Overview

Marvel Rivals' newest limited game mode has finally been released. Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol is an Auto-Battler game mode where players assemble a top-tier team composition and fight against one another in several rounds of battles.

Here at Mobalytics, we’ve already invested a significant amount of time and effort in creating numerous guides to help you get started, which you can find here.

In this guide, we are going to cover some basic strategies and tips and tricks to help you get started in this beginner’s guide. We will discuss the likes of economy, positioning, and team compositions and list some of the best characters to play!

Know Your team Comps

When picking heroes or characters to join your team, you should be on the lookout for heroes that synergise well with one another. Many heroes can “team up” with one another to make them more powerful, so keeping an eye on who works with one another is beneficial.

In this game mode, you have a variety of team compositions you can play. For instance, you could go 6 duelist, 6 vanguard, or 6 healer! You can pick anything, and it will work in some way or another. However, we find that you’ll have higher success by picking a mix of tanks, damage dealers, and utility and having some form of team-ups across your team.

Here are some team compositions that we've had a lot of success with so far. For more team compositions, head over to our team comps page!

6 Duelists

This team composition utilises 6 duelists, all in the back row. They synergise well with one another and deal tons of damage. Focusing on maximising Onslaught (red cells) will help deal extra damage.

Ragnarok Rebirth

This team composition, which utilises 2 of each class, focuses on achieving a more balanced team composition. Instead of maxing onslaught like our previous team comp, go ahead and try to get max stats in Equilibrium.

Pay Attention to Board Placements

A benefit to this game mode is that you can constantly adapt the positioning of your characters, so if something isn’t working for you, then you can adapt the positioning accordingly. Also, in the later stages of the game, you can adjust your positioning to counter your enemy.

As a general rule of thumb, you’ll want to keep the heroes who will be providing utility or healing at the back, as they need additional protection and are ultimately quite vulnerable.

Towards the front of your team, you’ll want your tanks or divers to engage the enemy as quickly as possible, allowing them to start soaking up damage.

For the heroes that will be dealing ranged damage, you should have them at the back with your healers so they can dish out damage while remaining relatively safe. It can be unwise to put a ranged hero at the front, especially if they’re squishy.

If you scroll back up and look at our team comp examples, you’ll notice that pretty much everyone is next to another hero or there is another hero nearby. It is beneficial to have heroes grouped to prevent the enemy from focusing on just one hero and killing them quickly. For instance, it is not a good idea to have 1 hero in the front row and then 5 at the back, as the front hero will die too quickly.

Manage Your Economy

Managing your economy is very important in all auto-battler type games. You should have a slight idea of what you want to buy before spending your credits, or else you’ll have to sell your purchases at a reduced rate. This isn’t much, but it doesn’t help in the long run.

For instance, if you’re going for a team composition that relies on duelists to carry (such as the 6 duelist comp), then you’ll want to prioritise buying modules and upgrading the Onslaught category as this buffs damage.

There are a few different strategies, but each one depends on your playstyle and the team comp you’re playing but a good rule is to not buy every single round and only buy good modules that work on your team comp (like we suggested above). Avoid wasting credits by purchasing low-quality modules that do not fit your comp, such as green modules when playing a red comp.

S-Tier Recommendations

Each character has its pros and cons, and they need some help from their team and the team comp to completely flourish. However, while playing, we have seen some stand-out heroes who are really strong right now.

  • Vanguards: Venom.
  • Duelists: Storm, Squirrel Girl.
  • Strats: Loki, Jeff, Adam, Invis Women.

If you can, try to build team comps that 1) have good synergy and 2) are full of strong heroes or S-tier picks.
