Overview

The Gothic 1 Remake is finally here, and if you’ve started playing already, you’ll know how important it is to get ore. Ore is the currency of the Colony: from buying armour, to weapons, progressing, getting upgrades and more, having ore and good currency will make or break your game.

This Mobalytics Post is made in conjunction with our friend, ItalianSpartacus.

The Old Mine

The first tip is an exploit, which may be patched sooner or later. If you’re reading this guide at the launch of the game, then I would recommend exploiting it while you can!

In The Old Mine, there are ore veins which you can mine with a pickaxe. After gathering 15+ ores, they will eventually stop producing ore. You can do this to all of the 6 ore veins in The Old Mine, and this can provide you with at least 90 pieces of ore per run. Once you have drained all the veins, you should save the game and reload it.

By reloading the game, you will reset all the ore veins, which can allow you to get another 90 pieces of ore. If you do this several times, you can make quite a lot.

Ore

Selling to Merchants

Selling to the Merchants is a great way of making additional ore. Selling unused or weaker equipment that you no longer need, such as swords or axes, could be a good way of getting some good early ore; however, you do need to be careful.

Selling multiple items of the same type to the Merchant at once actually decreases the amount of ore that they will give you. Some items will give you a worse rate, so it’s good not to spam the Merchant.

Merchant

Herbs are good to sell to Merchants as they’re convenient and easy to get. If you do not intend to use them, then you could sell them as well. However, some Herbs such as the Flame Root, Healing Root, Mild Healing Herbs, Goblin Berries, Dragon Root or King's Sorrel will be useful later on as they can give you permanent buffs like HP, mana, etc.

Explore Everything

Exploration is really important in Gothic 1. While there is no guarantee you’ll find ore, you could find items that you do not need to buy, or items you can sell for a quick profit. For example, opposite the North Entrance at the beginning of the game, there is a hidden camp near the river inside a cave.

In there, you can find Miscap and an old chest with lots of good resources, such as ore, a bow, lockpicks, and more. This can save you both time and money.

Make sure you explore every nook and cranny of the map to find free swag.

Chests

Pick Every Lock and Every Pocket

Similar to our previous advice, make sure you pick every lock possible. If you do what we previously suggested, you will have more locks to unlock more treasure to find. You should go to Fingers once you have enough ore/learning points and have him teach you both Lockpicking and Pickpocketing.

During the day, you should sneak around, explore every room, as basically all rooms in camps have a chest in them, which you can steal from.

Lockpicking

Pickpocketing is slightly harder, and can be done during the day and night, but it is slightly harder during the day, as it will be easier for you to be seen. Walk up behind people and look for their little satchel pocket. If the bar is almost full, they could be a good target for a robbery. If the bar isn’t full, then it could be worth avoiding them.

When Pickpocketing at night, and when people are asleep, look around the room for more things such as chests, food and potions- basically more stuff you can steal.

Hunting Skills

Learning Hunting Skills from Drax is another way of getting a lot of ore later in the game. While it does cost quite a lot to do early, the rewards are well worth it. Find Drax under the tent and get him to teach you how to hunt.

He can teach you how to Remove Teeth, Fur, Claws and how to Skin Reptiles. As you progress through the game, you will be using these skills quite frequently and using the resources that they give you.

You can use them to upgrade your weapons and armor, as well as make lots of ore by selling them to Merchants. By prioritising Hunting Skills early, you will be able to get your upgrades quicker and progress through the game faster.

Camp Escort Missions

Doing Camp Escort missions is another good way of getting a ton of resources, ranging from XP, ore and random herbs/useful materials. There are 2 Camp Escot missions: 1 in the New Camp and 1 in the Swamp Camp. I recommend doing these missions early as they can give a ton of XP, and you can level up quickly.

While being escorted, make sure you loot the bodies of the enemies that your escort kills, as it can give you a ton of things to sell to the Merchants. Sometimes, your Escort might die…and you can loot them as well.
