With more emphasis on combat systems, the bosses will be more complex than the ones you'd find in Stardew, and more towards the likes of indies such as Core Keeper and Terarria.
In this guide, we will go over the first boss- the Spider Matriarch, whom you will face within the first hour of gameplay.
The Spider Matriarch is the first major boss in Emberville. She is a spider who has multiple deadly attacks. She can shoot webs and entomb you; she has small spiderlings that hurt; and she can charge and attack you from afar.
She is very strong, with 800 health, and she can regenerate health by visiting one of the baby sacs plotted around the area.
Before heading into the boss battle, you will see a campfire. You must use some of the items you’ve collected so far and cook them. For instance, Roasted Meat can give you 30 health, which will help a lot in the boss battle.
You should cook as much as you can before going into the battle, so you do not die when facing her. Make sure you put all the consumables you want to use- mushrooms, carrots, tomatoes, meat or potions on your bar so you can easily press F1 or F2 to consume them!
I also recommend starting the Bow before heading in so you don't have to switch. The range allows you to deal damage from afar! But you can start with a sword as well.
As soon as you run in, kite around the small Spiders and kill them first. Then kill all the Spider sacs in the area. Destroying them is a must, as she can use them to fully regenerate all her missing health.
There are LOTS of these around the area. Make sure you destroy them ALL before trying to fight her.
Run around, kite, and destroy them all before turning to the Spider Matriarch. Then keep kiting her (switch to a sword if you haven’t already). Look at all the swords you have and choose one of the strongest one. I used the Ordinary Rustic Copper Sword, but you can beat it with any sword.
Keep an eye on your health at all times, and when you’re in melee range of her, keep spamming right-click and pressing F1 and F2 to keep your health topped up. You must do this to stay alive in a fight.
It’s really down to trial and error and keeping your spacing/kiting away from her ranged attacks. Beating her will allow you to progress through the game!
Beating the boss requires some patience, so don’t worry if you don’t beat her the first time. We hope that this guide will make it easier for you to beat her in the future!
