 again.

During Phase 3, chaos will start to erupt. The boss will begin using his Rising Spike attacks and Yellow Orb attacks. This makes the fight much more complex because you now have to deal with minions, ranged attacks, and positioning all at once.

Destroy any yellow orbs you see. Otherwise, the arena will be littered with spikes.

YellowOrb

The best way to survive this phase is to keep moving at all times and constantly watch the ground, since that is where you can see where the spikes will appear.

Aside from that, focus primarily on the boss, but do not ignore the minions. They will continue spawning until the fight is over and can eventually overwhelm you if left unchecked.

Keep this up, and you should be able to defeat the Molaktula Gatekeeper!
