Mistfall Hunter is a multiplayer dark fantasy extraction Action RPG in which you play as a Gyldhunter and descend into corrupted maps in which you'll fight Corroded monsters as well as rival players. It features Solo and Trio matchmaking, and cross-play between PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.
The Mercenary fits the standard melee fighter archetype. One of the best choices for newcomers thanks to its straightforward kit, it features two distinct playstyles: Sword and Shield and Hammer. With powerful Skills like Earthshaker and Impalement, the Mercenary shines in extended fights.
Blackarrow fights with a bow, using rapid shots, charged arrows, and special projectiles to pressure enemies from afar. One of the best offensive options for players who like keeping constant DPS from a safe distance.
The Sorcerer wields complex spells through arcane chants, gestures, and magical tools. They have access to a wide variety of offensive and defensive spells, being able to control the flow of battle through precise casting and timing.
Seer characters draw strength from their faith, using prayers and divine arts to heal, protect, and support allies. It excels in Trios, being able to keep their team alive even through the most intense battles with Skills like Healing Rune and Psionic Shield.
This class also has a Blasphemer branch, focused on offensive dueling and using offensive spells to overpower their enemies by themselves using the Unleash Zeal Skill.
The Shadowstrix class is fit for assassinating enemy players in short windows. Having access to stealth, high mobility, and fast melee strikes, they can create more combat opportunities than any other class.
It is arguably one of the hardest classes to learn, as its high-risk, high-reward playstyle demands high mechanical precision. Its Skills, like Sneak, Shadow Strike, and Spinning Slash give the Shadowstrix great mobility and engage options.
Withered Knight is a Melee fighter class that focuses on applying the Wither status to enemies, using it to inflict high damage and a range of debuffs.
It features two distinct weapon branches: The Greatsword has great damage and Skills like Parry and Thorn Guide that allow it to quickly finish off enemies, while the Polearm and Shield can defend allies with tools such as Sacred Bulwark and Intervene.
Aside from Classes, Mistfall Hunter features deep character customization through gear, talents, and affixes.
As you complete games, your character will level up, gaining new Talent points and gaining access to new Skills, Talents, and other perks. You will also be able to join higher-rank expeditions in which you'll face more experienced players and difficult PvE bosses.
Gear and Inventory
Your inventory functions similarly to other Extraction games:
The Supply Bag and Tactical Items slots hold usable items like Potions, Throwing Knives, etc.
The Inventory holds any loot obtained during an expedition.
The items placed in Keychain and Pip's Pouchwill not be lost even when you die.
The Equipment Hub shows your current loadout, including primary and secondary weapon, armor set, and equippables like pendants and rings.
Talents
Talents in Mistfall Hunter are passive abilities and enhancements to your character. As you level up, you unlock more Talent Points that you can slot into Talent Trees.
To maximize their effectiveness, you should equip Talents that enhance the Skills currently equipped.
Affixes
Gear pieces in Mistfall Hunter have Gem Slots where you can equip Affixes. These grant additional stats and effects. Special equipment pieces come with fixed Affixes that can't be changed.
For example, Valor increases Attack. Slotting in additional Valor levels increases the bonus and also grants Defense Penetration after a certain threshold.
Gameplay
Matchmaking: Solo vs Trio
When embarking on an expedition, you'll be given the option to play Solo or in Trios.
In Solo Mode, all players will be on their own. This game mode is inherently chaotic, as fights can turn from a 1v1 into a free-for-all. You'll need to keep an eye on your surroundings at all times and watch out for players who might be lurking to catch you off guard.
Trio Mode features teams of three matched against each other. By default, the game will fill the remaining slots in your team. This game mode rewards coordinated play and team building. Teams who bring loadouts that synergize with each other and communicate in fights are sure to come out on top.
Maps and Events
On launch, Mistfall Hunter has two main maps:
Hallowgrove is the starting map. It features forest ruins, battle encampments, and small fortress ruins. It is noted as Normal Difficulty, and you must be equipped with gear of rank Excellent or lower to access it.
Brandrgarde is the harder map. It unlocks when reaching Level 5, and is built on a fortress with walls, keeps, and hidden passages. You can bring higher-ranking gear to this map compared to Hallowgrove.
Each map features Events, such as the Chaos Hallowgrove and the Cataclysm Brandrgarde. When active, these Events tune up the difficulty of the Maps, making monsters stronger and more numerous, but also increasing loot value.
Enemies and Bosses
When embarking on an expedition, you will face other human players as well as monsters and bosses. In most cases, it is generally best to focus on clearing monster camps and finishing the run by fighting a boss.
There are various Boss Tiers:
Mist Lords are the most powerful bosses you'll find on expeditions. They are found in the deepest areas of each map and protect the most valuable equipment in the game. Defeating a Mist Lord requires bringing top-tier gear tailored to the fight and team coordination.
Underlords are powerful monsters that occupy designated areas, marked by red areas on the map. They are tough fights that should not be taken early on.
Elite Mini-Bosses populate High Loot Areas across maps, and players must defeat them to access the loot around them.
Points of Interest
When on an expedition, you will see that each map has various markers that show places of interest:
Yellow Areas show zones with Enhanced Loot, often having a Mini-Boss inside that players must defeat to access Treasure (Chests).
Red Icons are Major Boss locations, including Underlords and Mist Lords.
Blue Exclamation Marks denote Tasks, side-missions that reward loot.
Cyan markers show Extraction Points where you'll be able to come back to the main hub.
Players should check the map constantly as it updates periodically with new Loot and Boss locations. Likewise, they should head for marked areas like Enhanced Loot Zones.
Gyldenmist and Extraction
The Gyldenmist acts as the game's Storm mechanic, which encloses it over time and will damage players until they die. It eventually forces players to find an Extraction Point and head back to the main camp. Each map handles Gyldenmist differently: The Hallowgrove will be engulfed by Gyldenmist after a time, whereas in Brandrgarde, the Storm closes in gradually.
Beginner Tips and Tricks
Always prepare before an expedition
Heading out unprepared means you will be an easy prey to other players. Always check your Inventory, Gear, Skills, and Talents. You should bring strong equipment and items to make your life easier out there.
Follow a farming route, move efficiently
When entering an expedition, you should look at the map and plan a PvE farming route to maximize loot obtained. The less time you spend on the map, the less likely you are to die to other players. Veteran players will be acquainted with the best farming routes and follow them consistently.
Don't fight fair; you can run away
A PvP fight can go south in an instant, especially if there are multiple players and monsters involved. In most cases, it is not worth it to risk losing your gear and loot for a chance to take out an enemy player. Nothing is stopping you from running away from a fight at any time and coming back later.
You should actively look for terrain advantages when fighting other players, like elevated terrain and enclosed spaces that you can use to take the upper hand.
Don't hoard Consumables
Items like Potions, Throwing Knives, and Bombs should be used often. They don't hold much Gold value, and they will be lost if you die anyway.
The Springhorn is a Healing Item that replenishes each time you embark on an expedition, so don't be scared to use it.
Track your Energy Bar
Some actions, like Skills and Dodging, consume Energy. Running low on Energy means you will be at a disadvantage in fights, so don't abuse Dodges or other actions that consume Energy.
