Rathian doesn’t have a set habitat and can be seen in the Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, and Oilwell Basin.
Rathian’s attacks are mostly physical, but its signature tail flip can Poison hunters. Bring
Antidote to help. Improving your
Fire Resistance will help mitigate damage from its fireballs.
Like other Flying Wyverns, Rathian can be knocked out of the air with a well-timed Flash Pod.
Rathian’s tail is especially deadly, so you can bring severing weapons to chop it and make the fight easier.
Tail Swipe
Rathian tilts her head back before doing two 180 degree tail swipes. Dodge beneath Rathian or out of the way.
Charge
Rathian can dash forward almost instantly. Dodge sideways. When enraged, she can chain up to three dashes.
Fireballs
Rathian rotates her neck and repositions to spit fireballs. One when she’s not enraged, or three if she is. She will fire to the left and then right, so dodge accordingly. This attack sometimes creates a temporary wound on Rathian’s head after.
Empowered Fireball
Rathian can also walk backwards and prepare a larger fireball that detonates on impact and deals more damage. If you see it coming, dodge sideways. This attack sometimes creates a temporary wound on Rathian’s head.
Tail Flip
Rathian’s signature move is her tail flip. While in the ground or the air, Rathian can flip forward, attacking with her tail and causing Poison. This attack deals immense damage but leaves her exposed after.
Severing Rathian’s tail will lower this attack’s range and it will no longer Poison. You can knock Rathian out of the air with a
Flash Podtoo.
Double Tail Flip
When enraged, Rathian can chain two tail flips back to back, often repositioning in between them. Don't get baited and reengage too early after the first.
Broken Wings
After breaking Rathian’s wings, she will often fail to get in the air, causing a short opening.
Rathian’s weakest body parts are her head and tail tip.
If you have a severing weapon, focus on chopping her tail off, which will greatly reduce the range of her tail attacks.
Rathian has turf wars with the likes of Rompopolo, Arkveld, and Quematrice.
