Monster Hunter WildsBalahara Guide - Weaknesses, Location, Armor & More

Video Guide

Overview

Balahara is seen for the first time in Monster Hunter Wilds. This sandworm is infused with electricity for a fast and dangerous fight although it is a relatively beginner-friendly monster. Spotted in the Desert region of the Windward Plains map, among the Sandstorms and Sinkholes.

This guide is written by @DerekTheMage.

Location

Balahara is primarily found in the Desert Locale and is not known to roam very far, because of this fact it makes them very easy to track down.

  • Zone 13: This will be the main Zone to find Balahara.
  • Zone 14 and 15: Both of these Zones are places to find Balahara when it is retreating or sleeping.

Environmental Factors

Rock Perch

It climbs one of the many protruding rocks and perches on the end, shooting 3 mud balls at the nearest hunter before it descends. It can be knocked off the rock by dealing enough damage causing them to fall vulnerable on the ground.

Mechanics to Look Out For

Waterblight

Many of their projectile-based attacks will cause the affliction Waterblight to be applied. This will reduce your stamina regeneration to one-third the normal rate, it can be removed with a Nulberry.

Corkscrew Attack

It prepares for a lunge in which its body follows its tail as it spins towards you. This attack helps them maneuver across the battlefield rapidly.

Tail Spike

After coiling its tail it Attacks with a quick stabbing motion, it is easily dodged by side-stepping.

Dive

Balahara dives under the sand while moving rapidly, when they emerges they will do one of 4 things;

  1. Create a Sinkhole, a fairly small divot in the sand that will pull any Hunter in that stands too close. When Enraged this Sinkhole will be much larger and pull you in much more. The Sinkholes close after a while.

  2. Emerge into the air at high speeds Attacking you with a Bite Attack before disappearing back under the sand. The Bite Attack can be repeated multiple times after he uses it, this will have it dive back out of the ground for more.

  3. Spit a small mud projectile towards the player while remaining partially submerged.

  4. Lastly, it may attempt to flee.

Electric Bite

A short-ranged Bite Attack infused with electricity dealing a moderate amount of Damage. Due to its short range, it’s easy to backstep away and hit them with a Focus Attack leaving them vulnerable.

Sand Explosion

Spits a large Explosion of mud at the target directly towards the front. Telegraphed by it standing on its hind legs, this Attack can be avoided by rolling to either side of them.

Weak Spots to Focus

  • Body Weak Points: Mouth
  • Severable Points: Tail
  • Breakable Points: Head

Mouth

Their mouth is the most consistent Weakspot and should be targeted often. It is temporarily open to a Focus Attack when they use one of their Sand projectile Attacks, or Bites.

Tail

Its tail is one of its main forms of Attack, but it is Severable, helping to reduce any Damage or range from these Attacks.

Turf Wars

Balahara can be found having Turf Wars with Chatacabra, Doshaguma, and even Rey Dau. When dueling it out with Chatacabra or Doshaguma, its high mobility gives it a fair chance at victory. However, when put up against Rey Dau, Balahara struggles to keep up and often takes massive damage before being forced to retreat.
