Sucrose Build Guide

Amplifying Reaction teams:

Mavuika:

Vaporize: Mavuika - Mona - Sucrose - Iansan

One of Mavuika’s strongest teams although particularly tricky to play at a high level, even by Mavuika standards. Mona's Hexerei Buffs and the Celestial Gift set have made this team a more than viable alternative to Melt or Overload teams.

Arlecchino:

Melt: Arlecchino - Citlali - Sucrose - Bennett or Nicole

Sucrose functions as one of the best fourth slots here, competing mostly with Xilonen. Sucrose's additional Cryo Application with Burst can certainly be made use of, although the rotation might have to change.

Vaporize: Arlecchino - Mona - Sucrose - Bennett

By far Arlecchino’s best Vape team. Mona’s Hexerei buffs and the Celestial Gift set have made it competitive with Melt, sometimes better with good enough play. Harder to play than Melt. Check out the Arlecchino guide for more advanced tips.

Mualani:

Mualani - Sucrose - Mona - Mavuika

Typically Mualani's strongest team nowadays. Mona applies relatively little Hydro and at low enough uptime to not interfere with Mualani's Vapes. Sucrose's buffs get solid uptime in this team.

There are many more such teams Sucrose can be great/good in. She forms a great duo with Mona, and she will be an at least competitive option in any Melt or Vaporize team. The above are a few of the examples in which she is the best choice in.

As an EM Buffer for EM-scaling teams:

Lunar Teams:

Flins - Columbina - Ineffa - Sucrose

Sucrose is the best 4th slot for Flins teams. Other alternatives might come close to her, but none are better without 5* Constellations.

Nefer - Columbina - Lauma - Sucrose

One of Nefer’s best 4th slots, typically the strongest purely in terms of DPS. Teamwide EM means buffing both Nefer and Lauma’s EM, which is more valuable than Nahida’s single-target EM. Sucrose can utilize either Deepwood or Instructor here, but the setups for both are different and the build requirements on the rest of the team change.

Stellar-Conduct:

Sandrone or Wriothesley or Cyno or Traveler (Cryo) - Yae Miko - Sucrose - Odette

Although Sucrose comes with the ( occassionally significant ) drawback of not providing the team with any sustain, she will often be the undeniably strongest damage option for all of the above carries. She's most notable for the Cryo Traveler, who has to sacrifice nothing for their team to gain full uptime on all of Sucrose's buffing. She can be a little finnicky for the others, and might require certain modifications to make her truly stand out.

Both Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers and Wandering Evenstar are excelelnt weapon options for her in these teams. TTDS often requires slightly different rotations and a minimum rotation length of 21 seconds, so Evenstar will often be better. Sacrificial Fragments is also a strong option, especially to provide extra Energy in Stygian Onslaught.

Note that it is possible to swap the order of Yae Miko and Odette in the rotation and still be able to Swirl Cryo instead of Electro. This will allow for better buff uptime on Yae Miko and Odette and represent a modest DPS increase.

Stellar Swirl:

Sandrone or Yumemizuki Mizuki - Sucrose - Odette - Traveler (Cryo) or Qiqi

The most natural slot-in. Sucrose's buffs will oftentimes be full uptime in these teams, and even more valuable than usual. Sandrone has a harder time getting Stellar DMG Bonus in SSW teams due to the lack of a set option that provides it, while Mizuki is the character that benefits the most from EM ni the game.

Miscellaneous

Sucrose is also able to take on the role of an on-field Driver in a team like Columbina / Ineffa / Fischl. Teams like Xingqiu + Xiangling + Bennett used to make this role much more relevant, but they’ve fallen significantly out of favor.

Like mentioned in the overview, Sucrose can be a useful support for a team like Varka or Lohen, as an Anemo and a Hexerei unit. Her own buffs however are hardly useful in such teams, making her an accessible alternative rather than a top tier option.

Teamwide Buffing Option: Wandering Evenstar

Great for any ATK based team if Sucrose can’t pass TTDS every rotation, especially teams with multiple ATK scalers like a Flins or Sandrone team. The secondary EM stat is also useful for her EM buffing.

On-fielder Buffing Option: Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers

Often the best option if able to be passed on every rotation like in a Sandrone team, but most teams do not have long enough rotations of 21 seconds or more to make this consistent.

Utility alternative: Sacrificial Fragments

High EM secondary stat helps Sucrose buff more, while the Skill cooldown reset passive can potentially smooth out rotations significantly. Sucrose will be able to use Skill twice on pretty much every rotation, generating more Energy and letting her maintain higher buff uptime in a team like Nefer. Also typically Sucrose's best option in almost every team if she doesn't have C1, as her Skill cooldown is otherwise too long.

Teamwide Buffing alternative: A Thousand Floating Dreams

Nahida’s Signature and technically the best weapon if all Sucrose is doing is using Skill or Burst and swapping, at least if the above options aren’t doing a whole lot. The first part of the passive is usually useless, as she doesn’t make use of DMG% and is often the only Anemo unit in the team.

Energy alternative: Favonius Codex

If the team or Sucrose herslef really needs the Energy, this is a fine option that might make building Sucrose harder than otherwise.

BiS Option: Viridescent Venerer

Will always be Sucrose’s best set if the team’s main damaging Element is one that can be Swirled ( Pyro / Hydro / Electro / Cryo) though the uptime can be finicky Sucrose’s EM buffs themselves have short uptime, so Sucrose ends up being in positions in the rotation that give VV more than good enough uptime most of the time.

Alternative: Instructor

he best option in teams whose main Elemental Damage profile isn't a Swirlable Element, but Sucrose can still cause the Swirl reaction in. The best example is a Nefer team using a setup that lets Sucrose Swirl Hydro. The team deals negligible Hydro damage, but makes excellent use of the extra 120 EM.

None of Sucrose's Talents are important to level. They do not improve her buffing and only increase her own Talent damage scaling on her Skill and Burst, which is negligible.

Overview

Sucrose is a teamwide EM buffing Support who additionally gains significant utility through her Artifact sets and Weapons. Sucrose’s gameplay loop is fairly simple: trigger Swirl on Swirlable elements, hit enemies with her Skill, possibly cast her Burst and switch out.

None of Sucrose’s buffs are contained in her talent levels; they are all contained in her Ascension Passives. This makes her an exceptionally cheap character to build. Her most useful Constellation is C1, with C6 having some more limited uses. She is one of the most accessible support options in the game.

Ascension Passives & Buffing

Sucrose’s Ascension 4 passive will buff the EM of all party members by 20% of Sucrose’s EM for 8 seconds whenever either her Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst hit an enemy. The uptime off just her Skill is short, but it’s a strong enough buff to be worth it. It can also be extended to have essentially full rotation uptime with her Burst, although her Burst is hard to use every rotation.

Her Ascension 1 will give an extra 50 EM to teammates of the Element Sucrose triggers a Swirl reaction on. A decent bonus for something she will typically do fairly naturally.

Elemental Skill

Sucrose’s Elemental Skill will Anemo damage in an AoE around the target enemy. It has a 15 second cooldown and generates 4 Anemo Particles if it hits an enemy. The second charge she gains from C1 will share cooldown, so she will generate 1 charge every 15 seconds.

Note that this Skill’s particle generation has a short cooldown of 0.4 seconds, and with her C1, it is possible to cast both charges fast enough so the second one hits within 0.4 seconds. If you want the extra Anemo Particles, you'll have to stagger the casts a little.

Elemental Burst

Sucrose’s Elemental Burst will throw a Large Wind Spirit at the target enemy. This has a baseline duration of 6 seconds that becomes 8 seconds with C2. The Wind Spirit will pulsate every 2 seconds, dealing Anemo DMG to all enemies within its range. Its hits will also trigger Sucrose’s Ascension 1 and Ascension 4 passives, granting them much higher uptime.

If Sucrose’s C6 is unlocked, the Wind Spirit will also be able to infuse itself with Pyro, Hydro, Electro or Cryo if an enemy afflicted by one of those Elements is within its radius.

This Burst has an Energy Cost of 80 and a cooldown of 20 seconds, making it quite expensive to use. Unless Sucrose needs to use this every rotation for Elemental Application purposes, it is not recommended to go out of your way to build enough ER for it beyond using it every other rotation.

Multiple Swaps in One Rotation

Sucrose is able to swap in and out if necessary to refresh the duration of VV and her EM buffs. This is most useful in Flins and Nefer teams, but it has its uses in many others.

Burst Infusion

Sucrose’s Burst infusion can be difficult to pull off consistently, both due to limited range but also its cooldown desyncing with most shorter rotations that are common nowadays, Energy Recharge issues, and potentially unwanted application. The teams its best at are teams that dont care a whole lot about the infusion, like the aforementioned Flins and Nefer or Sandrone.

Sucrose was officially released as a playable 4-star Anemo character in Genshin Impact on September 28, 2020, during the Version 1.0 update.
