Varus Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths

Can stay safe while poking and farming with his Piercing ArrowQ from a really long distance. This poke can be really obnoxious for the enemy team and will send them scampering. Helps him in covering up his weakness due to his immobile nature.

Has inbuilt Grievous Wound in his kit. His Hail of ArrowsE slows as well, which makes it really easy for him to deal with healers and engage Support champions. This can be really advantageous in a team fight.

His Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR provides utility for his team and can allow him to get key picks which will help him close out the game. The projectile moves swiftly so it is quite easy to land as well.

Weaknesses

Very immobile and can be easily killed if crowd control is layered on him. All-in Supports hiding in a lane brush while waiting for him will naturally zone him off the minion wave.

Extremely vulnerable while his Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR is down. He can be flanked with ease as well and assassin’s can easily get rid of him if his team forgets to peel for him.

Improper usage of his Hail of ArrowsE can lead to lost team fights. In lane, using his Hail of ArrowsE improperly will allow any form of enchanter and mage Support to walk up to him and poke him down with ease.

Game plan
Early game
0 - 15 min
Varus is Average

Play safe for the first few levels. You need time to come online and you shouldn’t be fighting unless you have a clear early advantage.

Constantly push and poke the enemy with your abilities. Once they’re low, you can look for an aggressive all-in. However, while kills are nice, your goal is to poke and not commit to fights.

After destroying the bottom lane tower, rotate to the mid lane and try to take that tower. This will open up the map and give your team a gold lead.

Mid game

Try and stick with your Support throughout the mid-game. You’re quite vulnerable and easy to kill if you’re on your own. By staying with your Support, your survivability will increase.

Continue picking up farm in the side lanes when no team fights are occurring, but spend as little time away from your team. You need gold and XP to buy items and if you fall behind, it will be unlikely that you’ll be able to dish out damage in fights.

Look for picks with your Support/Jungler to get kills and increase your lead. If you kill a key target, you could make the call for Baron.

Late game

Varus is Strong

Just like in the mid-game, you should stick with your Support throughout the later parts of the game. Do not go around the map alone as you will die easily.

Do not play super aggressive in team fights. Just kite and auto-attack the nearest enemy champion. If you walk too far forward, the enemy will focus you and take you down.

Continue to kite in team fights and consistently adapt your positioning. Avoid standing still in fights as you’ll be an easy target.

Power Spikes
Early game0 - 15 min

His Piercing ArrowQ poke is powerful during the early game. Depending on the build, the poke amount will vary, but it is his most reliable poke spell in the lane.

Once he hits level six, his kill pressure skyrockets. He can now use his Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR to CC enemy champions and then work with his Support to layer CC on the said target.

Varus' first item is going to give him a huge power spike. This simply means that his burst damage combo will do a lot of damage and can completely destroy any immobile or CC'd carry.

Mid game15 - 25 min

At level 11, Varus will be able to add 2 points into his Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR. This makes it really easy for Varus to pick off enemies, especially when Varus is trying to swap lanes.

His first ability will be maxed out at level 9. This will allow him to deal a lot of damage to his opponents in the lane. It will also provide him the incentive to carry for his team if he is already ahead.

Varus' AoE poke and Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR make clumped fights disastrous for the enemy team. They will suffer if Varus manages to get an excellent Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR during neutral, objective fights.

Late game25+ min

At level 16, Varus will be able to add 3 points in his Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR. It will increase the damage dealt by the ability while simultaneously reducing the cooldown.

Varus will have a lot of items during this stage of the game. This will let him dish out a lot of damage, and his burst potential due to his Blighted QuiverW will be phenomenal.

Varus is excellent in team fights due to his Piercing ArrowQ and Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR. A good Ultimate Chain of CorruptionR can literally allow Varus' team to win a significant battle with minimal effort.
